Who likes SOBE?

What was the point of putting sobe in MO? They r gonna make enough dough of the game, they dont need advertising. anyway, the sobe vendo is just like the health vendo, i think oddworld rocks but the sobe idea was just stupid.

Sobe had a contest 30 day xbox give away (they gave 30 xboxes away 1 each day for a month) i guess its cross advertising.

OWI put SoBe in the game because they were promoting MO with the "SoBe Love Bus Tour." Plus, SoBe has many of the same goals that OWI has when it comes to Environmental issues. I, persoanlly, don't see a problem with SoBe being in the game.

OWI, of course, recieved no money from SoBe. However, a human product does seem to take away the odd in oddworld. However, it would be cool to see a earth-friendly SoBe factory run by Muds!

I love the SoBe drink in real life. In fact, I just finished a nummy-yummy Energy! I feel revitalized! I shouldn't though, as SoBe is a placebo. The amount of herbs in one drink is about equal to 2 grains of salt... if I did my conversions correctly...

Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*No, I'm afraid that those of you who believe that OWI was paid to put to Sobe vending machines in the game are mistaken. It was a cross promotion type of deal. Miss McKenna is all about health and Sobe is something she believes in. Sobe likes Oddworld and their mission, and helped Oddworld to promote their game before it was officially launched. It's really that simple; many thanks to those here who are helping the new members to understand this.

Sobe, should not be in Munch's Oddysee...what a good way to break the immersion of being in oddworld, then to come across a 'sobe' vendo from real life....you guys don't be afraid to admit to not liking something in the game, it makes you no less of a fan. If OWI was using the same moto from the original Oddworld, Sobe, and Spooce whould not be in the game..some of our opinions need to be said so OWI can make the game better the next time for the fans who bought the game in the first place....

I honestly don't care about Sobe or that OWI put it in a game. I'm fairly new to Oddworld, and it's unlikely that I'm going to be able to play MO, so I can't say that the presence of Sobe would break the spell and ruin the game for me. Product placement happens in movies all the time, and to some extent it seems like a typical Oddworld irony to insert some "relic" of the real world into the Oddworld universe.

Having said that, I have noticed that several members have taken great pains to point out that OWI got no actual money for putting Sobe in the game. I fail to see the difference between getting money for it and getting promotion for MO that it would otherwise have had to pay for. If putting Sobe in the game is seen as something less than desirable, getting "just" promotion rather than money isn't going to make having done it any more palatable to those who are pissed off about it.

Personally, I would have gone with Ben & Jerry's ice cream. They are very environmentally conscious and give away 1 percent of their profits. And I'll bet Coffee Heath Bar Crunch tastes a hell of a lot better than Sobe.

I think spooce and resurection totems already handled the "immersion' problem. I had an appiffany the other day while looking through my Oddworld Prima Guide...

I thought that there was a lot more violence and everything was different, but then I remembered what the name of the game was: MUNCH'S Oddysee! This is a brand new game in the series and we should expect change. As for SoBe, I like the drinks IRL and I don't mind them being in the game (no really I don't, if it was possible I'd still take them out, but since they are there I don't see the point in complaining)

I'm sure from the outcry of "angry" fans that there probably won't be anymore of this type of crosspromotion.

I agree with Eibu's comment about the Spooce. MO seems to be going out of its way to remind us that it is just a computer game, and that Oddworld isn't real... Since I had never heard of Sobe before I came here, I really don't see it as a problem - to non-Americans, Sobe is as Alien as Glukkons...

Â*Â*Â*Â*Â*Whether or not OWI received any money does make a difference; a very important one! When some first heard about this, they jumped to the conclusion that Mr. Lanning "sold out." It is very important that everyone knows that he did not.

It doesn't make a difference because OWI received something of value in exchange for putting Sobe in the game. Whether it's money or something that usually costs money makes no difference. It's still "selling out." The only way its not selling out is if they do it out of their sincere appreciation for whatever Sobe has to offer and don't take anything in exchange.

Please note that I didn't use that term. OWI has every right to optimize its financial situation by whatever means it has at its disposal, such as, for example, having the leverage of being selected by Microsoft as an XBox exclusive launch title. But if Oddworldians are pissed off because OWI sold out, they're not wrong.

They didn't sell out, OWI simply wanted more people to play the game than there aleady was.

To do this as you already know was to advertise with SoBe. Quite simply OWI could of just outrightly paid SoBe and be done with it.

But, OWI just put in Vendos displaying the logo, big deal, the SoBe logo looks great. It isn't spoiling the game at all. And OWI recieved no money from SoBe as neither did SoBe, it was cross-advertisement.

Anyway, for OWI to enhance there games to make better ones, then they need money to do that. Quite simply if OWI didn't have enough money then probably the games would not be of the quality that they are.

Every business needs money to survive, take charities for example they are doing good to humanity. But in order to do these things they need money.

Also note that the deal that OWI and SoBe had is not in anyway different to having Oddworld Advertisements appear on your television.

If you would read a little more carefully, you would see that I agree with almost everything you've said about the arrangement and OWI's right to enter into it, except for what it should be called. And it wasn't me who accused them of selling out. All I'm saying is that people who don't like the idea don't care if OWI got money or something else of value; to them, they sold out.

I find this hard to believe, because switching to Xbox immediatly eliminated millions of people who already had a PS2...

and if Sobe was such a good addition to the game, no one would complain about it. I can see one or two fans not liking it, but not when you have this many..it can't be right..

If OWI really wanted more people to play the game they would have done Multi-platform. YOU are a FAN you can't like everything in the game, if we don't say something about the things we dislike, the next game might have MICROSOFT, PEPSI, SOBE, and POP MUSIC in it, completely destroying what was left of ODDWORLDS oringinal atmosphere...

I'm not perfect, and i do have my dislikes about MO.

Its sad that they took out alot of stuff that was originally in it, Meetles, Mugs etc.

But OWI also said that to make Oddworld seem more real and to make it better they had to move to the Xbox.

Its their choice i stand by it, not just because i'm a fan she was in a Luzozade ad. There is no difference, to say that when a company advertises whether it be with another company or by itself, to say they sold out is wrong.

Having SoBe vendos in the game don't spoil it, it would spoil it if there were 1000 of them then its over-commercialism but there are only a few, so i don't mind it much.

OWI didn't sell out, they did what every company that wishes to survive in this world had to do, advertise!
