What types of games do you generally prefer?

Ok, I mean genre-wise, but with wiggle-room. Don't say "action" or "strategy".
And you'll probably provide more than one genre unless your a fanatic douche nozzle. Anyway, I would appreciate if you then gave an example and say why you like that game or what not. I'll start.

I love system shock. (Think Bioshock with more RPG and less mind raping philosophy speak. (which I enjoyed)) System Shock was both a great RPG, and a great FPS. This combination was a true beauty.

I love first person games, but first person shooters have to be good to tide my attention. I really love sandbox ish games, the kind where you have a big enviroment to do whatever you want in, ala Mass effect/Morrowind/Fable/Spore/etc theres more

I also love games that never end. Harvest Moon

I like most games Yahtzee hates. IE: JRPGs and MMORPGers.

Also like point and click adventure games, some platformers and a very small amount of FPSs.

FPS is my most loved genre followed by RPG but it has to be a really good one to appeal to me (NOT WOW).

Definintely Platformers and FPSs. I enjoy some RPGs, and quite a few puzzle games.

Action, depth (immersion, good story, good characters, etc.) is for me.
Basically anything fun with a nice story and holy shit moments.

This is so vague though that I like most games, including: Halo (series), Fable, COD 4, anything bioware touches, the witcher, OW games, GTA IV, bully, Bioshock, etc.

In case you don't get it, RPG's --> Action

RTS' bore me, I play games to feed/ chill out my brain, not to use it, so I fail at puzzles (Unless I get them, then they win- i.e. AO and most of Braid), I love sports, but only when playing it, but only when playing with others i.e. in real life, so tv sports, sports magazines, and yes, even sports games, expecially racing games (altough if there was some kind of dogfighting game, racing elements, hmmm, I'm sure it's been done, but not to my imagination, I'd probably look into it), JRPG's and traditional RPG's bore the shit out of me, even their story can't save them.

But then again, if it's like crack i.e Puzzlequest, Viva pinata, pokemon, they I love it.

Japanese RPGs. Fighting games. Scrolling shooters.

Though I'm more concerned about the game than the genre.

Hmmm...

Lots of 3rd person shooters/ action games ( Hitman, Max Payne, Gears Of War )

Killer7 and No More heroes ( Both Suda51 games)

Introversion games ( Uplink, Darwinia, DEFCON and Multiwinia)

I'd play RPGs if they are interesting or different enough ( Like Fable, Vampire Bloodlines: The Masquerade and Planescape: Torment)

I enjoy a good platformer. For instance, PSYCHONAUTS! Best game ever.

Platformers have always been my forté, especially as a kid, but there have been so few good platformers in recent times that I've gravitated away from them into FPSes, and "gateway" shooter-platformers like Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank didn't help. I still don't get many, though, I restrict myself to the cream of the crop, ie Halo, Half-Life, Bioshock and Gears, but avoid "historical" shooters.

I love a good story, so one that grabs me goes down very well. Unfortunately, though, I'm not a huge fan of traditional RPGs, particularly those with turn-based battles, but I'm getting more and more into them. KOTOR and Mass Effect are notable exceptions, and I'm having a bash at Elder Scrolls. Fable, too, they all have something in common: mega customisation. I can really feel that I own the game as I cut my own swathe through the plot. I avoid playing Final Fantasy even though I enjoy watching my younger brother play it.

2D platformers will always have a special place in my heart, being the first games I remember playing (back when I was astonished by the idea of a video-like device that turned a TV screen into a toy. Strangely, I did not associate this with games on computers). Obviously Oddworld features heavily in that story, along with the recent Braid and the upcoming, should a fortunate windfall supply me with a PS3, LittleBigPlanet.

Customisation and shooting combos are also a fave, though the only example I have been able to play is the now-ancient Armored Core 2, which changed my life by helping to establish two very important friendships in my life 6/7 years ago.

Essentially, I like immersion, customisation and control, excellent story that I can actively affect, giant worlds to explore, and if applicable, an engaging cause to which I can apply myself, such as a great evil to overthrow or kingdom to crush. Morality choices are a must (and I'm sure we'd all like to see choices/consequences that have more than one dimension, true good to true evil).

The most awesome bonus are multiplayer options where my character can battle a friend's, or team up in the story. Fable 2 is most promising in this aspect, though I wish our dogs could meet and play.

Whoops, I'm going into essay mode. I'm going to cut it short there.

Typically, it's been either RTS or RPG for me. What I really love in a game, though, is a good plotline, great characters, and a vast and interesting world that had a lot of creative effort put into it. In fact, I normally value the world more than the game play. Beyond Good and Evil for instance.

If I had to choose by game play, I would say first person and RTS. Things like Rise of Nations, Stronghold, Lost Kingdoms, a few turn-based first person like LoTR: The Third Age, Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, Pikmin, city building games like the ones from Sierra. I'm thinking about trying Elderscrolls again.

I also love MMORPG's, although I don't play them much anymore. I'm not willing to pay monthly fees and the server quality of the free ones like Silkroad and Kal is horrible. However, when I have less on my plate, I might purchase a month from WoW just because a lot of my friends play it and it's damn fun.

I also have a soft spot for rythym games. Really, just Stepmania.

I'm a FPS or 3rd person shooter kind of guy. I also like RPGs, as long as they don't give me an overwhelming amount of shit to explore (ala elder scrolls), so Final Fantasy and Fable and other such contained RPGs are cool with me. Scrolling shooters are also good if upgrades are given over time, since I love to unleash death at the final level.

I also like RTS once inawhile, because I usually tire of having to micromanage building and sending troops into battle, since I'm still sort of a noob at tactics. Along with games like Ratchet and Clank or Jak, I'm into platformers if the story and gameplay is intresting enough. Action is also cool. Obviously, I am also a WoW addict.

I guess I could play and enjoy anything.

FPS, RTS, arcade, and puzzles.

I have a very specific taste for FPS. They need to have a good story, must have very few scares, and at best need to be from ID software. I do have my excpetions. Doom 3 and a few others.

My all time favourite RTS is Age of Mythology. Second is Rollercoaster Tycoon 2 and 1. I absolutely despise number 3. Anything like so I tend to like.

Puzzle games like Zuma or bejewled are my more generally prefered games. I love puzzle games with a little pace.

Arcade. Nothing beats a good game of Pac-Man.

Games that don't take themselves seriously and satirical games, namely point and click and arcadey shooters. Sandbox games with a RIDICULOUS amount of shit to do are also great.
