Happy Skin of Mudokons

Alf once told us that Abe's skin was blue because he was the choosen one. Well watch the intro movie for AO and do you relize that the other workers (the ones pulling the levers to let the ribs pass by) also have blue skin and that same type of ponytail

not the ones in AE (the ones that come with abe through the desert) they have black ponytails. I am pretty sure they were blue though. maybe the Europian version might be slightly different or even more likely it might be the fact I am playing iy on the computer rather than a Playstation (they may have changed the skin color (or colour) when they went to Playstation. I think the purpose Abe was blue in the game was so you could tell them apart. Thanks for your reply

I have noticed this before, but when a games been made, theres nothing you can do about it! But of cause, they obviously realised this when they made AE, and changed them all to green, it's like In AO Abe has four fingers, and in AE Abe has three, theres nothing you can do about it now.

this is old stuff...
The lastest the theory is that they are depressed (depressed mudokons are blue in AE), which is quite possible,
this is one of the big mysteries of Oddworld, no one is realy sure

It might just be a plot-hole.

Abe was blue, I assume, to make it easy to tell him from other Muds in-game.
As for "are other Muds blue", you do know when they go blind they go grey. They might be like chameolions.

My theory: A break-up in communication between Mr. Lanning and the game sprites creators caused the sprite creators to make them all blue, instead of dimorphing their color.

Honestly, I don't think it has anything to do with Mudokons having pigment problems, or them being sad.
It was most likely a technical problem in AO, just like the four fingers in AO and the three in AE. Nobody on Oddworld went around chopping off the Mud's pinkies and said, "Here you go, that's your new look for the sequel." No, Japan had that STUPID problem with 4 fingered heroes, and so a finger was removed due to legal reasons.
Also, I think that the reason the Mudokons changed color in the game was simply to give the player more of a hint that told them, "Hey, he's red. He must be angry." I don't think that Muds change color naturally. Why? Because they would have shown it in the Cinematics by now. Abe/Alf have gotten angry plenty of times. And we've seen drunk Mudokons in AE already. And that blind guy was green, too.
I think it's all about helping us understand the gameplay. Like, maybe some of us can't hear the Mudokon going "Rrrrr!", but we sure as hell can see him turning red. It doesn't happen on Oddworld, it's just for the gameplay, a signal to tell us what they're feeling and how we should react.

That's my many absurd theories. Take 'em or leave 'em. Me, I have a report to do on the hystory of paleontology.

BAI!

I don't think the blind guy was green. Well, he wasn't in my copy of the game, anyway. And I agree with your theory. I think the colors are used to distinguish the moods/emotions of the Mudokons and do not necessarily change colors like a chamelion. =)

yeah we have to remember that certain liberties are taken in making a game that will likely be different in the movie (or in the 'real' Oddworld).

BTW I don't

unlikely, as nothing can get into the game final without LL's approval. And he has a reputation as a very hands-on director, so he'd know everything going on.

My theory: "The odds," knew that one must rise to combat the wretched flesh farm, and elected to let fate decide who this most heroic mud would be. All the workers were of a blue-ish shade, because any of them could have become the savior of the Mudokon populous. As (cruel) fate would have it, the most clumsy smuck of them all got the task of rescue (By which event, "the odds," were most certainly bashing their holy foreheads in). As Abe now held the power and destiny to take on this burden, the blue faded from all others, lest two champions should arise from the sadistic slaughter house.

The rest is history, my comrades.

Nepharski, your level of research is very in depth and your dedication is great. Abe rescues the Mudokons from rupture farms right, shouldn't there mouths also be stiched? why don't you see any of the other freed Mudokons later on in other games with stiched lips?

They took their stitches out. Abe left his in as a reminder of his life's work.

I got that from Alf BTW.

Yes, but how did each Mudokon respond to Abe's first words of "Hello. Follow me." They are meant to be stitched. Yes, the excuse that their stitches may have worn out likes Abe's can be used to explain this, but every Worker Mudokon Abe speaks to is able to reply.

I was going to say what Xav said, but he beat me to it.

If you look at Abe though, he is always talking. Either when rescuing the Mudokons or when he is reciting the FMVs. Of course we don't hear much of the other Mudokons other than Alf at the end of Abe's Exoddus, but I always get an impression that they are more quiet than Abe is [whether this be because of their slavery conditions or for other reasons]. Even when Abe was in slavery he seems more "quirky" than the others. Like at the start of Abe's Exoddus when he is cleaning and listens in on the Glukkon's conversation about Mudokon Pops, there is just an impression of him being more light-hearted [the way he sneaks around, etc]. So tying that into how OWI said that it was done as a child, he probably was a child who made more noise than the rest.

Another possibility is that it was used in a testing situation, to see if such a restraining measure would be any use. As we know, Abe speaks through his stitched mouth, so the restraint wouldn't work. Therefore no more Mudokon children would have had their mouths stitched as it was ineffective.

Abe Babe...

Yeah and I haven't seen any blue (other than Abe) Mudokons or stich liped Muds here in my town, so I've never seen any. Get my drift. Never seen em so don't know the truth about em, but in reality we don't change colors if according to our emotions.

Odd trusting reminds me of the guy in the movie K-pax.

I don't remember very well, but there this board on the last screen of RF when go to the Stock yard. It said "You leave and 28 workes die in this level", didn't have muds with stich lips? Or is that just me.

Or wait must be the mudokon pop.

Yeah your right Oddish the pic did have stiched lips and so do those disgraceful Mudokon pops. So where are they, I don't see them here in the village, were did they go? I'm sure Abe will know, I mean he saved them.

Tsk .. Tsk ..Tsk . Odd Trusting still pretending to be a mudokon ? Anyway if I remember correctly did'nt they used to stitch up the lips but it was later abandoned ? Most of the new mudokons would'nt have stitches then . But for skin I just thought . Aging ? Abe is 18 nearly half of his lifespan . And that would pretty old . So same would go for old other muds . Newborns are green however

You could be right. On one of the Newspapers on MO, there is a baby Mud, and it is Orange/pinky colour, so maybe the ydo change colour as they grow older, but then how do you explain Alf?

Alf would be an expection here and I never did get to see a newborn Mud since her highness is in capitivity. And fuzzle guy told me to ask Abe and I will be doing that as soon as I am done with this cup of tea. You know it may be like humans have differnent skin colors too. You all don't have the same skin color do ya? Just most of the muds are green

Just stop . Stop right there . Stop with this mudokon thing . People think you are a basket case . Me being one of those people . You know what ? Ok I am a cyborg slig dude . Howz about I drink some oil , eat metal and go to Sam and ask for a baby mudokon and observe it ? Infact why don't I just ****ing steal one . Stop with the ****ing mudokon thing . It is spam as it is entirely irrelevant . Must I explain ? Mudokons are an artificial creature made of millions of polygons and pixels . They do not exist in any way . Neither does oddworld . It is but an enternaining device . Obviously in your case a brainwashing device .
