Metallica fans: Hiding from the Truth
Metallica fans have to be the most uptight group about accusation's of their band being a "sell-out" though it is obvious that Metallica has sold out. They are combative and in denial on this subject to an almost rabid degree. It takes some amount of balls to admit that your favorite band is sliding, if not a total sell-out and I have the utmost respect for people who do. For instance, when Megadeth released Risk it was panned because it clearly was a more commercial album that didn't even compare to earlier releases, and the band was labeled openly as being a sell-out. I think Metallica has exhibited all the tell-tale signs of selling out and I don't see how people can support them. They've broken promises like when they said they wouldn't make music videos.
They attacked Napster to scapegoat their lousy sales. They've cut their hair and gone completely corporate and St. Anger hasn't done anything to change my mind. Lars can't drum, the lyrics are trash, and there isn't a single solo though the average length of a song on the CD approaches around 6 minutes.
This is a bit of an old topic, but a local station around here has an ENTIRE HOUR of programming devoted to it and people still stick up for them.
