This is a very very awsome game which I need to download sometime again. I used to play the demo and had a lot of fun time with it ^^. Next to the coolness of making animal hybrids, it also has a semi good story line

. At least it's told in a nice way.

How good is it as an RTS? Or is the novelty only in the creature creation?

It actualy does pretty good as an RTS. The objective in multiplayer is to build up a base and use the creatures as your army. And depending on what kind of creatures you make, they have their advantages and disadvantages.

I recommend you play the demo ^^.
