Oddworld Fan Game: Downloadable ENGINE (Concept)

O V E R V I E W:

This fan game I made is basically an engine test, i was relucatant to uploading it because I was afraid of being spammed with butthurt messages about it for no reason, but I'm doing it anyway, as I have sunk several hours into this game, and im going to try to make it a multiplayer game just for my experience sake.

This game is trying to be an 'Oddworld RP' the main things i've really coded are the food system and the health system. I ripped models from games to import them, on top of that, the game is also HEAVILY unfinished, the story isn't established and neither is the general idea. This is mostly the engine.

So, please tell me what you think. Give me honest feedback, i don't want lies, and i don't want rape comments in all-caps saying it sux :\

GIVE BOLAMITE - spawns a paramite by Abe.
GIVE SODA - Abe gets a free soda to drink and throw.
GIVE RAMEN - My favourite, gives abe some noodles to eat or throw at people.
GIVE DOSH - Gives you money
GIVE FOOTRAPE - Gives you a Footrape max. Right click to set it out.
KILL - Kills abe

Honestly those sprites need a lot of work, I mean really from those screenies it doesn't seem worth downloading because of the textures and characters. Also what is the game about? Buying and eating food?

Try reading the thread, then you'll realise that the only thing i have coded so far is the

"FOOD AND HEALTH SYSTEM" with some "ENEMIES"

Edit: and that its an engine test >_>

Why the crap would you post a download to something not playable then? Doesn't make much sense, and it doesn't lessen the point you need to work on the graphics.

I gave you feedback...you haven't given any where near enough information or playable game for anyone to have any feedback other than it looks pre alpha.

lol.. :/... i think the first step to getting this thread back on track is for you, luke, to give an explanation of the game (what it's about, what the objectives are).

Fucking hell guys, read the fucking OP. He's asking for opinions on the engine that he's made. The graphics are clearly placeholders and there's no story or objectives yet; it's a fucking engine.

If the engine sucks say so, but don't go on about the content sucking when he fucking stated with perfect clarity that that wasn't what he was asking about.

True. I, however, get the idea that they're asking what the gameplay is about, you would, if you were half sane, build the engine with the game in mind.

I actually do live on these forums, I don't have anything against you either, hell I don't even remember you from a few months back I thought you had just joined or something. I just don't understand why you would post such a simple game mechanic, I would expect you would release something a little more substantial is all, you said that this will amount to and Oddworld RPG, well if it does then I wish you all the best in the future. But there's only one Oddworld game I know that is still being worked on all the others I've ever seen have collapsed within a year.

Yes because the OP's game is too simple. Obviously the OP should overstretch himself, that way his game will definitely succeed

Ughhh.. if the OP says they've made an engine with a health and enemies system, they must have an idea for what the game will be like, even if it's a very vague idea. But all they've said so far is that it's going to be a role playing game. Just a slight elaboration on that would be great... hm? lol -_- and I wish ppl would learn to have some effing respect. Seriously...

Honestly, Luke, I don't think I can give you any feedback on the engine. Yeah, a game's engine is its backbone and it's imperative that it works, but it either works or it doesn't and it seems to me that the simplicity of this engine lends itself to a one-man-team of debuggers; you. There's no point in us testing the engine for bugs and there's nothing anyone can lend you opinion-wise so there are no helpful words we can offer you until you begin developing the game itself.

First post on-topic btw. :P

I wish you every success with the game you plan on building upon this engine. Unfortunately, I must agree that it's incredibly rare for projects to get even close to completion here, but much luck nonetheless.

Oh, advice: Consider leaving this thread be and come back when you have some developed parts of a game to show off. You'll probably find that'll reward you with a warmer reception than the previous derailing and confusion.
