Run to roll without stopping

Giday all Oddites.
I've got the PC version of Abe's Exodus and I'm playing using only the keyboard and I can't get Abe to go straight into a roll from a run without stopping (which is fatal where Im up to.). We are in the exit from the Mudomo Vaults. Can someone please help.
