Fangus Klot article in the new GI.

Just got the new GameInformer and there is an article on Fangus Klot in the back. It talks about how the game came up and why it was canceled. They were inspired by alot of Cold War cities in Russia, that acted like prisons. The people in them had little rights. Fangus would essentially be living in one of these being oppressed by a new government. They would take his kind in labs and would make them fight for entertainment. Fangus fought back, Ill post more as I read and try to get scans.

I wonder why they made a Fangus article... Maybe because they know that this year OWI returns! I'm sure of Oddworld at E3 after this.

No, at the end of the article Lorne said that they plan on doing their titles on digital distribution because of the success they had on Steam. When asked if they would return to Fangus, the answer was no. They don't want to make $60 games anymore, they said lisencing it out to a trusted dev was not out of the question though. They want to make rich mythos, but in games that don't cost too much for the consumer. Their old games aren't the way they are doing it anymore.

As for Fangus, it started with the team wanting to make a more traditional shooter on the Stranger engine. As time went on though, the designs became far less Oddworld. Alot of the artwork in the article shows this, and they compred them to bald humans. The company became spilt on whether to keep it Oddworld or not. And we know a short time after that, they pursued the movie industry. Here is the story in short, directly from the article:

A sheepherder named Fangus who was enslaved after his land was seized by an invading government. After years of brutal gladiatorial combat, he escaped a much colder and angier beast. The game detailed his pursuit to seek vengeance on his captors and lead a revolt. Though he had to work fast as rabies slowoly consumed his body.

Never heard of this Fangus game before. It was supposed to be the next oddworld game? I thought they shut down immediately after the release of Stranger, had no idea they were even working on something else.

I think you're not seeing the big picture. It looks like Oddworld may be headed towards the digital distribution market instead. WiiWare here we come

It doesn't necessarily mean they will turn to WiiWare. I think OWI would rather go for the the 360, PS3 and PC. They have worked most with those consoles previously, and they offer a lot more than the Wii does.

Okay, I just read the article., and even though it was nice to hear something from OWI, I'm pissed off. No more story games? They have to be joking. If they feel it's unfair when someone spends $60 on a game, why don't have demos? A small demo can be for free, a larger one for $10, an even larger one for $15, and the full game for $60.

A small demo can be for free, a larger one for $10, an even larger one for $15, and the full game for $60.
If you have to pay for a larger demo you might as well pay for the full game. why pay for a larger demo when you can just pay full price to play the full game. and honestly $10 for a demo, that's way overpriced.

Experience with a console doesn't mean a lot to professional games companies who can pick and choose. Look how quickly they ditched PS1 and Xbox .

OWI were originally going to release MO and SW on PS2, but it was cancelled because of the PS2's hardware, so they went over to the Xbox because it offered them a lot more. And to be honest, the Wii is a bit... eh. Sure it has the controls and all, but everything else is a bit naff. I'd absolutely love the next Quintology title to be free-roaming. OWI could make it so beautiful. Then maybe a bonus/spinoff to go on the DS, Wii and PSP.
