The fate of the world...The US Election.

It's starting.

So, who's your bet for leader of Team America World Police this time?

Barmy Obama, although I have serious reservations about whether he'll actually get in or not.

Obama, curious to see what happens if he gets it though.
With Mcain, I don't see too much happening.

Obama is way ahead, I think his only chance of losing is either unscrupulous acts (Republican election officials have already been criticised for opening fewer polling stations in black-majority communities), or if a wave of right-wing C.H.U.D.s emerge from the sewers to exercise their right to vote in all the contested states.

I resent the use of "right wing". I myself am right wing, yet Im backing Obama. You dont have to be right wing or left wing to get voted for/vote for someone in my opinion, its simply about the policies. And Id much rather see Obama as President than McCain.

To be fair, I don't think it's going to be the left wingers who will be attempting to stop people from voting. Far right wing might be a better description, though.

Obama's got it in the pocket me-thinks. Unless the entire USA gets cold feet when they're in the voting booth, or they rig the elections, or Obama gets sniped, we should be looking at a good 8 years.

Your objection is moot, because these are C.H.U.D.s we're talking about.

Woo Hoo!

I am amazed at how utterly happy I was when the news came across. I was absolutely enamored with the result.

I see this going the same way as the Kennedy election- with someone so youthful and 'new' in office, I really hope that we'll start seeing more young people getting involved in government..... we need this! I just think this is amazing and hope we see great things. I know I'm going to be much more interested in national issues with someone I identify with in office representing me rather than some old fart.

Yay!

Yes, we could do without the grim result of that administration... but the buzz I feel in the air is beyond explanation. I'm genuinely filled with joy I've never felt. I think with people getting back involved with their government, especially young people.... getting involved because they care after so many years of apathy that's gotten the 'cronies' of the past into office, we can really get things straightened out here, which we need so badly.

Keeping promises depends on us as US citizens. The president represents us as citizens, not his own interests, and this is what's been lacking for the past half century... our own apathy and naivety of expecting our president to 'take care of things' has gotten way out of control, and it's our own fault. This is just what we need.

**EDIT**
:
Yay Obama! Congrats America! Congrats world!

I would have been devastated if McCain had gotten the vote.

Contary to popular belief, one man can change the world, he just has to be US president.

I am so incredibly thrilled that Barack won the election and that my vote (even though I'm in Illinois) mattered, especially since this was the first election I could vote in. I knew since he was elected to Congress he would do great things, but 2 years ago when I met him and heard him speak (way before he even announced he was running) I knew for sure he would be elected and I've supported him fully since then. I think its totally fitting this was a landslide victory and I'm very proud to be an American today and that the nation made the right choice. This will indeed be a day long remembered. I'm also pleased my prediction was right! lol

This is the photo from that day that will be with me forever

October 3rd, 2006 Me and the Senator turned President Obama

Huzzah for all you Americans! I know how you feel; I felt that way last November. Only moreso, because you've only had Bush for 8 years; we had Howard for 13 years.

But the differance is Howard took orders from Bush.
And George Bush only listens to George Bush (AKA his daddy).

That and no one knows who the hell our prime minister exists, let alone where Australia is.
It will be interesting to see the relationship with Rudd and Obama. If there is one.

I imagine there will be a stronger relationship between Prime Minister Rudd and President Obama. Rudd seemed to shy away from too much spotlight with Bush - understandably. The common feel in Australia (at least from what I've experienced) is that we supported Obama more so.

So it would make sense for Rudd to be seen supporting Obama as there are key issues they both support, as opposed to what Bush stood for.

I was incredibly relieved to wake up this afternoon and see Obama's face all over my homepage.

This is a great victory. But that does not mean we should be uncritical supporters.
