Logical supernatural beings?

Hello!

What is the most logical reason to the supernatural beings existens, such as vampires, werewolf, zombies, daemons and other? There must be some sort of logical explanation. Are they just made up by some bored, anonymous author? Or did they just had a strange, propably unknown disease? I read in a magasine that the scientists believe that Count Dracula actually had rabies. I want to know what YOU belive it's true for you! I'm about to write a story with supernatural beings in it, but I want to explain how they became it and why, in the most logical reason possible, but I need some help!
//

Vampires could be seen as real on two counts -
There is a blood-letting club somewhere in New York.
Vlad the Impaler had a skin disease, which was only kept in check by him having a munch on people.

Zombies are random people, who get ground up Blowfish blown into their face by Witch Doctors. This puts them in a paralytic state, much like that of death. Making their pulse faint and their body temp to drop severely. Upon being buried the Witch Doctor will then dig them up and [i think] give them something to counteract the poison. The person then thinks they have been brought back from the dead, and live in servitude for their remaining days.

I heard something not long back about Werewolves, i can't remember what it is though. I know that one explanation is that they're connected to women. PMT and all.

'Werewolves' suffer from the disease, lycanthropy. This disease makes the sufferer believe they are a wolf and they adopt certain wolf postures and behaviour. They also have the tendancy to grow extra body hair.

I think that supernatural/fantasy-inspired characters to have some sort of truth to them, however I think over the times people have exaggerated their features or stories to what they now are today. That's just what people do when they hand down oral and written traditions.

And maybe they do exist. What do I know...

Demons have been around for as long as people have been superstitious. I think they're probably unenlightened, superstitious attempts to explain a perfectly natural phenomenon. For example, a few people might have had sleep paralysis, hence there was a demon that crouched on a person's chest while they slept and kept them immobile. If we're talking about the same kinds of demons. It's a fairly broad term, and every culture has their own take on them.

It is a cool topic, though. Anyone seen The Mothman Prophecies?

The Mothman Prophecies? Is it a movie?, coz in that case I haven't! It's good that so many have answered, I don't get so many replies, maybe it has something about my short visits on this site but, anyone got something about feeries, unicorns, hydras and other? I believe there's a logical explanation to everything!

Actually Vlad was just a nut-job. But you're right in that many of the vampire legends were based on porphyria, a generic disease in which sufferers don't produce heme, a component of hemoglobin. This makes their skin sensetive so they can't go outside in daylight. Also the only way to treat it in the middle ages was to drink blood.

All information sourced from The Straight Dope on Dracula (plenty of gory stories on Vlad the Impaler's wacky antics in there)

Mermaids are Manatees.

When sailors saw them from above water, they looked like women with fish tails.

You ever listen to Coast to Coast AM with George Noorey?

Well he talks about this stuff all the time. I paticulary like this supernatural creature. It is the Chupacabra.

I doubt this is a genunine photograph but I think they actually exist. There is evidence of them. This of course is definitly fake.

Cthulhu I belive could exist not as a godly being but as described a creature from out of space who has unlocked the secrets of dimensional travel and certian wave lengths that will alow him to "summon" beings from beyond his own exsistance. The Hounds of Tindalos I doubt. Byhakee I do not, mainly because of the fact they're described as dragon like creatures, this might explain the whole dragon thing but then again Byhakee's are only a bit bigger than humans, not the 30ft creatures described in fairy tails.

The Elder Beings that could exsist

Dimensional Shambler
Cthulhu
Dagon
Hastur
Nyralotthep
Tssthouga
Tulzcha
Azathoth (But not as the creator)
Shub-Niggurath
Byhakee
Mi-Go
Dhole

Creatures in General
Chupacabra
Zombies
Vampiric creatures

Zombies in the sense that its a Disease that puts you into a coma, transfered like AIDs and shuts down motor functions to the point of death. You know, that scientific crapshait.

Also that Chupacabra pic is digital... <_< Its amazingly fake.

The Mothman Prophecies is a very strange, very scary, very good movie about a reporter who, following his wife's death, finds himself drawn to a small Midwestern town plagued by sightings of a bizarre supernatural being, a tall humanoid with mothlike wings who warns of impending disaster. That's about the gist of it. It's not like a scare-you-out-of-your-seat type of horror movie, it's more of a creepy, intelligent supernatural horror movie. If you can understand English it's worth looking for.

LOL Sligster. I've always thought the same thing. This just serves to help perpetuate the myth of sailors being gay. Or is it a myth?

I'll let some of the more Internet-knowledgable and myth-savvy people try to answer your questions, Loup. I, too, believe that any apparently supernatural being can be explained using science or historical fact.

