Melvin, yes. I rented Manhunter after I finished the book and although it was okay, it didn't have the same grittiness or sense of awe that the book created. Manhunter was too surreal and the presentation of the film is something that can only be appreciated if you're living in the 80's.
Disgruntled, I agree that Norton is a good actor. I imagined Will Graham as being more weathered, with a few grey hairs and wrinkles. He's supposed to be retired.
Danny, I'd count on the film makers expanding Lecter's role, as he's who most movie-goers want to see. The bad guy's name is Francis Dolarhyde and he's played by Ralph Fiennes. I'm not sure how I feel about his casting, as I envisioned Dolarhyde as having a more heavyset face, with a stronger jaw and a little more sex appeal. And he's supposed to be scandanavian with really blond hair and blue eyes.
