Wow that question is deeper then any of my questions I ask. Well from what we saw in all three games I would have to say yes. Maybe Lorn Lanning wants his world to have sauls. Most likely! It is amazing how some person in this world can think up something like Oddworld. It makes you wounder what is going on in Lannings head. I can relate sometimes.

yes, remember: when you possess a creature then kill it somehow, those little glowing things are going out of it. I think if a creature does that, it has a soul. But at Fleeches and Slurgs...
I don't think soo.

I'm happy that Abe can "reborn" when he dies. Imagine if he doesn't. Making AO with one life. "You die, you restart."

I think fleeches and slurgs have souls

Well the creatures have to have sauls. Look at the Shrykull. That is half Paramite and half Scrab. They are definetly spiretual creatures.

Well all of Oddworlds creatures have some type of 'soul'. Wheather it be Muds, to plantlife or even insects. Oddworld is a world full of souls and essence. Its like this, the more complex the lifeform is the more complex the soul is. If say.... a Mud dies then it can be reincarnated because it has a complex soul and was very intouch with nature, but a plant is not that complex and had an even bigger bond with nature which leaves its fate to be decided by prehaps a higher force?... Glukkons on the other hand are different. They cannot be reincarnated sience they did not share a natural bond with nature, and you get the rest.

Happy Souls and Spooce

Here is an old thread I did about spooce. I believe all things on oddworld are connected with the spooce but I only believe that the sentient creatures actually have souls.

Thats a really good theory, Khan. Maybe someone from OWI will surf through here and notice it, mention it to Lorne, and it may get included in the next game. You never know.

Well, I'm not an offical Encyclopedia, so don't listen to me!

And I mean, those creatures like slogs and slurgs have a soul, but a "primitive" one. You know, you can't possess them.

Abe can possess Slogs.

Like Khan, I would think that the sentient creatures on Oddworld have a soul, even Glukkons.

When we move down to creatures like Slurgs and Fleeches, I think that they are capable of thought - probably not very entralling though, since they're creatures of id - but a soul is something much deeper, and needs a complex mind to carry the weight. [/metaphor]

I didnt know that was a Tag, Max.

Anyway, there are some things Abe has possessed in the past which dont have souls, so I dont think possession is really based on the having of a soul, more on the possessers choice. Who would want to possess a Slurg or a Fleech anyway? I imagine it would be quite uncomfortable for Abe, and probably difficult to control too as they arent the smartest creatures on Oddworld. In most cases, the primitive mind can overcome the dominant/intelligent mind. Has anyone ever seen Animorphs or read the books?

Since Oddworld itself covers some spiritual areas, it would only make sense that the creatures of Oddworld have souls.

Even looking at something as simple as the Mudokons who are resurrected in Munch's Oddysee. In order to resurrect them you need spooce. Well spooce is a spiritual currency. So the spooce would need to interact with something that is already there in order to bring the Mudokon back to life. Therefore it would make sense that it would bring the Mudokon back based on his soul. If his soul is there, he has the capacity to come back again.

I also think that the intelligent creatures (Mudokons, Glukkons, etc ... not sure about the wildlife creatures) go through multiple lives and their soul comes back as a new Mudokon based on their last lifetime (I'm still not sure if you would consider the above example as a lifetime, or it is simply giving a Mudokon another chance at this lifetime). In these lifetimes, the soul may be given to different situations and even species (i.e. a Glukkon in one lifetime, and a Mudokon in the next) depending on what lessons they need to learn.

We also know that Mudokon status is based on their spirituality, therefore a Mudokon who's soul has evolved less will only be able to become a lower status, while the Shamans are the ones who have lived many, many lifetimes in order to get to where they currently are. And because Sligs and Glukkons are very materialistic in nature (i.e. care about moolah), this is a sign of a lower evolved soul. Therefore with how these species are at current (not in the past), they would also have souls that are lower evolved.

Abe Babe...

Nicely noticed. It does beg the question of how Resurrection Totems bring the body of the Mudokon back, though. We know that when a creature of Oddworld dies its body disintergrates/fades away, so for the Resurrection Totem to bring back the body, it implies that there is another plane to which dead material goes.

However, this brings up two difficulties:
1) This disobeys the theory of conservative matter. No prob, we simply take it for granted that this law of physics just doesn't exist in the Oddworld realm.
2) If that is so, how have Mudokons managed to retain the bodies of Mudokons as seen in Necrum?
