Is Oddworld Going Under?

I hope not, personally but I've seen and heard some unsettling things lately, such as Oddworld Inhabitants losing money, waning interest and the loss of a very large fan base due to the controversial switching of consoles. (A very tired topic, to say the least). I don't want to be the jerk who spoils everything but it's a reality that projects fall through and don't get completed, especially in the business world. It's also obvious that the Quintology is a very ambitious project. Oddworld Inhabitants have produced three very entertaining games but just like every video game publisher and every rock band in the history of music, they're bound to release something that isn't on par with what they've released so far. With the company having lost money this could be a disaster. I am not making any predictions and I'm not saying that this is or isn't going to happen but the possibility of the Quintology not being completed is a topic worth discussing. Any takers?

Most people said MO was the worst one yet so thats why they might be short on Moolah. Also By next installment,and XBox will have more users and more Moolah will be made.

Besides, the next game will definatly have alot more features and will be alot better than MO, scince its officially going to be on Xbox.

hey guys, my Uncle Mikey works at KB's headquarters and he said that they were gonna come out with an even BETTER game console. He said X-box is not gonna be that good and will eventually go down the toilet like Super Nintendo and Sega Genisis did. If this does happen and Oddworld Inhabatants still persist to use X-box for the rest of their games they might go out of bussiness. If they are smart, they will change to this new game console that is yet to be realesed and once the people see this brand-spankin new thing, they'll start bitting. I don't have an X-box so I have not played Munch's Oddysee, but from what i hear it's pretty cool. But the idea of weapons and other things like the Blitzpacker thingies sounded kinda......... different then what I was raised on. Another thing I'm worried about is that cause many parents, including my own, want to wait till X-box is cheaper, then buy it, but by then i'm worried it will be too late and I'll have missed out on all the stuff. Why is life so cruel to me? Why must i suffer every waking moment of my life, waiting for that tragic day to happen? Why must my only refuge and happiness be doomed to be inferior to the other game consoles?!!!! WHY ODD? WHY?!!!!!!! What have I done to diserve this?! What have WE done to diserve this?! Life sucks!

Come on now! This is nonsence. Oddworld Inhabitants doesn't make game for money. If that was true they wouldn't even have a Dear Alf section, fan art section, or fan fiction section on their site. Furthermore, I conclude that if we have faith in Oddworld Inhabitants and faithfully buy their games then they will NOT go under.

Genesis and SNES in the toilet? Sure they don't release games for them anymore, but the glory days of the SNES were in 1995, 5 years after their release. The X-Box has scarcely come out, and already has some good games. Anyone knows the reason Genesis and SNES are "in the toilet", is that they have no 3-D capabilities and game programming has picked up significantly since then. The SNES had the grandest life of any system other than the PS-X. I hate to disagree with you, Oddling, really I do, but implying that the SNES is FeeCo. Matter is not nice.

I wouldn't be surprised if they did go under. On the site they are looking for new empolyee's so that suggests people have quit or been sacked.

Highly unlikely to happen within this year and/or next. We would have heard about it now, if they dont get the publicity then this new console will suddenly melt away, just as the Dreamcast did.

X-Box will be out of date in 3 years however, that is when the PS3 is coming out. That will be out of date in one year, as that is when the X-Box 2 is coming out. The exitement!! (And yet confusion)

Oddworld Inhabitants did get a more powerful console when they switched to XBOX but they took a major gamble. Some fans with Playstation 2s just threw their arms in the air and said, "Fine, if you guys are going to betray your fans, I'm not buying your stuff anymore." I, being completely out of my mind, purchased an XBOX just for the Oddworld series (I didn't own a PS2 besides it) but I just might go as far as to say that switching to XBOX was a misstep by the company. It did improve the game graphically and mechanically but committing corporate suicide is never worth these results. I'm not even saying that OI did this, but it's a possibility that they did. That's all I'm saying. Also, on the console longevity issue, something bigger and better will always be on the way, so it's a waste of time to worry about it until we can actually see it coming.

I feel like replying here...

The X-Box move for some seemed unreasonable, but it is worthwhile in the long run. Oddworld isn't very well known as some games are, half the gamers I know hardly even have a clue whats its about (if they've even heard of it). If they are losing money, and do need employees, then thats a bad sign. If the quintilogy is the "tip of the ice berg" they may not have enough money, time or power to pull through. If it does come through, gain publicity, gain moolah to build with and the rest of the projects (movies, etc...) pull through than hey, theres a legend.

I know how OWI could make some more money!

