SW sales...

I know Stranger's Wrath sold rather poorly because of the fact that it wasn't advertised (EA), but does anyone know the exact sales figures? Did it break 100,000? I did a search on Google and couldn't find anything. I want to know how well the company previously known as OI is doing on their best game yet.

Just a note: It was advertised. Not well, but a saw a multitude of ads in magazines and such. That's about it, though.

All I remember is that gamespot.com (I believe it was) said that it only got about $20,000 or $40,000 (somewhere in between those two-can't remember which) in sales in its first week (month?) in the US. But darn, I can't find that article anymore. If you could see it for yourself, then my range would be more accurate.

Hey, thanks for that link, atusiya@! Are those the US sales? Man, they're not too great. But at least it's selling well in Europe.

OMG WTF!!!!!!! I knew the sales were bad, but not cracking 100 thousand? EA Games deserves to pay for its whorish practices. You know why the stock is gonna be in a freefall next holiday season? Because they hype the rehashed-to-death sports franchises and let a critically acclaimed game like SW die. Every review was glowing, I've heard so much good press for it, I enjoyed it so thoroughly, and they let it DIE!

Look on the bright side, at least it'll be remembered by the press as one of those games that got great reviews but crap sales.

AS long as the game's not remembered as "You know, that cool game that cost Lanning and all of OWI their jobs. I always wondered how that "Quintology" would finish, anyhow."

Lorne talks through his ass. Or makes up stuff as he goes along.

First: A series of Five games, the quintology.
Reality: Two Quintology games released.

Second: For every quintology game there will be at least one bonus game.
Reality: 2 bonus games, one is nothing to do with quintology.

Third: Munch's oddysee and Strangers Wrath will be on PS2 and XBOX.
Reality: They weren't.

Fourth: Two entire new series announced, Habitales and Faerietales.
Reality: Bollocks.

Fifth: I'm happy with the company they way it is. If it ain't broke don't fix it.
Reality: Fired entire company. Future looks grim.

That's nice at least. Certainly an improvement on how OWI were regarded after Munch.

... they let it DIE!
that's exactly it, EA had an awesome opportunity to make profits and to catapult OWI back at that top, but they didn't.
They are to afraid to try new things. I see ni reason for them to be afraid, they are praticly made of money.

I really thought that Oddworld coulda been huge. I know I said it before, but Mudos is a fantastic concept. It could have been the next Cthulhu Mythos or Star Wars, or Lord of the Rings. Okay, maybe not THAT big, but big none the less. Inspirational and influential to entire genres. It could have been friggin' huge. Its a shame because the whole thing appears to have gone tits up.

I believe at the very least Lorne owes us books explaining Oddworld further. The Oddworld He wanted, I wanted, and every fan of Oddworld wanted. After all the b.s., after all of the hype, after all of the projects that failed to be big and just failed to be. His fans were loyal to him for pretty much a decade, I've followed Oddworld for over half my life. This is the least he owes us and his fans.

we choosed to support him, and he gave us a wonderfull world.

realy I don't see why he should owe us anything because we choosed to support him

I agree with Xav. Lorne only ever owed anything to himself and his ideas, to bring them to life in a way that did them justice.

For all I know, what Nate said could have been the worst possible insult imaginable, but I don't understand it, so I'll respond to Rich in my own way.

You know, it's almost as if Lorne comes up with ideas before actually carrying them through. If his errors were in sharing them with the fans, then the reason it's an error is because of people not cutting him any slack. Give it a rest. OWI is not dying, Lorne's ideas haven't run out, and there are a lot of people very excited at the prospect of working Oddworld into a fresh new medium.

OWI never announced either MO or SW would be on PS2. The first was simply assumed by the entire industry while OWI and Lorne kept trying to tell them they would develop for a different platform if it proved to be better for what they wanted, while the second was announced by EA before they'd bothered to determine whether it was possible or not.

heh. I meant it well.

I just meant that Lorne doesn't owe us anything as I'm sure he cares about his ideas more than we do.

Nate, I definately disagree with you on this. He shares this wonderful thing with us and by bad decisions and a little bad luck he lets it die. I will be the first, the absolute FIRST to recant every bit of "trash talk" I've said about Lanning, if he just cuts the B.S. and starts creating products. He DOES owe us. The fans like you and me who've bought the magazines, and the games and the books and the other sundry products and stuck for OWI and said it was great deserve more than "Oh, Stranger wasn't advertised enough. **** it, let's just disband the company and call it a decade." I've put too much goddamn time and effort into Oddworld to be happy with 2 bonus games(one not munch's Exxodus) and 2 quintology games out of 10 promised games. And I'm especially displeased because Stranger and the ENTIRE FRANCHISE can be so much more than 4 somewhat obscure games in the bargain bin.

Any more news? I'm guessing that it's still selling horribly, but some reassuarance that's it's still selling would be most welcome. Man, if only EA had the friggin' sense to market this game...

I saw SW on a top chart of all genre game, and it had SW on No. 10 of 20, only in one magazine issue months ago. And lego Starwars was at No 1 spot!

There's no doubt it's a popular game to reviewers and magazines and stuff, I know that. I just want to know how it's selling, seeing as how it got a sub-par amount of advertising for the quality of game it is.

The only ad I saw was a two-page advert with an overdosage southern accent.
Sure, there were lots of reviews, but that usually doesn't help much. Even though the ratings were great, it just will not convince many to buy it.

Also, the the number of fans.
Oddworld lost fans when MO came out, did they not? Also, the PS2 plans had to be cancelled, causing a lower chance of high sales. We also have to consider the size of Oddworld's fan basis. How many fans do they have? How many are willing to purchase an X-Box to play their games?

:
Fired entire company.
That was a rumor, and has not been confirmed as of yet.

It's true, it's just Lorne and Sherry now.

The reason MO didn't sell well in europe was that people didn't like playing as a Gabbit, as a one legged creature who walks slowly. And that is why I think Oddworld had more of earthly playble character that people would enjoy playing as. Munch, a great design which took 2 years to create, but it lacked desgne as a playble character. Stranger (the bones) was espeiclly made as a character that people will rather play as.

yes... it's way harder to relate to a fish like Munch then to an humanoid as stranger...

they understood it completely, revealing Stranger's true nature after the player got the time to relate to him. Master Work.

Hate to bump up an old thread, but is there any place where I could find the current sales?

I'm still very much interested. Not hopeful, but interested.
