The day you became an Oddworld fan!

Ah as I think to early days of Oddworld I can remember the very instant I was hooked on this game. I remember it like it was yesturday. My brother went out to the video store. He rented a game and of coarse it was AO. At first I was not sure about it. It looked cool but I dident even think that I could even know how to play this very different game. That night I spent trying to figure out the controls to Abe and what I needed to do. It took me about a week to understand it fully but I still couldn't even get past Rupture Farms. My brother kept renting it but he got fustraited with it so he just was getting un interested into it. But me I started to become fascenated into it that I kept renting it over and over again until one day I baught it.

I was so cereous on what would happen next and what happens in the end that I just pretty much learned the game by trial and error. It took a whole summer three months to figure the whole game out. And I was glad I did. I balieve that entire summer turned me into a true fan of Oddworld. I got so hooked with it I just loved the game. As for my brother he doesn't like it. Hehe he can't even get past Rupture Farms. I mean as I look back who would of known that one day I would end up here a big fan of Oddworld who is pro at all three games and knows where and how to play Oddworld knows all the secrets and understands a lot about it. Knows how the game works in order to win. I bet ya I can play all three games without dieing once in any of them. Thats how good I am. And the story line now that is one of the things that got me so hooked in this game.

Well enough with my story how about your story how did you end up being a fan of Oddworld?

It was a few years ago, not too long after AO was released. A friend of mine borrowed the game from a friend of his. I went over to play it (on the playstation) and I was hooked. I too, couldn't even get past Rupture Farms. I continually went over there to play it.

Until, we got a playstation of our own. With the fantastic Abe's Oddysee with it, as my first Playstation game. I continued to play it, and eventually got Abe's Exoddus.

Then, come Christmas 2002. I get an Xbox, and a few days before hand I bought Munch's Oddysee. Making Munch's Oddysee my first Xbox game.

I've been an addict for as long as I can tell.

Alcar...

When I received my Playstation for my birthday three years ago, I was extatic, but having no games for a week I played the demo disk over and over but two games had me hooked; the first, Overboard a weird little boat game which upon playing again recently I find that I hate it to bits. And the second, was the infamous Abe's Oddysee. I played it to bits, loving the possessing of what I thought to be some strange partially completed robots. I saved up for a month, doing every little job around the house to get thirty dollars, until the day finally came and I bought AO and was very impressed by the much longer opening movie. It was my second game, with Crash Bandicoot and Rock 'n' Roll Racing 2 tieing as first.

When I saw a magazine in a shop with Abe on the front, and a demo disk with him starring I bought it making that my first PSX magazine. It told me about the next Oddworld game and after the demo I knew I had to play it. I was too cheap to purchase the game myself though (it was eighty bucks and I was a mere child) and now look back on this sadly as it is not sold in NZ anymore. So I borrowed it from a friend and I was a full fan from then on.

You say that so proudly...

AO was sort of a last choice for me. I rented games for my PS and i rented the majority that appealed to me and the rest were Sports games. So i saw AO and i just picked it up, i thought it was thooper though...

Thankfully now i have a life. Phew, close call, eh?

I allready writed that in my interview when I was FOM
http://www.oddworld.com/alf/ow_fan15.html

:
When did you first become aware of Oddworld?
Xavier: Begin 1999, a friend told me about it. At first, I didn't expect I would like it so much. A few weeks later I borrowed Abe's Oddysee and I was even more enthusiastic. It was the French edition and I made a copy for me (shhhht). But later I bought the original (so, you see, I'm not a bad guy). Now I have got: Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee, French and English. Oddworld: Abe's Exoddus, French and English. Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, English. And they are all original ones!

When did you first become a "true" Oddworld Fanatic?
Xavier: When I got Internet: from this moment I saw all those images, videos andÉ other fans. When I began working for "Oddworld Maniac" I became really fanatic! How long have you been reporter for the French fan site? Since March 2001. I appreciated the site Oddworld Maniac, because it was the only one in French and I could understand everything. Psykobee, the webmaster of Oddworld Maniac, asked for help because he couldn't run the site alone: and I reacted. So Psykobee picked up the most interesting and interested people who replied to his message: I was one of them. Now Oddworld Maniac has changed several times of server. And the only ones who stay in the Staff are Psykobee and myself. Now we only have a small site called Oddworld News, but Psykobee is working on something bigger.

Happy I guess sharing can't hurt any...

My friend showed AO to me (on PC) because he thought I might like it. He was right.

But it wasn't until I bought AE for myself that I really got interested in the games. Something about the kreepiness of the first two really appealed to me, and I'll admit that as a ten year old the whole fart thing was pretty funny. After a while I eventually bought AO and began learning more about the whole oddworld universe on the internet.

