The Pope

What do you guys think about the Pope and/or religion as a whole?

Any remarks, or ideas, I was just wondering.

John Paul II was the most famous person from Poland, it's a shame to that he's gone. Am I not the only one who thinks this new Pope looks a bit like the Emperor from the Star Wars films? (Or like any Darth Lord in general?).

Religion is both a gift and a curse. I believe in the morals of christianity, but not of the extremist viewpoints of what they want people want to do with their lives.

Religion has good morals, but is quite hippacritical, and contradicts itself quite a bit, especially Christianity.

However it can and does help millions around the world, so I don't really have a problem with it.

Religion has good morals: Leaving grammar issues out of this, I am still confused as to what would make a person say this. The vast majority of religious texts are filled to the brim with people and deities making decisions that are at the best of times uplifting, most of the time morally ambiguous, and at the worst of times down right deplorable.

In other words: Just like normal society.

I'd like to dispute that. Wars have been caused by it. Terrorists attacks are based on it a lot. It has probably killed more than it's saved.

In the entire history of religion OddjobAbe?

I'll rephrase what I said - Most of the time religion has good morals, the uplifting idea of the religious texts can be a saving grace for someone who needs it, and it is in these circumstances that I think religion can be good for SOME people.

I like the way you approached what I said though - it made me think for quite some time!

It has definitely caused more distress than good. Terrorism and war doesn't just affect just the "primary victims", you know. Their are families and friends of them that are very upset by such injuries/deaths.

Indirectly then it probably has.
But directly I don't think so. I just assumed that you meant directly because you didn't elaborate. Never mind. Any other views on Religion people?

I still don't understand OANST's post

I think the Pope is really gay and a part of the said cabal that Nate mentioned in the god hates fags thread.

Look at this fabulous pink cowboy hat he's chosen

Theres an important difference between fanatics and worshippers. If there were no fanatics then we wouldn't be having this discussion. Everyone would just be cool with everyone else and there wouldn't be any problems with each other.

But there are fanatics which is why we are having this conversation. But it would be much better without them, as they are the source of most of the religious troubles which occur on earth.

I think fanatics are some of the most insecure people on earth. They cling to their beliefs and what in my opinion gives permission to allow themselves to be controlled and can be downright rabid when confronted.

Case in point: take any individual who feels insecure, whether its about themselves or a situation they're in. They look for security in something outside of themselves so when questioned or even backed into a corner... watch them strike when they feel there are no other options because it's the only semblance of security they have. Call it brainwashing, I call it taking advantage of the scared and ignorant.

Fun fact:
It's sometimes better to formulate your own personal belief system by picking apart the things that resound with you from other belief systems and integrating them into your lifestyle.

I very wise grammatically incorrect person told me this last night.

Religion causes for some people pain, and for some people good.
But in my eyes the bad outshine the good(Wars, prejudice, hate)....

Also to me, religion makes no sense, is illogical and I'd rather believe in Santa.

Edit: And screw grammar!
