I'd like to take the oppurtunity and welcome all of you back to the proper Oddworld Forums. Again, thankyou for waiting patiently while we rushed around frantically like headless chickens to return everything back online. You would have noticed that both Oddworld Universe and Oddworld-Web were back online before the Oddworld Forums. The reason being, Oddworld Universe occupies a very minimal amount of space, both in the database and file system (not for long

). As for Oddworld-Web, everything is file based, and by using FTP, was fairly easy to upload (though Abe Babe told me it timed out a few times). The only problem was getting the domain name to point to the new name servers correctly.

However, as for the Oddworld Forums. Well, they occupy a staggering amount of space, if you consider how big they were when we first moved. It was an ordeal to download the backup in the first place, and then it was a tradegy to upload them. In all, I tried several methods, one method which I iterated four times. It was this method, on the fourth try (which was yesterday afternoon) that was successful. Though, some of the downtime was attributed to my other commitments such as School, which demanded quite a few exams and assignments

So juggling the two was pretty tricky. The remainder of today was spent re-indexing the post index, so that the search function works correctly.

More importantly, we are now on the new server. This new server is a vast step up from the old one, with bandwidth and disk space being increased drastically. Essentially, this means we can host a range of things we (as in Oddworld Universe and Oddworld-Web) have been waiting to host for quite a while. The increase should also cater for the expected increase of members during the Stranger Influx. Although, with the way Stranger is shaping up (in a very positive manner), who knows, perhaps we might go over our limit. But we'll cross that bridge when we come to it. For now, let us hope that we don't have to move servers for at least another two years. I don't think I could bare it

Now that we are back at the proper forums, all rules will be in full force as usual. I understand that on the ezBoard people are more likely to be a little lax, and that is the case, but we expect the standard to be it's normal from now on.

Yay! I checked earlier tonight and it was still going to the ezBoard. I kind of felt like I wasn't doing anything, but Alcar insisted that he didn't need any help with the transfer.

Although "if" there is a next move, I swear we are going to FFD as host ... seeing they helped me transfer my AC forums in under 24 hours.

Still, I have to upgrade that forum to vB soon, so forum moves are going to start to be part of life for me.

Speed seems good so far here, although I have a decent connection.

Fook! Well done, Alcar and Abe Babe. I think it'd be worth moving topics over from the exBoard this time round, as several interesting news items appeared in GD, I know, what with the Hot Nights event and all. Still, I'm glad we're here again. vB offers much better controls for me and whipping those who spam.

I think a special welcome needs to go to those who joined OWF in its ezBoard state.

Hmmm, I'll see to the email invite in a few minutes. As for the ezBoard threads, I don't think that is going to happen. It would require a fair amount of work, and we've already started posting back here. To do it properly, the database would have to remain untouched.

On top of that, it would be another four hours for the re-indexing of the post index (needed after any major changes to the post / thread tables).

Perhaps someone could post a summary thread of everything that happened?

Glad to see the forums back up and running again. Their has been a lot of Oddworld news happening these past few weeks, so it's a good thing they were not down for too long. Thanks for your effort!

I think he was trying for the phonetic spelling of "shit" as exclaimed by a southern redneck american... on by a scottish individual (think Mike Myers in "I married an Axe murderer")

EDIT: Whoops, I got told off by Alcar. In order to fuel the minds of all those who love to have digs at the mods because they suck up to the admin, I would just like to convert this post to an on-topic one by restating how glad I am that the Forums are back online.

That and I can't see a 'Members' button at the top of the Industrial design, not that it doesn't rock in all other senses. *cute smilie*
