I didn't know Ghosts were an acoustic/indie band...
And I guess the same thing could be said about aliens.One person sees them and everyone after them sees them. Maybe ghosts and no-ghosts are just a large portion of "seeing what we want to see."

Perhaps because they've all heard of each other, which colours their expectations? Perhaps because the situations that lead to a ghost-sighting (eg infra-sound or carbon monoxide inhalation) have consistent effects on different people (feeling a "presence", unexplained feelings of anxiety or dread, etc).
That's possible, I suppose. Although, I honestly doubt that members of my family, as wel as my girlfriend, would fake seeing them just for the hell of it. Especially my girlfriend, since she'd never lie to me .
I'm not saying people fake it. I'm saying that people sense something and their subconscious fills in the blanks based on previous knowledge. Then the fact that it connects to their expectations of a ghost-experience merely reinforces to them that it must be real.
So it's really a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Those are exactly the people I don't believe. If it's merely a feeling that a ghost might be there that's driving them to that conclusion, then it could certainly be misinterpreted. However, if they actually saw something; something that they cannot explain (i.e. someone in their house when all the doors are locked, someone who's been dead for years), then I will believe them.
And also, I usually only believe people I know wouldn't lie to me about such things.
Listen to me closely. Someone may sense something and assume it's a ghost. Their brain then tells them that they saw or heard someone. Senses lie, Mister Snuzi.

Now, listen to me, Sir Nate . Senses can trick a person into believing they saw something, true. But. Senses cannot make them believe it was a specific person. How do you explain a person claiming they saw someone who's been dead for a decades?
And I'm not talking about someone who's had one significant death in the family. I'm talking about people who've had quite a few.
Why should the fact that they see a specific person surprise you? I would think it much more likely that you'd expect to see someone familiar than a complete stranger.

On the contrary, I'd think it would be more likely for individuals trying to convince themselves that they saw a ghost, to imagine a perfect stranger. If they claim to have see someone related to them, who's been dead for awhile (especially if we're dealing with a relative they did not know very well, or at all), and are able to describe the person in detail, I feel that their claims suggest that they actually saw something rather than felt something.
I honestly doubt people could just make them up. I mean, alot of people have claimed to see them. How could they all have hallucinated and seen practically the same type of image?
Well we do all have the same basic brain structure, which would explain the same basic effects that drugs have on different people, or why we may see a bright light as our brains shut down.
