Yes, there are birds in oddworld, mudokons turn into them when they die, wheen abe turns into shrykull the birds from a portal flock to him, and you can also see birds in the wild. They're those little white things on the ground that fly away when you get near them. Hope that clears it up!

Hehe, here's something that I've discussed lengthily.

The Oddworld birds appear, at different times, to be swallows, pigeons and doves. Not only that, but you can also here a crow in Scrabania and an owl in the Jungle.

The Mudokons themselves just refer to the birds as 'the birds', as is shown in the good ending to Abe's Oddysee.

Max, how can you tell they're "swallows, pigeons and doves"? They could be herns for all you know. They're all just a bunch of pixels and look exactly the same. I suppose you could tell by the sound roughly what species they are but still, that's very little evidence considering this is Oddworld not Earth and it is very likely that there other other species of birds on Oddworld.

And as for the crow in Scrabania and the owl, this is merely based on sound from a fictional planet we have seen & know very little of. It could be a creature we have never seen before making the "crow" noise.

I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just saying you have far too little evidence to assume yourself right.

Also after you return to Rupture Farms in Abe's Oddysee, there is the writing on the wall saying "Lead us to The Birds"... also showing that Mudokons only refer to them as "the birds".

And again I refer to a quote by Lorne Lanning which I used in a similar post on the subject of birds.

Birds that live on Oddworld have evolved on Oddworld. It's interesting to note that the Mudokon themselves are evolved from birds.

Whereas the birds on Oddworld may look similar to Earth birds like swallows, pigeons and doves... I think that they are an entire different type of bird... a bird that is native to Oddworld (as Lorne says)... but just bears some resemblance to birds of Earth.

There are birds in Paramonia when you walk on them,they fly away. So yeah. Also,bats are kind of birds aren't they?

I wasn't 'wasn't right'. I typed 'appeared', for that's what they did. They appeared to be.

You can, obviously, see the birds more clearly in the movies. In the movies they appear to be swallow-based, while during the game they appear to be dove or pigeon-based.

Yes, okay, those are just noises in the desert and jungle, but Lorne didn't seem concerned when I mentioned them in the same thing that Abe Babe referred to.

Why do you asume that swallows and doves etc. would be extremely unlikely to evolve on Oddworld? A fair enough statement, but there are, after all, bees and bats on Oddworld. Not to mention cockroaches. And fireflies.

No, bats aren't a type of bird. Bats are mammals, which mean they have hair, milky glands and are warm-blooded among other things. Birds don't have hair, they have feathers (mostly), and they lay eggs instead of live animals.

In spite of my above statement that mammals gave birth to live young, there are two very bizarre exceptions. Firstly the duck-billed platypus - a strange looking water-dweller with the bill of a duck, body of a mole, legs of a something else, and a poison sting gland or two. The other is the echidna or spiney anteater. What this actually has to do with bats, I don't know. I why an Oddworld Dictionary should have to say all this boring (yet interesting) Earthly stuff, I've no idea.
