Welcome to the Forums, Monkey. Yes, there's an
incredible amount of stuff missing from MO. In fact someone saw me with a copy of MO and said, "Oh Munch, that's a great game," and some guy asked him, "What's it about?" and he replied, "It's about a disabled critter..." and I had to stop him and explain that no, it wasn't, that plot device was left out of the game.
Sam is the only Mudokon Queen alive today, and (in the original storyline of MO) she was to have being held captive by the Vykkers in Vykkers Labs and forced to produce labour eggs while having top secret experiments carried out on her. She's also a pill-popping bitch, and suicidal to boot, which is why she's in the care of a Shrink.
I can list pretty much all the stuff excluded from the final version of Munch's Oddysee, although it will almost certainly ruin the game further for you, and possibly contain spoilers regarding future events in the Oddworld Quintology. That means if you scroll down and actually read through the list and get upset, it's your own fault. I take no responcibility in this.
The Glukkon Queen, the Slig Queen, Munch's mum, Kintos, Gloktigi, Elums, Skeeters, Skrikits, Shrykull, Chroniclers, a return to the ruins of RuptureFarms, Meetles and Mugs, in-level story-telling (eg Munch has to single-handedly rescue Abe from enslavement in a Slog Hut), actually controlling Lulu and following him up the chain of command, Freezer 1345 (and possibly a whole 'Munch cloning' subplot, although that's only a theory), the Gorman Disenza virus, a proper introduction to the Raisin, daily and seasonal cycles, full life-cycles for all the creatures, Klime Java vendos, Mudokon and Slig (including Big Bro) ranks, visual health statuses, Mudflubs, proper water gameplay involving Sea Rexes, Stangs and underwater currents, a world simulation (having actions causing consequences - destroying a factory upstream would result in the water downstream gradually becoming less polluted and being able to sustain much more wildlife), Munch's ability to use his flute-like tongue to communicate with and confuse enemies, fully immersive GameSpeak (being able to possess Sligs, Paramites etc and having proper conversations instead of just hurling insults), elements of RTS, RPG and vehicle simulation, the whole idea of stealth when infiltrating Glukkon facilities, Name That Trauma, the Oddworld Mafia, plus possibly much more than all that, plus whatever I've forgotten. Apologies if I've ruined Munch's Oddysee for you even further, but I did warn you.
EDIT: I forgot to put a link to Alcar's
What Might Have Been article. Go to
Oddworld Universe and click on Features to find it. It contains stuff that I had, indeed, forgotten.
