oddworld darker

hello,

was anyone here dissapointed that there were no night time levels or caverns in mo, i was pretty annyed.
not only that but i did not think that it was dark enough im not talking night time im talking about the storyline it did not convey the true horror of vykkers labs, im not saying that it should have been more gruesome just creepier. infact one early preview said "playing munch's oddysee will be more creepy then playing on quiji board".
i hope that either m.e. or s.o. will be darker not only in gameplay and feel but in storyline.

I agree, partially. While I'd love to play at night or deep underground, I didn't really think the bright wilderness area was too clean for Oddworld.

As for the Vykkers Labs, I think OWI did a pretty good job. The opening sequence, with the Vykkers going out to get Munch, was suitable frightening, as was Munch being trolleyed into R and D (which quickly turns into a comedy, with Humphrey and Irwin shouting at each other in high pitched voices, which is familiar Oddworld style). And the bad ending was excellently twisted. But yeah, I'd love to see a much more horrific view of Vykkers Labs, or play through the game and hear the occassional scream from a tortured Fuzzle.

I have high hopes for all future Oddworld games, ME especially.

I aint to fussed about the blood etc.

I want full interaction though, seeing more animals, seeing creatures in test tubes that you can smash etc. Being able to sneak up on Vykkers and catch them experimenting and shtuff. That'd be good...oh, and also BETTER A.I!!

Although the wilderness areas of MO have their place, I think they should be mostly replaced in future games by darker, more necrotic areas such as caves in swamps. It is hard to remeber what you are fighting for (freedom of slaves and livestock, an end to animal cruelty and deforestation) when you continually stop to look at the pretty glare mark from the sun. In AO and AE you were continually reminded of the decadence of oddworld while traveling through factories, barracks and caverns but in MO you forgot about it.

The opening movie in Munch was a bit sad seeing him all by him self and all, the last of his race. When I showed it to my girl friend she thought that was pretty emotional in some ways. I think Munch's story a bit more sad than Abe's story. Since Abe had to escape Rupture Farms and save his people because Molluck was going to turn him and his pals into lunch. At least Abe still had his race. Munch unfortunatly dident. So I think that adds kind of an emotional ring to the story you know?

No, Munch's Oddysee definitely lost the dark theme of Abe's Oddysee. However, compared to the cinematics in Abe's Exoddus it's creepy enough to raise the dead and scare them to death again.

But I don't really think the strong current of sinister backtones is ever going to run strong through Oddworld again. Not to say we'll never see it again, in some shape or form, but we're all used to Oddworld now - it's just not easy to get scared to death by a mummbling octopus or a robot slug any more.

However, Munch's Oddysee does deliver fantastic emotional scenes, 'Caught', 'The Gabbiar Auction', 'Fuzzle Fury' and the first part of 'Under the Knife' being the best.

Oddworld

OM is humerous but i do agree that a little more seriousness should be shown like the Vykkers being very sadistic.
