Dragon Ball Z.

Does anyone like this show? If you watch the Toonami version on Cartoon Network, then you're probably going to say no, because FUNimation (the people that dubbed it) did a horrible job. The "real" episodes are awsome, and filled with great character development and awsome fight scenes. Anyone else enjoy the show besides me here?

EDIT: Woo-hoo, my 100th post .

I never heard of anyone use that term for it before. But seriously, I bet you never watched the real episodes before, just the horrible American dubs. I don't blame you for not liking it. They ruined the series here in America .

Well, I watch it. Im not ashamed to say it, either. (As long as Im not admitting it in public) However, I do consider it an inferior(sp) anime. I watch it becuase it gives me something to do. Currently I am anti-Toonami/Funmation becuase of their constant butchering of anime. AND WHAT THE HELL IS UP WITH THAT "ZOIDS" SHOW??? ITS PURE CRAP!!!
I always stayed up and watched Cowboy Bebop on Adult Swim. I liked it better than DBZ even though it had little story proggression except for like the last three episodes, when everything comes together.

Frankly, I find the show just like pokemon, but aimed at teenagers who like 34 episode long fight scenes rather then collecting weird looking animals..
I guess I don't like it really because it has such a HUGE fanbase, I get sick of everytime I go to some online chat room/message board and I see 40 Gohans, 54 Goku's, and 64 Vejitas.
Anime wise, I prefer Tenchi Muyo, or the more comedy related ones (The best animated show ever was Clerks: The Animated Series. GOD I love that show!)
Anywhoo.. My Second Message! Wahay!

Yeah, I agree. There are a lot better anime out there, but sometimes it can get intense with the fight scenes and the character development is solid (In the Japanese episodes. FUNi made DBZ a 12 year old slapfest here in the states).

The Cell Saga was okay. The best part was when Son Gohan went SSJ2. The Japanese episode had a great song in the backround, and it was a very powerful and emotional scene, IMO.

EDIT: The saga after the Cell Saga is the Majin Buu Saga, which is also a good saga .

These are the people the ruin the name of Dragon Ball. They are just ten year old kids who watch the Toonami version. They disgust me as well.

Actually ZOIDS is/was? pretty popular in Japan among the younger audiences. However it was mainly to sell the toy line which is undoubtly coming to America. I base this off the fact that during a two year period EVERY FRIGGIN magazine from Japan that I purchased had many many advertisements for this toy line. One of the few anime's made to sell toys rather than manga.

Oh BTW, I back in my youth (snicker) I used to love Dragonball/Z/GT. In fact I still consider the original pretty good for in some parts Toriyama's silly/potty humor really shines through and that is what he likes best.

I used to like Z a lot until 1)I had seen it all years ago and am now sick of everybody (little kids) talking about it like it's the newest shit, and 2)the anime is 70% filler material that isn't always good and is full of staring at eachother. Now staring at eachother can be cool *sometimes* as it's one of the premier devices used in manga/anime but the Z anime just abused this privelage with no prejudice. I prefer the Dragonball manga (which was never called Z in Japan) over the anime. I swear some episodes are based soley off one page sometimes!

And the stuff that Toriyama-sensei did not write (example: the Garlic Jr. saga) is pretty stinky crap. I did like the movies (I own 2 DB, and all 13 Z) but mainly for the mindless and cool looking fight scenes and the animation is high production quality.

Yeah, I hate when people say the "new" episodes of DBZ. They're not new, they've been out for years. But, we're talking about little kids, they don't know any better.

I'm not too big of a fan of Dragon Ball GT, but then again, it didn't have anything to do with Toriyama.

I like Dragon Ball Z. I started watching near the end of the Cell Saga, just before the Cell Games. I've never seen the Japanese versions, and frankley I can't afford them un-dubbed and un-cut so I'll just stik with the dubbed and un-cut versions.

Really? The VHS subs are only like $5, and have like 2-4 episodes on them. If you get the DVD ones, they are a little more expensive, but worth it.

If you like DBZ on Toonami, then you'll go ga-ga over the "real" episodes. Believe me, they are a million times better. Hard to believe at first, but once you see some subs, you'll agree with me 100%.

LOL, I gotta say one thing; DBZ has the worst editing job EVER. Ex: one scene shows a naked goku (JUST HIS BACK, YEASH!) but they decided to draw in some blue jeans (besides the fact that it's just his freakin' back), but I love how the blue jeans jump up and down, and never stay on him.. lol, they're possesed!

People don't realize that Dragon Ball Z is really not for kids. Seriosuly. FUNi just edited out all the good stuff and made it into a kiddy fight-fest. Character development, gone. All the blood, gone (and little trickles of blood down the mouth don't count). All the swearing, gone (not necessary, but very funny). Also, the voices are much better suited to their character.

I can go on and on, but you really have to see the episodes for yourself to see how much good stuff you're missing.

Dragonball
Dragonball Z
Dragonball GT
15 Movies

Dragonball is probably the biggest anime series ever. Although it is pretty weird and sometimes really crap and hard to understand whats going on, but it does often have a good plot now and then.

The dubbed american version of dbz is ok but the original chinese series is cool, its much more violent.

The episodes currently on toonami are old, the frieza saga is on now I think.
That particular fight between Goku and Frieza lasts for over 10 episodes.

Not that anyone really cares but I've seen these Dragonball Z saga's:

Saiyan Saga
Ginyu Saga
Frieza Saga
Garlic Jnr Saga
Trunks Saga
Android Saga
Cell Saga
Great Saiyaman Saga

Actually guys, Dragonball is a "kids" show. That is all relative however...I'm 18 and still watch Sunday Morning Cartoons (becuase in Arizona the schedule is fscked up) and can't wait to see more of the Jackie Chan Adventures & Powerpuff Girls (actually I can wait).

While in some parts this some blood it's nothing gory unless you count a few limbs here and there, but all in all it's quite tame to some animated programs on in Japan.

Like I've been saying for a long time the general American parental population has one big collective stick up it's ass and can't handle a little violence because they are too afraid their helpless & brainless children will become corrupt because someone uttered the word "die" or "we can see Goku's balls" or "we can see the outline of a sparkly-nude Usagi during transformation" or "Tekkaman's ass during transformation" all because they do a horrible job of teaching children hitting so & so is wrong and animated genitalia (unless graphic) is no big deal...

Toonami is replaying the first like 40 episodes of the Buu Saga now.

Saiyan Saga
Ginyu Saga (Not really a "saga.")
Frieza Saga
Garlic Jnr Saga (Filler saga made so the anime didn't catch up to the manga. Boring as hell.)
Trunks Saga (Man, this was like five episodes. Not considered a saga.)
Android Saga
Cell Saga (Some people put the Android and the Cell Saga seperatly, say Android/Cell Saga, or just say it's the Cell Saga. I just call it the Cell Saga.)
Great Saiyaman Saga Not a saga, just some filler episodes, just like when Gokou fought in the other world tournament. The next Saga after the Cell Saga is the Buu Saga.)

A Dragon Ball movie would be great, if they did it right. With movie magic today, they can pretty much do anything. All you would need are the actors and a good storyline .
