Gamecube: Threat or Joke

Does the 'cube stand a chance against XBOX? Seriously, it is graphicly superior to the Ps2, and nintendo has a pretty big fan base. The pitfalls XBOX wups its ass power wise Nintendo is notorious for teensy game libraries, pathetic lack of decent fighters and only having one good FPS, and producing babyish titles while resting on its laurels of al ready successful titles and series. Case in point: Name a groundbreaking game for the gamecube. But it Is cheaper to the tune of a benjamin compared to the 'box and it has a load of supremely popular series games. Is the Cube cause for concern or a good laugh?

*is getting quite fed up with all the console bashing*

[rant]Yes yes I know everyone is entitled to their opinion...and yes I am a diehard Nintendo fan. But this constant debate over which console will beat the snot out of the others is getting on my nerves.
Sure the X-Box has better stats, sure Nintendo focuses on kiddie games (and there is nothing wrong with that in my opinion), etc etc.
But that in on itself does not decide which console is the best. Its the people that decide that, once all the new consoles are on the market.
In truth none may outdo the other...each may very well develop its own seperate fan base. There will be the diehards that stick to the console they love and the what I call 'neutrals' who get a combo of either the GC, X-Box, and PS2 (or all of them if they can afford it.)
Me...while I consider myself a diehard in the case of Nintendo, I tend to be more open minded and I currently have a PS2 (right next to my N64 FYI). I did have a Sega long time ago...but I lost faith in them...(and you know what happened to Sega...).
You must remember that Microsoft is taking a bold leap into an already well established gaming market. Whether or not the X-Box succeeds is unknown and that like I said before depends on the people.
And I have stated it before...currently there are not enough games that interest me that will be coming out on the X-box that warrents me buying one. Even if their were I wouldn't be buying one right away...rather I would wait a few months after release to see how it does (and for the price to drop a bit). After all...it makes no sense to buy a system that may end up going belly up now is it?
Flame me for this if you want...but I'll that I just stated is my opinion...and I have a right to it.
[/rant]

Oh and as for the question this topic askes...I think the GC has a very good chance agains the 'box, thank you very much.

Define "Threat". If you mean Gamecube will do better in sales, maybe. But do you mean Gamecube will knock Xbox around soooo much that Microsoft doesn't continue supporting it? Definetly not. That is one afvantage to having a monoply backing your console, is MICROSOFT WILL NOT GO UNDER!!! No matter what happens they'll still be going strong (even if they have to slim down to 20 billion a week ) So threat? No. Competitor? Yes. I know a freind of mine is getting Gamecube, and it is mainly for the low price (he also thought the Xbox could play computer games, so I'm not saying he's always rightly informed). I don't think he knows/cares about the difference in graphics, but even he'll admit that Xbox has a better selection of games. But I ask of this Gamecube fans...Nintendo is famous for price hiking of popular games (I remember one N64 game going for around $90), so you could spend that extra $100 on getting a better system, or buying a game (the author of this post apoligizes towards the angry tone towards gamecube. I still think its gonna be a nice system (Super Smash Bros. Melee!), I just I think Xbox will be superior))

alright. time for my rant. sure, nintendo has a big fan-base. but, wouldnt you rather want a system that supports good gameplay and graphics over making another big buck on selling games to 5 year olds? oh sure nintendo is a veteran when it comes to video games, but in the past we have seen evidence that a rookie can do well e.g. playstation. besides, why would a company that is already cornering the market in great software want to make a gaming console other than make gamers happy? microsoft has already made thousands of games for pc. comparedto what the already make, xbox would be a fraction of their income. my opinion, yes gamecube is a competitor. but it does not support the fans as much. xbox has a large list of fansites on their site in big, noticable font. at nintendos site, the links are tiny and you can barely read them. xbox obviously wants to support fans. weve seen evidence that it definately has fans. and it hasa power. and it will keep hitting us with good games. weve also seen that nintendo is very secretive with the gamecube. and sure itll be a lower price. but id rather spend the extra $100 to get better quality. gamecube isnt a threat but it is definately a competitor. it is nothing ot "laugh at" as of yet.

I hope the X - box will not be a succes. To sell the games, they must then convert them to other consoles and PC. MO for PC would be great!

'cube: Luigi's Mansion, Monkey Ball, can't think of any more...

BTW: does the GC have a HD or a DVD player? or even the poly-pushing power???

GC's to small to have dvd or CD ripping. I heard somewhere they were thinking of making a big gamecube that can read DVDs, but not for a while...Besides, that's one of the main points that GC has on Xbox. GC weighs like, less than a pound. Xbox ways what, 8ish?

well xbox is about the size of a VCR so it must be pretty heavy compared to GameCube.
