Somebody talk me into getting an Xbox! Please!

I can't decide if I am going to get an Xbox. I mean..I would have to work a lot of hours to get the xbox, and then a lot more to get munches oddysee. I wish they would like give us a free game if we bought the system. I am just having money problems right now. I want one so bad, I just don't know if I can get it.

Please someone confirm that there are more pro's than con's in this...

Also, wouldn't it suck if we all bought an X-box and then OI switched gaming systems again? I am not saying anything bad about OI, I love them to death...

Why should I get an Xbox besides the fact that Oddworld is on it?

can't help you there Elum...I am sort of in the same boat as you are.
I want MO...but MO is the only game on the X-Box I am interested in right now...and I don't believe in getting a whole new console just for one game...

Thats what I think. But there will be a lot more Oddworld games - all on the Xbox. Another plus is the dvd - we need one for the living room. I got one in my room.

Ya, I have to work really hard for my parents to get enough $$ for the Xbox. But it should be worth it. Besides MO, there are some other cool games coming out for Xbox. It matters what types of games ya like, but for RPG's there's Elderscrolls III and Project Ego (which I don't think comes out till, what, 2003ish?), for Adventrue there's Azurik and Nightcaster (Spyro and Crash are also coming, I think.) There are others, but basicly I'm tring to say is that there is a wide variety of games for Xbox, and most of them look interesting. Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Hand of Odd coming out for Xbox? That's supposed to have a bunch of Elums, isn't it?
P.S. Make your decision soon 'cause the pre-order lists are filling up...

actually, ps2 dvd is pretty poor compared to the xbox dvd (or so ive been told ). plus, theres the communicator which you can actually use your voice for when the net feature pops up in the spring. for ideas on gettin games, talk to steel shark. he REALLY knows his stuff. plus, xbox will be one of the best systems for the next five years or so. and, ( i know. im a fanatic) it costs just as much as the ps2 even though its got much better hardware. not to say that the ps2 doesnt have good games. there you go. i hope ive influenced you even in the slightest.

Here I am to show you the light young grasshoppa.

Oh XBOX how I love thee, let me count the ways.

1. Munch
2. All of ODDWORLDS seequels
3. Extra DVD
4. HDTV compatible (If not now then in the future)for you ELUM
5. 5.1 Dolby surround sound

A break in the countdown, I have seen in real-time and playtested all of these games I am about to mention,I have seen concepts of future areas within these games as well, I have talked to countless Devs in intricate detail on all of these games, from graphics, A.I., sound, music, gameplay, etc,etc...

I am neutral, I'm no salesperson,I am just calling it as I see it, this is my preferred system. I own PS2, I like alot of what's coming on it, I will own Gamecube as well within 2 months as well. But if I were forced to own only one system it would be XBOX for oh sooo many reasons.

The games will be better due to the most basic of reasons, "BRUTE POWER",textures, A.I., graphics, lighting,on and on.

Just ask ODDWORLD themselves about the XBOX. These are pros who could have gone with PS2, why did'nt they? It cannot do what the BOX can. The oddworld people could have milked the cashcow, made a ton on a very nice PS2 version and then done it the real fantastic way and made a directors cut with the XBOX. They chose XBOX because they want there masterpiece on only the best, as simple as that. Elum MO, will only be on XBOX, never on PS2,and that's a fact, and the sequels as well.

No other games coming on the XBOX, Hello........ Hello, stop fooling yourselves, only MO, come on people get with the program, if you cannot honestly say you want more than just MO on the XBOX well you are no true gamer,or you just have not done your homework, sorry but that's a fact.

ELUM, here are some links to games coming on the XBOX, look them over, tell me what you think.

Project EGO:

http://xbox.ign.com/previews/16526.html

Metal gear solid 2 X, yes a directors cut will come this Spring, whole new version of the PS2 version.

Silent Hill 2 X a directors cut as well.

