This is a super interview. Lorne stops talking about financing and technology and addressing something he hasn’t done in an interview in a long time: design.

He talks about the emotional extremity of characters that isn’t being seen in a lot of CGI animation because of a focus on photorealism that technology isn’t yet capable of meeting, and compares this to Hollywood’s attention on big name stars, thinking about how years ago, especially in Sergio Leone’s spaghetti westerns, you would get a grizzled, ugly cast that really looked as though they belonged in that world. The way I read what he said, the characters of Citizen Siege will have exaggerated facial expressions like manga‐style animation.

He gives just a few hints about OWI’s upcoming projucts. CS apparently takes place in a future LA that, because nobody can afford ‘gas at 200 bucks a gallon’ (I’m trying to convert this into British language, measurements, and prices), has become more like old, bicycle‐dependent Shanghai. The machinima TV miniseries is done ‘with some pretty exciting partners’. Improvements in CGI will now allow Sligs to have pigs’ hair!

And, oh yes, this has now been reported on OddBlog.

Love it. Love this interview. Once again Lorne’s observations intrigue and inspire. Thanks, Xav.
