So what is up with this? Let me say upfront that (as plenty already know) I have absolutely nothing against gay people. But I do have a small grudge against this whole 'gay pride' and 'proud to be gay' thing. What is it good for? I'm not seeing black people run around being 'proud to be black' and women running around being 'proud to be a woman'. Yet both those groups were just as oppressed.

Yes but those two groups fought their way out of oppression by being proud and fighting for their rights too!

Yes, but women didn't dye their hair blond, got a boob job and then went onto the street pretending to be stupid while holding up a sign they wanted to be able to vote. Nor did blacks put red lipstick on, acted like monkeys to generally make people think they were some kind of inferior human species and make people sick by coughing on them. The two groups mentioned above proved that the view society had of them was wrong. Women proved to the world that they were smart enough to have a say in things. That they could be undependant and were more then mere 'housewifes'. In the same way, blacks proved to society that they were not inferior and were human just like the rest of us and that you couldn't get a decease from them. How did they do that? By acting normal and letting people see for them selfs that their views are wrong which brings me to my point:

90% of the homosexuals are complaining and bitching about how they want equal rights and don't want to be seen by society as freaks. SO! To make their point they organize parades in major cities in which they dress up in tight leather outfits, put makeup on their face while they dance half naked on a parade vehicle. Like this is somehow going to convince everyone on the streets watching this parade that gay people are no freaks at all, they are perfectly normal human beings just like everyone else and that the view society has of them (faggoty leather wearing half naked dancing around ****ing everything that moves) is COMPLETELY wrong. Oh no wait, all you're doing is confirm that view! All you're doing is make a point to people that being gay is all about tight leather suits and lots of shopping for sex toys. WTF ARE YOU DOING YOU STUPID IDIOTS!!!

Every single gay person taking part in a Gay Pride parade is the biggest kind of hypocrite you can imagine. You're complaining about the view people have about you but in the mean while you're confirming the view people have about you. And this by itself would not even be that bad, since it would just make you an idiot. The problem is that you're setting a standard for the entire gay community, also for the people who DO act normal in every day life. And you know the reason these people can't be happy with who they are? Because they have to hide it from the world in fear of being compared to the idiots taking part in a gay pride parade.

You want homosexuality to be accepted just like women and blacks have? Then stop acting like a total mental retard and stop your actions and try behaving like a normal person dressed in normal clothing.

I completely agree with you. If gays want to be viewed as equals, why do they insist upon overstating the fact that they're gay? We get it. Really, we do. It really annoys me when a group of individuals, like for example, the blacks, insist upon being viewed as equals, and then do something to seperate themselves from the group (which in their case, is very often). People should make up their minds about what they want.

Gay pride is retarded. It's like having a "I'm proud I have a natural liking for Cheez Wiz!" brigade. It's inborn, and thus, it's stupid to be proud of something purely acquired by luck.

Well I think they should be proud to be gay but not to a stupid extent, Im proud to be female but I dont rant on about equality and so on, even though there is a lot of inequality in this world. So I kinda agree with Patrick on this.

I quite agree; I don't feel proud to be gay because it's not something that I chose. It would be like celebrating "Brunette Pride" or "Right-Handed Pride". My one objection is that you're acting like ALL gay people dress in drag or act camp. It's an incredibly small minority who parades themselves like that. Most just want to live their lives like everyone else.

That said; I can understand the mentality of the paraders. Many of them come from backgrounds where being gay is a shameful thing (for instance; just about any high school). So they want to be able to stand up and express themselves and not have to hide their sexuality any more.

If you want to be regarded as a normal part of daily life, act normal then, don't go around doing what should be kept confined to the bedroom in the middle of the street. Everyone has their kinks, but you don't tell us and show us them in the middle of the public eye, do you? Priests are probably in fear of gay marriages incase they get raped or something at the ceremony, because that appears to be all that gays do in the public eye. The small minority has brought it upon themselves and everyone else who is gay.

We also come to the point as to why lesbians seem to be regarded as worse than gays generally. Why is that?

I'm a woman. 2 of my best friends are lesbians. I don't get angry when they kiss in public, infront of guys or not. Do you get angry when 2 gay men kiss infront of women?

I'm all for expressing yourself, individuality & all that crap but I'd have to agree about how alot of homosexual people go about it. Now the majority of people assume gay people are all a stereotype.

And frankly, your opinion about gay people being stereotyped because of the outfit they wear, or how they act, is a bit off, since they're protesting to be accepted, for MORAL reasons. Eg: "Gay people go to hell", "Homosexuality is a disease!" THAT'S what they're protesting for, and NOT to make sure they can wear whatever they want!

And about the flashy clothe style: You see that everywhere.

Carnaval? Hells Angels who dress all the same? Goths anyone? Anyone forgetting all the bling-bling-madness?

There's the gay people, and the "gay" gay people, gay people who are just normal persons like you and me (well, relative to how you define normal), like Nate, and the flashy "gay" gay people who attend at such "meetings"

But you have that with other things too. There's very flashy goths, who wear, well you know, and there's the less flashy ones. Etc, etc, etc.

Yea but I'm not parading my sexuality around on the forum. I make an occasional joke about it and even then only when other people start about it. So I don't see how you can be comparing it with what I wrote in the post.

Nate: Yea good for them, but do they have to do it in a way where they hurt the rest of the community? The point I was making is that they are confirming a stereotype that makes people hate gay people in the first place. The way the parade is done defeats the entire purpose of the parade.

Also, anyone thinking I'm a hypocrite. What WOULD be hypocritical is when I'd say gay people are weird, not normal and sick. I'm just pissed about the stupid gay priders fighting for a good cause just as I would be pissed at a guy who ties a dog down and forces it into sex and calling it zoophilia for the entire world to hear. It confirms a stereotype which does NOT need to be confirmed in any way so people need to stop doing it.

I never start the joke. 9 out of 10 times it's provoked by someone else so don't blame me. I'm open about it around here but I am specifically careful not to parade about it. When it's brought up it's usually by someone else or when the topic is involved with it somehow.

Well, as Looney-Bin stated, I don't really care as long as they don't force me to endure it. Which they aren't so...

And if people want to show their sexuality, they shouldn't run around in stereotypical "gay" outfits.
However, I have never seen one of the said parades so I don't really know what they wear or what they do.
