The New Art Contest!

Hello everybody this is a remake of a bran new art contest that Alector and I have been conceptualiseing for a couple months now. As you know the other thread became dead. I closed to open a bran new contest that will better suit your busy life styals.

Here is the main set up with a minor change:
1. for this first three month period submit what ever you like and it has to show a boarder. So in other words your work has to have a white boarder around it.

2. You can submit as many pieces as you wish as long as it has that boarder.

3. All work must be in by no later than May 30th.

4. After that date there will be a judgeing of the first 5 winners that will enter into the promised OWF Art Gallery. At the same time the next contest for the second 3 Months will begin as I will give the description I am looking for in those 3 months.

Sounds great, but what's with this yearly thing? If you're going to have monthly requirements and categories, can't you have a winner every month or so? I liked your Hall of Fame idea before. The reason the old thread went to hell is because nobody voted. If that's the reason for killing the old thread, what makes you think this one is going to survive, especially when we're going to have to wait a year to get results?

I say we have a contest every two months and start up a Hall of Fame like the previous idea. This will work if everybody participates...except this isn't my thread, so I'll have to wait and see what PA says.

I don't think Oddworld-related is very good. It could be a category for the competition, but we have plenty of slepndid artists who do more than just Oddworld.

Why does it have to be pencil or ink? I'm not a very frequent user of either and I think it's unfair for those who have a particular style that doesn't include pencil/ink.

Look I am not going to change those rules for this. And Ill tell you why. This is a contest to see how well you can take being an artist. Now I know you guys do more than just Oddworld I am not stupid ok. You guys are great artist and I know you can do hundres of other things. but as the Art director of this contest I want you to do Oddworld Color Pencil and pen and Ink work for now. Now in the next contest which will be in the catagory of paintings mind you I will leave the subject matter open. Hey take it or leave it those are what I am asking for this first contest. If you be a little paitient we will get to non Oddworld so don't worry. I have great faith in you guys that you can create anything,

Because in one way or another if you go into art as a job the Art director is going to come up to you and say I want you to design me this and I want it this way done in this piticular medium. Alector and I know all about this. And you can't tell the art director that its unfair because they will look at you and say fine I will find another artist. Thats very unprofessional I can guarantee you that with attitude like that you won't have an art job. To be a professional you have to be flexible and if it comes to being a challenge then so be it. Those are the rules for these first three months lets see what you guys can come up with. If you can't do a pen and Ink or a Color pencil then I don't know what to tell you.

Thats what I want to see for this first contest. Comeon Mann if you can paint then I honestly think you can do a simple color pencil drawing of Oddworld subject matter. Its the same idea. I am not looking to wether your drawing looks realistic or whatever. I am looking weather you can do it or not and the more I guarantee you now the more knowledge and background you have in different mediums the better off you are in this business. Don't sell yourself short like that mann. The Pen and Ink and Color Pencil is still on.

Look, I don't plan on being a professional artist. Yes, I can draw a simple pencil/ink sketch but that's not where my talents lie, and I think it's foolish to judge someone that's not showing their full potential or style. I will follow these rules if you refuse to change them, but the next time you make a thread like this you should have less or more reasonable rules so people are free to draw how they like and show their real talent.

Ok you guys I change my mind You can submit whatever you like for this first three months. If theres any requirments going to be in this give your work a boarder. Enjoy! And SligSlinger you are right sorry its better off we do it this way.

Actually, now that I see your reasoning, it makes sense to be instructed to draw something. But now, I would hate to go back on what I said and cause even more chaos within chaos. Eek. Now is one of those times when I feel oddly guilty for overlooking a key aspect.

If you think that just an Oddworld contest is unfair, you can put this topic into the art section, not to Fan Corner. Fan Corner is Fan Corner. It's based on Oddworld, that's why it is called Fan Corner.

I can understand you. You wish to post other pictures. But sorry. I think there should be Oddpics instead of "free" art drawings.

Either you are Oddfans, or you're not.

Please don't understand it wrong, I don't want to cause a fight, but that's just my opinion.

I dunno what to do I tried to make the contest have a little bit of a challenge by giveing requirements and people started to attack me. Then I go to what the people want and that is simply submitting anything. Now people change their mind. Now I dunno what to do and as far as I am concerned I am just going to stay out of it. You guys are in control if you notice how I un stickied this thread because I don't see this becomming a successful contest. I am done with this contest I never should have done this in first place but go figure I can't please anybody here so I am through I left it to you guys. You guys do what you want I am going to go work on my own fan fics and artistic projects that I wanted to do all along silly me I should of known. Good bye!

Hey PA/Alector, after this one would you consider having a Non-OW art contest similar to it? I'd really enjoy that. Plus, I think you'd get more members contributing, since it's up to them as to what they will create.

You post what you want I am just saying that I doubt this contest will even work. I mean It hasn't worked so far and its been 4 months and now I create a new contest and I am getting the impression it still won't work. So I un stickied it because of that. So if I see a huge jump in art submission then I will sticky it again but until then I am in doubt about this. Its all your choice now I am sitting back and waiting.

Anyway, PA, can I...like... say something? I know I'm not the top notch in art and shite, but ...whatever.(I'm still gonna say it! Bwahaha!!)

Um, these contests are, in my opinion, a great idea--but what you should do is the make the rules more simple. You know what I mean? ...dontcha?
What I mean is, you should think these things over before you even start writing a thread. You should have, like, a full plan in your head-- a carefully thought plan, where you have thought over these kind of things. ...I don't know if I'm making any sense or not... english isn't my native language, you know...

I... I think I'll shut up now... and...um.... go have a cup of too hot coffee and burn my mouth whilst drinking it. That I'll do! Cheers! *runs off*

I understand Red so here is what I am going to do after carefully thinking about this for some time now. I am going to close this thread this was messed up. And then I will create 2 new established contest. One Oddworld Art Contest and one Non Oddworld Art contest in Non Oddworld Art and Litature. That way the two subjects will be split so we aren't confused.

I am sorry if I sounded bumed guys but this was driveing me crazy on how nobody was doing anything. I was fustraited not at you but at the idea I was trying to do.

Don't worry I am back and strong now and this time around I will guarantee all of you that its going to work. And thanks for reminding me of that. You guys are great!

Now before I close this thread I want to build an Art Team. I am going to call it the OWF Art Department. This team of artist will be the 2 contest judges. They will be able submit their own work aswell so don't worry about that. So if anybody whome is intrested to be a member of the OWF Art Department let me know in this thread or by PM I need six members. 3 for the Oddworld Art Contest and 3 for the Non Oddworld art contest. So I am back guys and its going to be better than ever I guarantee you this. Lets all work together on this and build something from it.

I finally got this all carefully worked out. Now I need six members. And we can get this started!

So anybody else intrested let me know. When we start these contest I am going to pm all of you who are judges on the details. I am also going to ask which contest you would like to be judge of. I need three for Oddworld art and three for non Oddworld art.

Sometime this week I hope we can get this started.