Strident: http://xbox.ign.com/previews/17000.html

Malice: http://xbox.ign.com/previews/15145.html

Halo: http://xbox.ign.com/previews/15922.html

Enclave:
http://xbox.ign.com/previews/16337.html

Duality: http://xbox.ign.com/previews/16999.html

Morrowind: http://xbox.ign.com/previews/16675.html

Azurik: http://xbox.ign.com/previews/16181.html

Shrek: http://xbox.ign.com/previews/15764.html

DOA 3: http://xbox.ign.com/previews/16249.html

There are more that I have been lucky enough to see in person that will be coming in later 2002, for example: Xavier Fox, Matrix, Orchid, Kleaners, Heavens beast, 24 Automatons, all of these if out today, would be the best overall games made, they are all true next-gen games being pushed by a very powerful machine the XBOX,the dev's have more freedom now with this new found power for A.I. and graphics and so on. And they will just get better from there. Don't forget Elum that these are the first year titles, there will be another 4 years or so of games beyond these on the XBOX.

For example Strident and Duality, they will be MGS2 on steroids, it's the next gen of MGS2 with these games.

Now the games I mentioned were just a handful, there are many more that will suit your needs and style, just keep an open mind and really take a look and I believe you will see the light that I already see shining brightly.

Oh yes and some of these games may seem like nothing more than names to you now, but remember I have seen them in person, and they are for real, far beyond what we have seen thus far, and they are still in progress, they'll get even better and deeper with developement time.

Here are a couple secrets,( to this point no one outside the Dev team know it's true identity) you know the game Kleaners, it's a tactical squad based action game that blows the lid off MGS2,you shall see. Orchid, you like MO, wait till you see this beast in action, bizzare and original, with major "Depth" with a capital "D".

Well those are the many reasons I believe in the XBOX and hope you join the party. And hopefully we will get to race around Oddworld with the creature ELUM real soon.

Oh did I mention MO, oh yes I did, but it is worth mentioning again. Stay cool Elum, and hope to see you on the XBOX express.

Thanks for the compliment Joe the intern, boy do we got good taste, viva XBOX...........

Very happy to hear the news Elum. And welcome to the dark side ( MICROSOFT ).

I am glad I could be of help. You know us Elum lovers have to stick together, you being Elum fan #1, and me being right behind. Now I just cannot wait to play Munch and all those other great games this great new system will offer.

Oh by the way, I forgot to mention a couple other titles that will be blazing hot, Panzer Dragoon X, and Terminal Reality, a game of unbelievable depth. In Terminal Realities secret game ( It was a technical showcase to show off the XBOX's unbelievable potential and power, now a up-coming game) they have been experimenting with 3D glasses of the future, far beyond the ones played around with up until now. They hope to have this beast of a game ready for Fall 2002, just another one to drool over until it gets here, but it'll get here.

As for Panzer Dragoon, well you like Elum and the ability to ride that son of a B-t-h, wait till you see and ride the skies with these babies, ( Dragons). It may be my most anticipated game as of now.

If all goes well I'll be going to the TGS in Japan in a couple weeks, they promise to have all the big games there and for the most part have them in a playable form. I'll try and give a first hand scoop on some details if possible.

Well stay cool and may the XBOX be with you.

I'm still not convinced. Most likely I'll hold out until the pc port of Munch is released, then buy an upgrade for my pc's video card.

(Although I'll probably have to rent the Xbox a couple of times to ease the waiting for the pc port! )

Dark side? This isn't one of those cult things, is it? Anyway, Steel Shark, I was just wondering. How'd you get to test allll those games? Whatever job you have, that's my new career path Can you give us some dirt on some of the kewl points of the Xbox games you've seen? *motions towards project ego and morrowind*

Microsoft is sometimes called the dark empire. So I just threw in a joke there. To me it is "BLISS",and lightens up my day.

It's a long story of who I am and what I've done in the games industry from a very young age to where I am now.

Quick as possible: I have invested in games, both money and art, level design, and effects,I am now creating my own full-length CG movie, have been for over a year now, pre-production will be complete in a couple months. I own 2 studios, one in Newport beach California, and the other in Brugge Belgium,(opens only in December offically). Blah blah, blah, so I have made tons of connections, and my connections have made tons more,so I get the benefits of this. Also dev teams are always looking for extra cash before they sign on with publishers,so they look for hired guns such as my self for help in the cash flow and art world of there projects.

My movie will be a 2 hour beast,no lame fruity atmosphere or cheesey dialog, hard hitting rollercoaster of a ride on an epic quest, based on a massive Sci-fi/fantasy story. Talk is pretty cheap, I'll let the visuals and story do it's own talking after the new year when full on animation and effects begin to develope, I'll show some of the concepts and screens and a few short trailers as well in due time. One thing I would like to mention, the sets in my movie dwarf anything done before, sounds like a lot of fluff, but just wait, the world shall see soon enough.I'll let it do my talking then.