This stuff about Vlad is really cool. In this case, I think fact is more interesting than fiction.

I actually heard about what that Davis guy did. And some time ago I saw something about zombies on a news program - not some lame thing, but a respected show - like 60 Minutes or something like that.

They concluded that "mistaken identification of a wandering, mentally ill stranger by bereaved relatives is the most likely explanation" of zombies.

Agreed.

I luv the chupacabra. One of the coolest supernatural beings out there, if you ask me. But the thing is, there is cold hard proof of it existing, via animals with holes in head and blood drained out of them, saliva samples from the animals, and even a corpse.

http://www.rense.com/1.imagesE/chuppp.jpg

DESCRIPTION:

El Chupacabra - Means "the goat sucker" in Spanish.

Named because of the way it sucked all the blood from Puerto Rican goats, the Chupacabra has been leaving fear in its tracks for many years now.

First spotted in Puerto Rico in 1994, the Chupacabra has since migrated off the island and has recently been spotted in many locations including South America as well as the US. Although it was named because of its choice of goat-blood as a meal, the Chupacabra has reportedly attacked and devoured the blood of a wide variety of animals including dogs and sheep. As far as we know, there have yet to be any human fatalities.

Due to the distinct technique the strange animal has of killing its prey, it is very easy to tell if the Chupacabra was involved in an animals death. Animals are found with puncture wounds in their neck and most of their blood removed. Often, the victim's organs have disappeared even though the only wound is a small hole in the animal's neck. Reports of laser-like cuts on the victim's ears are also common.

Although some people say they have seen the Chupacabra's tracks, in many cases there are no signs of blood or tracks around the dead animals.

It is hard to describe the appearance of El Chupacabra because sightings greatly differ. Most say it is either gray or green. Some say it has a large lizard-like tongue, others say it has wings. A bipedal creature (one that stands upright like a human), the Chupacabra has had many sightings where its height was reported to be anywhere from 3 and 6 feet tall. Some say it walks, some say it flies, and some say it has a kangaroo hop.

Like the descriptions of El Chupacabras' appearance, people's ideas of its origin widely vary. Many say it's a new species, or a relative to the panther. More eccentric scholars say it is a dinosaur or an alien. Another theory is that there is a portal to another dimension that stretches from Puerto Rico across to South America. Another theory is that an alien spacecraft contained El Chupacabras' as pets or for study, and they somehow escaped during an accident, or a crash.

ok, I'm done

XD! Oh good lord, this is just one of thoses 'funny' fakes. Its so fake that its funny. Good find, paramiteabe. Very funny. It's just brush strokes in photoshop and some blur.

I quite frankly dismiss all supernatural beings, because I think there is a logical reason for everything. I know you have said this, Loup
Garou, but I just mean, logical logical.

And about that thing where people truely 'die', they are not zombies. They are people who have been pronounced clinically (right word?) dead, and then were not so and are alive again. True zombies have not many (if not, no) brain functions and walk very slowly and breath heavily. These people do not. (Note: Zombies can also survive without limbs/ bodies and eat living flesh. I dont think these activities are on the typical to-do list of the "zombies" who are actually alive.)

:
'Werewolves' suffer from the disease, lycanthropy. This disease makes the sufferer believe they are a wolf and they adopt certain wolf postures and behaviour. They also have the tendancy to grow extra body hair.
Yes, there are werewolves. Very disturbed people who have the mental disease 'lycanthropy'. Not the werwolves you might think, no dog transformation.

And as for Vampires, just thinknig of the teeth, how could they grow longer before/ while they are attacking prey? I dont think there is any sort of chemical that could do such an action.

Aint I just a killjoy?

Didn't Vlad the Impaler file his teeth? Or am I thinking of the Headless Horseman from Sleepy Hollow? Well whatever. The pointy teeth thing may have simply evolved as a logical condition of being a blood-sucking fiend.

SM (ha ha ha, ew) isn't being a killjoy. I find the fact of all this stuff a lot cooler than fiction.

Funny creature, the Chupecabra, or however you spell it.
Means "Goatsucker" and has been seen randomly all over Middle and Latin America. (basically same place but oh well)
And is probably a mutated monkey that ate a vacuum.

Nate, I guess I didn't read the link, eh?

If I remember correctly, the name of the chupacabra is actually La Chupacabras or Las Chupacabras. Literally, "chupacabras" means "it absorbs goats", according to the AltaVista Babelfish online translator. Hee hee hee. It absorbs goats. Well it does, doesn't it?

Personally, I have a great explanation for Las Chupacabras: giant mutant vampire bats. Mm-hmm.
