FANGAME: Escape from SoulStorm Brewery

I thought I'd mention this once I've almost finished it so you guys don't have to wait ages for a fangame announced months ago.

For the moment, I'm stopping progress on the text-adventure game for this new puzzle game thing.

Features I will include in version 0.0.0.1:
+ 16 Premade levels to play.
+ Ability to create and use your own texture pack.
+ Playing custom made maps.
+ A utility to create your maps.
+ Auto updating utility.
+ Chips Challenge style gameplay.

For the moment, here's a screenshot of the map builder:


I just need to finish the save command of the map maker, create 16 maps and finish the main level screen in the actual game executable.

Looking good, but somewhat generic... Apart from the name and the hazard-like doors, it doesn't seem to resemble Oddworld very much from the screen you posted... Just putting that out there.

I'm still adding tiles to the list at the moment. I've yet to add the exit door. :P

Looks nice, although IMO the walls and floors look a bit similar. There are also no sligs, slogs, paramites or scrabs to be seen. Apart from that good work!

I've added sligs now, slogs I'm doing now. I want to add Paramites and Scrabs but I can't think of a unique behavior for them. Otherwise they'll just be a retextured slog. :/

Paramites and Scrabs both appear in Secret Ares of Soulstorm Brewery such as Soulstorm Kennels. :P

Got some ideas for tiles:


===SLIG GUARD===
If you run over a slig guard tile, you lose all your inventory.

===PARAMITE===
Can't pass unless you have a piece of meat in your inventory.

===SLOG===
Can't pass unless you have a bone in your inventory.

===LAND MINE===
Can't pass unless you have a SoulStorm Brew in your inventory (taken from the explosive farts mechanism from AE).

Still working on the tile editor and sprites.

I said already it's a puzzle game like Chip's Challenge, so yes, no NPCs. That wouldn't make sense.

I agree with this, but well done anyway.
Which is why I'm adding sligs, paramites, soulstorm brew machines etc. That was a test shot after I'd finished the map building element. I only have to write in a bit of code for a new tile.

Well, I'm not too good at making sprites so if anyone else wants to make a better looking Abe in 32x32 resolution then they can.

I've made a storyboard system as well, so that blue message box pops up whenever you search something and if you talk to something else the message box changes colour and into their speech. Easy on me since I've made a function inside of it to spawn the textboxes.
