Hopes For Me

i was just wondering what everyones hopes are for me...
for me they are:

1-more complex storyline ( mo was a little simplistic)

2-eerier and sadder

3- more mysticism

4- less humour (seriously)

5- more lab animals

Ya know, this seems really similar to my thread about what we want in future games. At first I was going to bash ya but now I will thank you. With two similar threads I will be able to see even more opinions.
I personally would like...

1) Better AI (this would include bringing back emotion)

2) More detailed backgrounds (the MO ones were dull, fog should be banned... in AO and AE the background looked like it actually went somewhere)

3) More statuses and weapons (especially for sligs)

4) New creatures and more of the good old ones (I want a creature that slightly resembles a platypus... don't ask)

5) Bring back old stuff (old teleporters, fart possesion, Bigface, etc...)

yeah i agree more statuses and bring back gamespeak and emotion!

also i hope me fouceses more on munch then abe. mo was like abe's oddysee with munch thrown in.

That's definitely what I don't want to see happening. The humour in Oddworld has always been excellent, from the satrical consumer products to the hilareous personality of the Vykkers. OWI were pushing it a bit in MO - "Hey! Fart breath!" being a perfect example of the worse of the lameness - but Oddworld wouldn't be Oddworld if it serious.

And I'm not entirely sure I'd like to see the return of everything - bats, the Big Face, RuptureFarms. The story has to move on, and you all saw what happened when Scrabs and Paramites were dragged into MO. Only where some new formulas are actually bad do I want anything to go back e.g. teleporters.

However, if I had to choose one thing I wanted Oddworld to have it would be a much better possession/gamespeak element in the game, which I spoke of in Khan's topic in General Discussion.

1. I would like to see more or less, a way to actually make the game harder. In each level in MO as Abe, even if you sucked, you could possess most people at some point or another. You could just clear everything out with ease. And whenever you had to actualy do some fighting, it was rather lame and if you didn't suceed, why try try again by reviving your muds by regrowing large numbers or spooce for hours.

2. Also, better use of the enviroment. The levels in MO were like flat, it just wasn't well, natural. More or less the land was flat, with a hill for something special or a gate too divide areas. Not to mention different enviroments. I had the feeling all the factories were the same (except Splinters) and all the outside areas just different layouts. No forests, noo huge buildings and factories, no desert places, no rocky cliff layouts (that excludes drops into an endless pit of fog!), no city-like areas, and anyways the enviroments weren't very realistic. They wwwere just kinda specificly made so you could make either Munch or Abe only go somewhere, and let the other through. In the drain the lake area, whatever it was called, there were steps to the gluk stupid mini offices. Fences divided the edges pointlessly. And wells were just all over and it seemed kind of stupid. I want shadows, big trees, and a realistic layout. And the factories seemed to not even have a point for anything. nothing really ever went on.

3. AI was horrible. I would like to see personality, like a really stupid slig or a smart intern or soemthing. And ranks and specialties for carious enemies. I mean, they see a possessed guy blow away half the security force, then runs around a corner and they lose sight of him. Then they just forget that the're friends just got slaughtered. And they don't investigate sounds, they don't really work together, they don't really do much of anything but die.

4. Um, better character relations. Or, Gamespeak. Or just better interacting. I don't know, just something cool.

5. How about just some originality, darkness, something clever that once again sets it apart. To make it cool. I think it has potential still, just if ME goes down then its lost. They got the time, lets see if they use it.

I agree with lantra, except the less humor. Humor is what makes me like oddworld games (as well as rich gameplay and glukkons).

I,d like to see lots and lots of glukkons!

I want to see the power rings come back like the Shrykull, that red ring you had in AO that blew everything up in it's path, and the Mudokin healing ring that heals Mudokins when they were sick from Saul Storm Brew. And maybe new rings for Abe to get.

I also want the Big Face to return and I want the humor from AE to be back like when you farted next to a Mudokin he went phew or he hit you back when he was angry. Emotions I want back with bran new emotion to go along with the old ones.

I want to be abel to possess my fart or possess Munch's Burp.
I want the game speak seem like actual conversation where you can say just about anything. I would like to here Abe say "hello" again like he did in AO or say "Idunno." And I want to be abel to say "follow me" again. I want the Mudokins to have pony tails and I want sligs to be abel to make commands to slogs or other sligs.

Just imagine sligs with Halo calibur A.I. Just imagine... *Drooling*

I would also like to see just one gigantic environment for the whole game. Much like the one on the main backround screen seen on the MO website.

Some better graphics obviously, pixel shadded grass, no fog or a lot less, weather effects, better poly counts, etc.

Darker, more sadistic.

Heres another thing I want to see. I want to see the enviorment we saw in the original quick time films that were out for MO. Like the scrabs running through the field so realistically and the windmills to be massive and the paramite herd at night. I want Mudokins to have spears and I want that same music we heard from those quick time films espicially the scrab heard. It has an Oddworld pride sound to it you know? I would want to see vending bombs too. All of that stuff would of been incredible for MO but it wasant there so Hopes for ME. And since they arent saying anything I am very excited! It makes you wounder you know?

Better camera:

  • Less intrusive. I don't want the camera to change position half way down a ladder.
  • More camera controls. I want to be able to look through Abe or Munch's eyes, like in Spyro. It's really annoying when a bit of scenery is in the way of the camera so I can't see what's in front of me.


Better graphics:

  • Longer draw distance. Halo: no draw distance, MO: 10 metre draw distance. People have shot Covenant from several thousand metres with the sniper rifle. Mudokons can't see sligs more then five meters away.


Better collision detection and AI:

  • Don't walk into that door frame, mudokon! Yes there is something to do, you idiot!
  • On the very first level I noticed part of Abe vanish inside a wall. Where'd his arm go?
  • I'm standing five metres behind a slig and then I say 'kick some booty' to my mudokon cohort and the slig doesn't notice me until his low-poly booty is being kicked by a stupid mudokon. Sligs can hear you in AO/AE, did their hearing aids break?


Better gameplay:

  • The gameplay could easily be improved by including most of the things in the old demos.

Those are all very good ideas, everyone. I think that they should bring back Mud emotions, and make more complicated emotions for every creature. For example, you are in a slig barrack-type place. There's a Big Bro guarding the door to the next area. But to the left of you, you hear a slig crying. You go over and comfort him, and he becomes your friend. He takes you over to a slog hut with many, many sleeping slogs. You have to wake them up gently, not by harming them or yelling at them. At once they run at you, but the slig says, "Here boys!" And you take your gang to the Big Bro and beat him up. Of course, I want complicated emotions for ALL of the creatures, not just one species. That just wouldn't make sense.

Edit: I would also like to see drunk Interns or something. You could lead him to a Grinder thing or a cliff and he would just stagger off.
