Idea remake ALL oddworld games?

i want to know if anyone feals the same, Do you think that the oddworld team should remake ALL the oddworld games when they are all out?. what promted this was i own AO and AE but my plastation is nackerd and i still wanna play them i think they should put them all on xbox or the 360, or better still make a game pack for each console please tell me what you think.

I don't think it would be done, since Lorne likes to do new stuff, so I don't see the point of telling the same stories over again

But they should be made available to play whenever you want, that's true. Anyway AO and AE are on pc, so you don't need to find yourself a ps to play them

Nope, not a good idea, in my opinion. Say they wanted to put Abe's Oddysee and Abe's Exoddus on the Xbox. There would be no way Microsoft would let Oddworld Inhabitants make a game that would be both 2D and for the Xbox. So now they would have to remake them in 3D, and the would simply lose their original charm if that happened.
As cool as it would be to run around in the first two games in 3D with better graphics and such than before, I just don't think they would measure up at all to the originals.

Plus, who's going to do the work to port the games to the modern consoles (or the last two for the PC)? OWI doesn't have a team of programmers any more and it really wouldn't be profitable for them to hire someone to do this at the moment.

We'd all like to see some sort of re-release of them, but it's never gonna happen. Perhaps with the release of Citizen Siege they'll be able to do it somehow, I don't know...
I'd like to see them in 3D, but as Cullen said, it would lose their charm!

Redo MO. Pretty up SW and re-release it. Leave AO and AE the **** alone.

If the Oddworld Quintology gets turned into a series of five feature films, I would not at all be adverse to seeing the fuller stories being expressed in video game form.

Agh, dude...seriously...If they were remade, people would play them and not the originals, and probably never get to know the real Oddworld. I'm OK with MO being remade, seeing as the graphics could use a definite tune-up now that we have the technology to do that, but AO and/or AE in 3D leaves me shuddering with an unknown dread.

I don’t think that’ how it works. Remakes usually expose more people to the original than sap away existing players/listeners/readers/appreciators.

Hm, that's not really what I meant. What I meant to say is, if, say, Abe's Oddysee is released in 3D, everyone (well, perhaps not everyone, but a mighty fraction of gamers) will want to play the 3D version and miss out on the original, i.e. 2D version, which was the one that held the real charm of Oddworld.

It's not really the games being re-made as much as it is the stories being re-told.

So long as they keep the same environments, artwork, and general ambiance.

How can you keep the artwork if it's going to be in 3D?
'Sides, AO won't do well as a 3D game. AE -- meh. I mean, an example is the Scrabanian Temple. All you see in the background is a sort of darkish light, some windows, a couple of statues, and occasionaly some rock structures. It'll just look empty in 3D.

You think? I think that environment in 3D would be quite amazing. But I guess without surgically removing my mental visualizations and allowing you to feed upon them, there’s little I can do to convince you.

I can picture 3D versions of AO and AE on second thought. Version where the artistic flavor of the 2Ds can be applied rightfully.

Obviously it would be the level design artwork...

And even it if is empty, if the scale was there, that's all you'd need.

I would hope that they would be able to work back in the same realism from AO. I mean, so that jumping isn't flea-like and One hit kills. It would be difficult without flick screen and more than two directions of attack, but I think something could be done.

The biggest issue I see is pleasing the fans who point out that the level maps with landmarks and things that they've produced based on the game play don't match. And you know they exist...

I think it would be a really awesome idea to remake the games. They could even do them for the nintendo ds. Wouldn't it be really cool to control moodokons with the stylus?

I say leave all the games alone. They've already been created, and should be left as they are. Remaking them would completely change the feel of that particular game. If anything, as I've said before, they should just create new games after Citizen Siege.

You are for the original jumping and one hit kills, right? Maybe I am misunderstanding you but if I could change on thing about Munch's Oddysee, it would be the ball-curl jumping and and whole bird cirlce life.
I would love to see that game with the original one hit kill, and the awesome jumps, both up and sideways, that they had in the Abe games.

What? So you’re not in favour of the films?

I couldn’t agree more about the jumping. AO and AE had pretty realistic movement physics, which gave gameplay a real plausibility and charm. Jumping in MO was bizarre. SW did it much better, even if it did have double jumping.

/me curses double jumping.

Abe jumped like Sonic in MO... :/ I'd like some shimmying and hanging on to ledges on MO, it would be very realistic, I liked the movements in AO and AE too... I miss them!

Ah, I never said that! Of course I am, but I am also in favor of keeping the original stories how they are. The films may combine or slightly change the stories, but I doubt anything major. And I am fine with that.
Also, Max, about the double jumping, which, by the way I am with you on. Most games have it, and it's rare that you come across a game without it. In most games, it can actually be kind of necessary... so yeah. I know it's unrealistic, but good luck trying to get rid of it.

I strongly suspect that the Oddworld films will contain major changes and additions. The plots in the game just can’t be padded out to feature film length without featuring a hell of a lot of montages of the temple trials. And I’ll looking forward to that. I want to see the full Quintology story in all its intended bredth and complexity.

In cartoon platformers, I’m fine with double jumping, but SW isn’t supposed to be either. It just strikes me as pointless to have a double jump if it’s not some kind of power up. Since Stranger can double jump at any time, why not just make him jump further anyway?

The games themselves are conversions of the plot. The films would be much closer to the original stories, which haven't been told yet.

I agree with Skillya. In AO and AE, they'd have to do some serious changing to the gameplay. They'd need to change the whole outline of the game. It would need to be free roaming, take away any and all backgrounds, so basically if they just put it in 3D without changing the layout, it would be pretty stupid because you'd only be able to move left and right a little bit. And another point I'd like to raise, what about going into backgrounds and possessing creatures in the background? But I do agree that MO could do with a makeover. I've never played SW, so I can't say much there.

I think they should remake AO & AE, although they would lose there charm
we would still have the originals anyway.
Maybey the could change the contrast in MO, and re-realese it, dont you find that every were is so dark?
But other than dat, what so bad about MO?

Unless of course, Artos, you mean re-release them on a 'newer' console, then yes, I would be interested in buying them, as long as they have not changed it (well, maybe sort out some of the known glitches). I think maybe if they got the mnoney together they would release them all on Xbox or Xbox 360.

It's funny of thinking to play AO and AE in a high(er) quality 3D game. But I think it wouldn't really work since OWI need to put their efford in newer projects and AO and AE are the first games of Oddworld. They are so antique, so classic that a change would almost destroy the magic of Oddworld.
It was the first games that made most of us to fans and really, I wouldn't change it.
But the opposite is that it would be very interesting to see the first games in 3D.
