Sad Selma is Missing: Presumed Murdered

Possible scenario:

Basking in the morning sun, Selma was happily frolicking in the garden as she pecked and scratched at the loose soil, hoping to find a delicious snack. She was enjoying herself, oblivious to the eyes in the bushes behind her, watching her every move.

Selma was delighted as she uprooted a succulent bulb and was about to enjoy its earthy flavour when something leapt on her from behind. Sharp claws pierced through her feathers, into her flesh. She cackled in pain, hoping someone would hear her screams. Feathers flying everywhere, Selma struggled to free herself from the beast's powerful grip. Blood trickled down her sleek coat of feathers while she screamed louder. Straining to move her head, the beast's sharp teeth clamped down on her neck, puncturing her skin. Her eyes wide with fear, panic and confusion, Selma eventually lost consciousness as the creature continued to disfigure her body.

Fifteen minutes later, the big, ginger cat licked its paws and purred.

We haven't seen our pet hen, Selma, for five days.

I didn't know you were talking about a chicken. I thought you were talking about some bird lady . Do you think she is dead, Sydney?

Christ, I hope she's alright. I know what it's like to lose a pet (in both senses of the word), and it's a harsh experience for everybody involved.

Have you called the local councils? Some districts have ranger services that can help you track down lost animals. I'm not familiar with many NSW facilities, so I don't know if they've got the Victorian equivalents.

Good luck, anyway.

I'm sorry to hear of your loss, Sydney.
I really don't think a cat could have got her, though; very few cats have nerve enough to tackle a fully-grown chicken. Mrs. Chicken (my mum's pet hen who lives in our garden) is only a bantam, and she beats the stuffing out of all the neighbourhood cats, many of which are at least three times her size.

Is Selma your only chicken? If so, she'll be the dominant one and will have big spurs, which make an effective weapon.

Question

Sid, have you actually found any feathers of your missing chicken? If not, it looks like it may have ran away or possibly stolen ( Yes there are people out there that do steal chicken's). But if you have found feathers the chances of her being slaughtered are fairly high. Do you live on a farm Sid?

Thanks for the concern.

Selma was a bantam hen, she was quite small and timid. And she wasn't the dominant chicken; we once had two hens, but the other one died of old age. The other chicken was definately boss, often demanding Selma hand over the snails that she found in the garden, to which Selma reluctantly agreed.

A huge ginger cat had been loitering around in our gardens over the past few weeks, that's why we think she was killed by a cat.

Surfacing, Selma would never run away, she loved us. We don't live on a farm, we live in the suburbs of Sydney.

How amusing, the way Sydney describes and talks about her he makes her seem like a actual person. It has been known that in Sydney there is a few people who would like to "own" a Chicken for some...well...procarious reasons *Raises eyebrow*. Also, there are sposedly Aliens around Sydney (The place) that actually kidnap Chickens, beat them, suck their blood and then leave them dead somewhere. So look around for a deaded Chicken. Also, somebody could of snatched her to use in a Cock fight and to get the Cockerals fighting each other.

You know a cock is a male chicken not a female one, Sid said he had lost a female chicken, so i doubt she could be used for cock fighting.

Shush. How do you think they get Cocks to fight? They put a female Chicken in the ring for a brief moment so that the Cocks fight over her.

Chris, I'm just laughing at you now... At first I thought this was going to be a news sotry. Then I thought it was joke. Then I realized it was real and like a bird had been slaughtered or something. Then I thought it was a joke again. Then I read that this is what might have happened, it was Sydneys per chicken, and that Sydney loved his chicken. I feel sorry for you Sydney, but I used to have pets die every other year. Shame theres no egg like in Charolettes Web or something so you get another chicken...
