Why do you think? School is boring as hell, no matter what school you go to. It's not all that shocking.

Not necessarily, subjects such as math, science and foriegn language have failed in terms of teaching information that can be used in real world situations. These classes stop working properly as early as junior high. They become classes of useless knowledge that is only being taught so you can pass the exams. No teacher has been able to explain to me when or why I would ever be calculating log functions, the coefficient of friction, or say "where is the library" in spanish. Of course, if I ever wanted to become an advanced algebra teacher, physics teacher, or spanish teacher, I might find better uses for this crap. I took a survey on the amount of teachers that remembered anything that was taught to them when they took a foriegn language class in school. Not suprisingly, almost all the teachers had little to no knowledge of what they were taught. Ever ask a parent or relative for help with your math homework? I have, and they had no clue, these were very intellegent, successful people mind you. These classes no longer teach anything, they only make you remember things long enough so you can pass the test.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Adults, including my parents mostly agree that loads of the stuff you learn in school is not utilised in later life. For example, would someone walk into a shop and calculate their purchases using algebra? I don't think so. I'm not denying the fact that school is important, just that a lot of what they teach isn't necessarily needed for adult life. Anyway, cutting class isn't that bad. I've done it and it's fairly straightforward to maintain good grades even if you do.

Nobody said you are being wrong to stay at school. But it isn't really that terrible if somebody skips school.... It's his or her own problem

Skipping School is bad!
Although I think you're right Sherrif-Murder, it's more often girls than boys, I'm not being sexist here but girls are always the ones with the incorect uniform, cheaky to the teachers and often the ones who skip school

I'd rather wear my uniform to school, it makes me look smart. well all the boys anyway, the girls have their shirts untucked, Don't have their blazers on, top button undone, Tie is longer or shorter than 9 stripes long, I do actualy think that the head teacher is just farting aroudn with her 'Uniform must be correct' scheme, shirt nto tucked in and it's a detention.

Hmm... i'd just like to say that you can use Maths after you're done with school. Like for example as a programmer, you use alot of maths. And, it widenes your ligical thinking.

ABout the skipping class thing... I feel like skipping class all the time. But the teachers would notice... Well, except when we have this really stupid teacher. When my school-mates say they go to the bathroom, they just go outside doing something else... I don't know why, but if it was me... he'd notice it. Bah, life is weird.

People don't want to look to the long-term future, or they choose to ignore it.
It's more fun that way.

If I want to be a programmer I go to college and learn how to do it. Math, science, and foriegn language is taught so vaguely in the U.S. (damn you SeaRex!), with teachers rushing through the curiculem, covering so many subjects, that it is easily forgotten and its real world applications are never explained. Yes, it does help students and colleges decide if a certain career is right for them, but why waste all that information on a test, when they could also make you learn something in the meantime.

they often waste time/even years on teaching stuff you dont need, when you could use that time so you learn or do more that is more important or needed.

and T-Nex, you are female right?

I agree with a lot of the points made about school.

There are many reasons people skip school:

They find it boring,
Peer pressure,
They need a smoke,
A form of rebellion,
Can't be bothered to get up in the morning,
Haven't done homework,
Are afraid of getting bullied,
Don't like the teachers,
Or even general phobia of school.

I mean the people that i know that skip school usually skip it for the wrong reasons, like they want to hang around with their mates on the street corner for a couple of smokes. Not that bright.

However none the less, I still believe that the education system has been poorly looked after. I don't like the structure of it, it's not exactly modern, and doesn't look at the bigger concepts in live. They make you feel as if you must go to university otherwise you will be a failure. Plus once you have spent fives years or more doing a degree you spend the rest of your life paying off debts. And half the people i know haven't got anywhere with the degree they earnt, they're in Somerfields stacking shelves.

I mean i wouldn't be the person i am today if i had not have gone to school, because I t's all part of growing up. Peer pressure, skipping school, doing subjects you don't like and think are useless. I still feel we could make it better for future generations to come. Not all of us manage to cope with the difficulties in school life and are able to look back on it and laugh.

The education system certainly needs redesigning if you like, and tests don't get me started on how useless they are, are at least the ones that the schools produce.

And perhaps it's because I'm male that i seem to see a lot of girls skipping class, like when you buy a car and notice that same make everywhere you dirve. And girls seem to be more rebellious as well, not tucking in their shirts, having their tie really short, wearing short skirts etc. And the worst thing is a lot of them get away with it.