I first became an Oddworld fan three months before Abes Oddysee came out. At the time I believe I was going into fourth grade. My friend had a subscription to PlayStation underground, and on Disk two I found a playable demo for something I interpreted as A-B-E's Oddworld Oddysee(note I was still a young kid not really understanding a lot of concepts advanced or foreign at the time). Eventually I started playing the demo for a few days, it was of the first level not with any secrets or fully working gameplay. I learned how to communicate with the slaves, possess the sligs. When I got out to the stockyards, a few screens later there was an impassible mine field, I walked through and died. Then it showed a preview for the game, and said coming September 1997. So that September I got the game as an early christmas present. And then when 98 came around I got Abes Exoddus the day it came out. For then quite some time I waited and finally purchased MO along with Halo and my other Xbox stuff the day it came out here in the U.S., and that leads up to my freshman year in highschool now.(9th grade) I still like Oddworld but I'm not completely obsessed as I used to be. Its a fun game and I will continue to the buy the games of course. But I will not completely overboard with it. This like I said doesnt mean Im not a true oddworld fan, because I have been a fan since the beginning, will always be a true fan, this just means Im not going to spend all my time with Oddworld on the mind. And that is my history of being an oddworld fan. Eventually I forgot to add, I found Oddworld Forums, In which it was October 20th 2001,(last year) And I noticed many people were here discussing, MO awaiting its release. So I registered, and for the past year Ive been on the forums, leading up to today.

My brother got MO as an X-Box game, thinking I would like it. I did. I beat it over our Thanksgiving break, if I remember ocrrectly. I liked it, so I found the forums and stuff. I was an idiot then. Quite pathetic.

Eventually I found AO for $10 at Sams. I bought it. I think I left it about halfway through. It got bit tedious after a while. Its not the kind of game to get me hooked, though I'm considering trying to finish it before my Christmas break ends.

I'm not a complete fanatic, but the games are pretty good.

Well that is true being overly hooked can be very pointless. I am a great fan but I am not overly hooked or any fanatic. I know sometimes it sounds as if I am but I am not. Hell I havent played Oddworld in while now. I would say at least since last July. I am just getting kind of bored with it at the moment because nothing new has come yet. When something new happens I will start playing again. In the mean time I keep my three games put awey until I feel Ill play them again. And that is usually when something new happens with Oddworld. I get hooked for a few months with Oddworld and then I just put the games awey until next time. After a while it gets tiresome and I want something new.

Oddworld for me is one of those games that I play only for the story and work of art in which it is. I am not obsessed or fanatic for it I am just saying that it is a real inspiration for me in many aspects towards my art. That is the reason why I am a fan of it. So if I sound as if I am very overly obsessed over this game I am not I am just expressing my inspiration in that manner. Im not obsessed Im inspired thats all.

Hmmmm.... I became an Oddworld fan just a few days after I got my Playstation. I only have one game at the time (which was really crappy) and was playing it constantly, untill I got a demo disc in the mail. I wasn't sure about it so I poped the top of the PS and put in the demo. At first there were ton's of choices that I could choose from and eventually after trying out all of them I got board. Then, for some reason (no idea why) I began hitting all the buttons on the controll like mad. The next thing I knew I was taken to a differen't part of the demo disc where they had a video for the game "Jurrassic Park- The Lost World" and Abe's Oddysee.

After veiwing the lost world thing I turned to AO, the description and pics of it that they had looked interesting enough so I decided to try it. Immediatly after the begining movie I knew I had to have the game...and it grew from then on.

Well, let me think...

It all started when I bought a PC magazine with a full version game in it. I hoped it's a strategy game, but I was disapointed when I saw that it's Abe's Exoddus. "I heard about this before." I said. "Some creatures make meat products from these Mudokons. Wait... I think that was the other game... Hmm... Ah, yes, Abe's Oddysee." I thought.

When I arrived home I installed the game and started it. It was scary! I was frightened but I didn't stop the game. The mines were soo scary. But I went trough it and then I saw Necrum. And those Fleeches. "Hm, maybe this game isn't soo bad afterall." And when I saw the intros about the Glukkons, then I became a true Oddworld Fan (see my username! ).

How I became an Oddworld Fan

Well, my first contact with the game came when my family and I went to visit some friends of my parents. That was around 5 years ago. They had a playstation so I just started playing. Well, I took a look at the demo disk and found a demo of Oddworld: Abes Oddysee. And... well, I just got hooked to the game.

About a year later, when I got a playstation, I bought Abes Oddysee. And, I couldn't stop playing. I don't know how many times I've finished the game... but hehe, all I can say is that I never got perfect quarma for the game...
