In light of these challenging times, I want to wish everyone good fortune in this New Year of 2009! 2008 was a very full year of work for me which distracted me quite a bit from the outside world... including this website. Having recently relocated from the San Francisco Bay Area to Honolulu Hawaii, I intend to find a bit more balance with the natural world and to communicate more with the human world. Here goes: Just to catch up, early in 2008, I worked on preproduction art for the forthcoming Heavy Metal Animated film to be animated by Blur studios and produced by David Fincher (one of my favorite directors). As is often the case with Hollywood, production and funding on the film has been riding a rollercoaster, so we'll just have to wait and see where the project goes in 2009. In the latter half of 2008 I had a considerable showing of pieces in the EXPOSÉ 6 annual from Ballistic Publishing as well as a piece in the SPECTRUM 15 annual from Underwood Books. Also, I created a fair number of pieces for the Shards of Alara set for Magic: The Gathering. For those who don't collect the card game, my art is quite prevalent throughout the companion book A Planeswalker's Guide to Alara: A Magic: The Gathering Field Guide, including the cover. Many incredible artists toil away to create the expansive, imaginative world of Magic and I'm proud to be among them. More to come on that later. Lastly for this update, I want to mention a couple profiles of my work that will be released in the coming months. First, I will be featured on the cover of upcoming issue #40 of ImagineFX magazine with a tutorial on creature design. Secondly, I'll be featured with another tutorial in the first edition of the Art Squared digital painting annual. No new updates to my gallery this time, but I have a considerable backlog of images I created in the last year that I can't wait to show... as soon as get them all organized. In the meantime, here are a couple blog links to get a taste - Blog1 - Blog2. With upcoming work in books, films, comics, cards, prints and perhaps an illustrated novel, this year will be another full and, hopefully, fruitful one. I'll be back sooner than last time... promise!
