5 best games (Or, in my case, 3)

You can do your 3 best games or 5 best games, but I did 3.

Mine are...

1. Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2)
This game has everything... Unlimited replay value, gangsters, deep gameplay, great music, awesome level design, amazing depth, hookers, having sex with hookers to regain health, picking up hookers for a couple missions, beating up hookers... Words can't describe how AWESOME this game is. When you own it, you feel like you don't need anything else. I have played through 21 hours and 15 minutes of the game, according to the in-game timer... TWENTY-ONE hours... And I am 14 percent finished with it. No ps2 owner should be without this game. In fact, nobody should be without this game. Go buy yourself a ps2 and Grand Theft Auto 3, and you'll be a happy camper.

2. Starcraft (PC)
If you don't already know what Starcraft is, then you don't deserve to know. Either that, or I don't feel like writing a description of the game.

3. Twisted Metal: Black (PS2)
Dark, twisted, story lines, awesome, fast gameplay, and insanely fun multiplayer make this one of my all-time favorite games.

In ascending order:

5) Music 2000 (PSX/PC)
This is a music creation game. Well, I say game, but it's more like a piece of activity software. It's so user-friendly and there are so many things you can do with it. There are so many levels of options that it appeals to both hardcore EJs and casual novices. It really lets my creative streaks shine through.

4) AO & AE (PSX/PC (duh) )
Yes, I know it's cheating putting two in the same slot, but I can't decide which one I like better. I shouldn't have to describe these two games...

3) WipEout (PSX/PC?)
The original, but not quite the best, futuristic racing game. This game is a landmark and a little piece of PlayStation history. Gaming was perceived as geeky, childish and insular until the club culture of WipEout slammed its way onto Sony's little grey machine. This game rocked the gaming world when it was first released, and people were really impressed by the graphics, even though by today's standards they look like vomit on a vinyl jacket.
To the graphics' credit, though, WipEout's intro sequence is the best I have ever seen for any PSX game, not just in image quality but in content and the way it induces a big adrenalin rush.

2) Spyro 2 (PSX)
This is the best of the three current Spyros. Spyro 3 is basically just a remake of its predecessor, and it lacks so many of the cool new features that Spyro 2 had; the difficulty rating that each puzzle had (so you could decide if you were ready to undertake it or not) and the inclusion of primary, secondary and tertiary tasks. 2 was so radically and wonderfully different from the original, and 3 rather disappointed by its similarity, instead of delivering anything new.

Drum roll, please, for my favourite game of all time...

1) WipEout 2097 (PSX)
This is the game that the first WipEout should have been. This game is a pyschedelic stew of lush visuals of electric blue and shocking yellow... from urban cities to parrot-filled jungles, from icy wastes to volcanic islands, all mixed with Prodigy songs, cans of Red Bull and ships streaking faster than the blurry smears of hurled paint. It really does feel as though your mind is being unleashed. 2097 promises, and delivers, pure euphoria. I love it to bits, and the only game that could possibly beat it is WipEout Fusion.

And that's exactly what's happened. This month's OPS2M came with a playable demo of Fusion, and it is beyond excellent. I really don't know where to begin... I'll start with the graphics:

The graphics are, quite simply, gorgeous. There is no pop-up whatsoever, and the animated billboards display their advertisements slickly and seamlessly. The background is every bit as detailed as the foreground, and there's no fog or mist or anything which is often used to hide shoddy graphics. The sky actually looks real! The backdrops are fully 3-D, not just 2-D skins draped behind the action, and they are packed full of skyscrapers, giant satellite dishes, more billboards and everything you'd expect to find in a city in the year 2160.

But even if the graphics were as poor as the first WipEout, I'd still adore this game, because this game is speed personified. The demo features Zone Mode instead of a race, in which you control a ship on permanent accelerate, with no means of slowing down. Every 10 seconds the ship gets faster, until you get to Zone 30. But you lose shield ebergy every time you hit something, and the object is to get as far as possible before your shield is worn away to nothing and your ship explodes. I've managed to reach Zone 24, with two perfect laps! *is smug* Points are awarded for how far you go, how many perfect laps you get and how many speed boosts you hit. Getting a big score rewards you with a code you can enter on the official site. I entered my score, and I'm 29th in the International League! There are only 28 individuals worldwide who are better than me at WipEout... not bad, eh?