What can I say about Project Ego, little is known, but what is known is already legendary. Major top of the list game for me.Anything I get from it I'll pass along here. Morrowind is another epic in the making for over 3 years now,it's pretty secretive as of now but will be a must have this Fall.

Fuzzy, you like MO, well just keep an eye out for Orchid, coming in Fall of 2002,stunning and playable to the hilt. Mo meets Matrix if you can some how picture this. Original and as playable as MO is. And well sooo many more,it's a good time to be a gamer. Keep cool and keep XBOX'IN.........

That's really cool Steel. It makes me feel like even a video gamer can make it big without selling out. Kewl! I guess I'll keep brushing up on my mad BASIC skilz (who needs graphics anyways )

I'm a videogame fan since the old days of the Atari Pac-Man & alike, and what hooked me since the beginning was the amazing things you can do with computer graphics.

A game with a red pixel floating in the screen would be an asteroid, a white pixel controled by your hand would be your spaceship, and when you pressed that big red button, a bunch of purple pixels would go out of your spaceship and hit the red pixel making it disappear in a cloud of grey pixels. Well, You've just blown up an asteroid with your Phaser-Laser-Cannon-Torpedo gun, and you really bieleved that, for a second...

Now talking about the XBOX, I think it's the first time we are going to be teletransported into a paralel universe after we finally sit in front of a huge HDTV screen, surrounded by five or so pieces of stuff of a 5.1 dolby stereo system, and with a small controller in our nervous, sweaty hands, to play a simple videogame.

I'm on it, you betcha!

Here is another great point for the XBOX.A Morrowind link to tons of previews and interviews. The game is massive and deep as can be, and is a real gem.

Maybe its one of those, I'd tell you, but then I'd have to kill you things (if I had a nickel for every time I've said that...). It sounds pretty cool. Steel, when you say "based on a massive Sci-Fi/fantasy story" does that mean its also a novel? (see first sentence ) BTW do you know any good previews of Orchid. From the 2+ sentences I've read on it it sounds intriguing.

Fuzzy: Yes it is based on a book coming this Febuary from Tor publishing, the number 1 sci-fi/fantasy publisher in the world. My brother is the author. The book is over 1800 pages long, that's right 1.800 pages long. It will be in 2 parts.

I'll give details soon enough, just don't tempt me now, you have no idea how much I want to spill the beans on tons of things about both the book and the movie.Enough of campy or cheesey movies, stories, just wait till you see it, I'm very proud of it and so are the big wigs in the industry, all be it for different reasons, mine is the art and passion, publishers for the most part is the "MONEY". I'll scoop anyone interested in due time, I promise.

Orchid is a industry secret for the most part. I have had a really good look at it behind closed doors at E3. It's only coming in Fall 2002, but what they have already up and running is astoundingly great.

It's a 3RD person act?adv platformer, my favorite type genre. It's world is similar in a way to Oddworld, different but original in the same way. The characters/creatures have highend polys of 10-15 thousand in total, with the landscapes and architecture also having highend texture work and detailed props. Lighting, effects, all extras in the eye candy department are covered, the sky and waters in the game are breathtaking. From booming thunderous skies to aqua marine ones to alien skyscapes to well just the best looking all around game I've ever seen.

The gameplay will be every MO lovers dream as well. The team behind the up-coming Malice are behind this beauty as well.

I'll be going to the TGS in Japan in a couple weeks for a couple days. I'll get some more updates on those top notch titles then, including Orchid.

All I can say about it is just picture Munch and Abe running and hopping along with the Matrix type characters caught in between, you get fun type characters mixed in with deep and dark types, a real mix but it works well. It's deep and dark but at the same time a beautiful place at times, other times are surreal and ethereal. The game has no boundaries, it is open ended much like EGO will be. Quests are the theme and major exploration is the main point. It's supposed to be a massive game in both size and length of playing time. I' ll get more info, and I'll let you in on it.

By the way keep these titles in mind: Heavens beast, and 24 Automatons. These along with Orchid, Panzer Dragoon X, and EGO, along with MO are my most anticipated titles. Just keep them in mind, you will love them too eventually.
