Palooka was the best fight in that game. Best level, too.

Nah, I disliked the level and hated the boss fight. I can't remember them all off the top of my head but the Grubb graveyard sticks in my mind as being particularly atmospheric.

I'm going to have to nominate every boss and sub-boss fight from Earthworm Jim 1&2.
The Villi People level actually made me go into crying fits. I was like, Seven or Eight year old, too. Something about Moonlight Sonata and BEING IN A FUCKING INTESTINE didn't sit well.
:
Every Legion boss fight in the Castlevania series.
Without a doubt, Though Portrait of Ruin had a really easy way to kill him that gimped the fight.

EDIT: Palooka had an excellent level, but the fight itself got tiring. Fatty McBoomboom probably had the best level in the game.

God I miss the atmosphere of Oddworld forest levels. Nothing ever compares.

Rock Monster from Mega Man 1. Impossible to beat without using the Elecman cheat.
it's called the yellow devil and I think its made of goo.

some of my favourite boss battles are: that big shadow guy in the PS1/PC remake of space invaders, comrade blacks giant robot suit in de blob (simply because they made it work so well in a game where you paint buildings) and dark gaia from sonic unleashed. (especialy because of the music in the super sonic part)

and I don't see how some of you had so much trouble with the croc bosses. I could beat them when I was 3 or 4. it's still a great game though.

It's only called the yellow devil in the japanese version and if you didn't know, I am not fucking japanese. I played the game when it came out and as such I will use the name it had when I played it. Also, it was not goo. Some of the later games had iterations of the "yellow devil" that were made of goo. Not this one.

Dagoth Ur is simple and unfun if you kill all the other vampires and use their armor. Then it's just the basic 'I stand in your face and slash slash slash block slash'. I got pissed when all I got for beating the game was a ring that gave me 2 charisma.

Oh, and I'd say my favorite non-RPG boss would be Sigma at the end of Mega Man X. He's damn tough.
Nah. I purposefully only killed a few of the vampires. Shit was hard as hell.

Plus, it's the thought that counts. I guess the fight wasn't too epic, but everyone calling you Nerevarine and the ordinators sucking your balls was pretty cool.

No, the graveyard would have been better were it the way we saw in the opening FMV. I lived the Junkyard because it was one of the few levels where both stealth and all-action tactics were viable the whole way through, and figuring out how to force Palooka off the platform and keep him on the ground for capturing was a joy.

The junkyard was fun for awhile, until it got long enough and tough enough that I decided to abandon capturing or killing all the outlaws. Then I would just haul balls between tall grass columns until I got to Packrat. Eventually I make it, even if it took a couple of deaths and changed running routes.

I always wanted to contribute to this thread but couldn't decide which boss to pick.

I'm going to go with Psycho Mantis, but there were plenty of amazing bosses in MGS4, none of them were as groundbreaking as Mantis but that's kind of hard, traditional gaming has pretty much been pushed as far as it can go. Motion-sensitive controllers are the new frontier.

Not a very difficult thing to do, mind you. Give me five minutes and I'll make a game with ridiculously overpowered bosses who have far too much health and a weakling hero who suffers one-hit deaths and a complete inability to dodge. Then we'll see if you can beat that.

I could beat that with my penis tying one hand behind my back.

My motivation would be that it's not my fapping hand, thus, I must win.

The mosquito fight in Rayman is an example of a classic boss battle.
I like the Metal Gear Solid bosses, particularly Ocelot.
All of the bosses in MGS3 were pretty good I think, except The Fear, who was very annoying.