Change their name to Mediocre to Shite Studios.
Get a licence.
Kill the licence by producing crap games.
Call the games 'Shite Crap Fest n'*
Release a new one each year with different (or the same) characters and one more feature and better graphics.
No need to worry about capital any more as idiots will keep buying the games if the licence is car- or 'extreme' sports-related.

* Where n stands for the current year.

See? Easy!

I do have a better way to do it though: Release the rest of the games on all viable platforms and make sure they are good.

I don't think they are really going under because they are as we speak makeing ME. They are in a top secret mode in which they don't want to spill the beans out for us. And I don't blame them. too much publicity on a game can ruin the day like what happen with MO. Its best they keep silent about things. Just because they were loseing some mony doesent necessarely mean OWI is finnished. They just need to find a different approach to things. I am sure this type of stuff happens to bussinesses all the time. Lanning seems to be a smart person I honestly think he will pull through for his company. He just needs to make his game more attractive and for what I have read in the inhabitants interview its sounds pretty interesting. Just because they are looking for new staff doesent mean they are going under aswell. They could be trying to find any new talent that they can use. A company such as this like production studos and such are alweys searching for new talent. It is a type of art and Lanning is only trying to make his art even better than before. All artists such as Lanning are never satisfied with their product. I know because I myself am becomming an artist and I feel my work is never quite up to par as I want it to be so I look for the future. Besides MO did win several awards I might add.

Lastly if OWI is going down then Odd help us all!

Come on, I don't mean to be mean or pessimistic, but you can't seriously be this naïve...

Oddworld won't go under, because they have lowered their target audience, as we can see by MO's childish nature. They did this to make more money, and I don't see why it might not work. They may lose faithful fans like myself, but they won't lose money...

"down the toliet" as well. After a couple of years with no newbies, and the amount of experianced users is going down quite a lot now, with more posting less and less frequently then the forums goes bye-bye!

For now I'm crossing my fingers and hoping they'll stay in bussiness. and if they do go down the toilet, then don't think about those last fatal moments, think of the good times * SNIFF* just think about the happy times *sniff* think of when you were a little 6 year old seeing a comercial for a video game, buying it, and being mesmerized by it. *sniff* Oh Odd please don't do this!!!!!!!! *sniff*Why? Why?!!!!!!!!Well for now I"m trying my best to cope with the situiation and think that it's just a little down side that happened and will be over soon. *Bursts into tears* Just think about the good times!!!!!!!! Hm. I've started asking a lot of my friend's with X-Box's about Munch's Oddysee and many of them come up with:
"That game sucks."
"It's stupid."
"Hard to understand."
"My friends say it sucks."
"I'd rather play Dubya-dubya-ee."
I hereby conclude my town is full of really, really short-minded people. Either that or their just plain dumb.

Although this post has really nothing to do with the subject, I just thought I'd share it with you people.

First off, OWI has made millions,(AO sold over a million copies), while AE and MO has sold nearly as many; OWI is not running out of money. Second, that thing about a new game console coming out is total garbage, unless he meant PS3. Anyway PS3 won't come out for a long time. When we got the first PS2 screens it took years for it to be released. Third, Dreamcast went down the toilet because they were running out of money; Microsoft won't be running out of money for a long time. XBOX is the best system out there, quality wise. Dreamcast's power could not compare to PS2's, so it died. XBOX and the Oddworld Quintology are here to stay.

Thats what I did meen! And I'm not a he i'm a she! It's okay, simple mistake. Well I geuss you're right, we worry to much, why is everyone a pesimest? I took a test though and it said I was an optimist. Strange. Anyway, Oddworld is NOT going under mkay? They are doing perfectly fine mkay? We're all acting like my Nana, it's like I'm Oddwolrd Inhabitants trying to climb a tree, and Nana is down there screaming that I'll fall and break my leg. Which she always does. Hm, theres always a chance OWI will go up in flame, destroying all work and plans. then they go down and all become hobos... And about the Dreamcast thing, it failed because people didn't think it'd be good, and they were waiting for PS2, Low and behold, Dreamcast still has just as good of graphics and much cooler games... *sigh*

I think it was the lack of third party developers that killed the Dreamcast. Sega didn't have games like Final Fantasy and the Oddworld series to keep it alive. (I'm not hawking Final Fantasy; I've never even played those games) The same thing could possibly happen with the XBOX but Microsoft won't have to pull the plug on it as early as Sega had to on the Dreamcast because Sega was already losing money upon the release of the Dreamcast. I'm a lot more worried about the quick rate that Oddworld is losing fans than I am about any console issue.
