Zulag 2 and 3 just a 'filler'?

People say that Zulags 2 and 3 in RuptureFarms are just a 'filler', and are not necessary.

Of course, I disagree with this, and think that without Zulags 2 and 3 RuptureFarms II would be far too short and not feel like you are actually trying hard to find the core of RuptureFarms and destroy the factory.

Also, it shows the sheer size of RuptureFarms better. In the opening scene, RuptureFarms is portrayed to be massive, it wouldn't seem like this without playing through Zulags 2 and 3.

Does anyone else have an opinion on this?

No, it's not filler. The story is, Abe returns to RuptureFarms to rescue all the slaves. This involves sneaking about the factory because they're unlikely to all be in one location. In gameplay terms, there are still puzzles to solve. It's not like the native tunnel between Last Legs and Sekto Springs Dam, which is very pretty, atmospheric, says quite a bit about the Grubbs, and might serve to allow the game to fully load the huge dam exterior environment, but ultimately provides no gameplay other than "just keep going, just keep going, further, further."

That tunnel was one of my favorite parts of the game. It gives you a feel of just how expansive the game is. I really like it.

Yeah, good point, I agree.

Don't you find it annoying when people call it a 'filler' though? My brother thinks that it is a 'filler'.

I think its just because those levels are quite repetitive, I feel the same for Exoddus with the Scrab/Paramite vaults. I just feel it could have been done better than "Go in room X, pull X amount of switches" go in Zulag X and do the same etc.

Compared to the first part of rupture farms or paramoina its like you're traving aross a pretty landscape making your way through oddworld

If you took the 'filler' out of all video games, 99% of them would be half an hour long.

Yeah, I think that Zulags 2 and 3 should've been combined to make Zulag 3 only. Zulag 2 should've been made more like Zulags 1 and 4. This would make RuptureFarms II less repetitive with it being also longer and harder.

This is one reason why I really want a path editor, so I can make Zulags 2 and 3 into what they should be.

The native tunnel mentioned above, presumably yet confoundingly.

One of the best things in games is where you go back to where the game begun and say to your self "I remeber this!" AO was no diffrent.

Yeah, like when you return to RuptureFarms and free the mudokon to turn off the electric field. Then think: 'Oh yeah! This is why this bit was here!'