Even when the ship is hammering away at over 1500 kph, there's no graphical slowdown of any sort. The demo circuit has an off-road area where you can create whirling duststorms, and presumably, in normal race mode, smash up all the boulders with weapons. I also noticed that some of the forks in the track were blocked off with electric barriers... I can't wait to get the full game and unlock those extra routes!

If you have a PS2 or are getting one soon, buy this month's issue of OPS2M! (not to be confused with PSM2 , which is pants)
The demo is on both the UK and US editions of the mag. As I stated in my Fusion topic, a PS2 without this game is like a gun without ammo.

Do check out the official site ( http://www.wipeoutfusion.com ). It's stuffed to the gills with very cool downloads and information (my personal favourite being that 92% of Anti-Gravity pilots cannot pee if a scientist is watching them!), and it provides a backstory of what happened in previous WipEouts (some of which is quite funny). When the game is released (December), you'll be able to order it and other merchandise on the official site as well.

Yikes, so many games I hate in the same thread Well I don't suppose anyone will like mine either (except perhaps Myst), but here they are...

5. Zork: Grand Inquisitor
-This game has great puzzles, and the humor in it is hillarious! If you buy the strategy guide along with it (after finishing playing it - mind you! No cheating ) it makes you feel for the character's plight even more.

4. The 11th Hour/The 7th Guest
-I feel that if I tryed to describe these games I would spoil them for whoever hasn't played them. Let me just say that the storylines and characters are CREEPY, and the puzzles challenging.

3. Myst/Riven
-The storylines are obscure, but once you begin to understand them these games really sweep you up in the Ages of Myst (and Riven). I also want to say - Myst 3: Exile is TERRIBLE! It doesn't live up to the other two at all, the puzzles are tedious and the interface irritating although the storyline is quite interesting.

2. Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers
-Very realistic game with fascinating characters and original inventory-based puzzles. The plot will keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end, and the cutscenes are moving.

And the 1. best game(s) of all time...

1. Gabriel Knight: The Beast Within & Gabriel Knight: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned
-Both these games reduced me to tears at the end. The storylines build up to a huge climax, and the mystery that the main characters are trying to solve is intriguing and has many loose ends which are not cleared up until the very end. These are two games where you feel FANTASTIC when you manage to solve a puzzle, because it nearly always rewards you by revealing another segment of the mystery. The storylines intertwine real history and religion with fantasy, making them all the more believable. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Looks like Abe didn't make it onto my list Oh well, it's still a great game

1. Rayman
An old 2D platformer.. but still great! Fantastic graphics and, I wish I could listen to the music again... (for some reason, it doesn't work anymore. Not even on a Pentium 4 with Geforce 3!!!!! I even bought the game again, in case the CD was stuck or something, but still, it doesn't work. )

2. Rayman 2
After months of waiting, looking in stores, searching the internet, getting irritated by not finding it in stores the day it had to be released (another delay...) it finally came out. And it was it worth to wait for it! In the beginning a little strange, because of the new world and characters, but I got used to it. It's nearly as good as Rayman 1.

3. Dizzy Fastfood
WHAAAAAAAAAT? An old Atari pacman style game in a 2001 top 5? On the THIRD place? Yes that is possible. You can download it from this site. (NOTE: You better turn the game music off and download the CPU slowdown program, otherwise it will crash/be too fast.) A fansite:click here!

4. Evil Twin
Yet another platformgame. And a very good one. The gameplay and graphics are amazing, and the game universe and storyline are dark and original. If you are searching for a platformgame WITHOUT a kiddy theme, it should be this one.

5. Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus
Do I really have to explain about this one? And have I told you I love platformgames? Oh, you already understood that.....

Huh? I thought it was just as good as the other ones. I admit, the "Look-around" view was kinda annoying, but I didn't think the puzzles were anymore tedious than before. Diff'rent strokes for diff'rent folks, I guess.

But, Myst III's ending was the most rewarding experience in a game I've ever had. Seeing Saveedro(sp.) solemly waving to you and returning to his ppl made feel so happy.
