Old Playground Games are being banned from recess...

Saw this on abcnews.com:

http://abcnews.go.com/sections/us/Da...tag020624.html

What the heck is this country (USA) coming too!? We are becoming overly obsessed with protecting our kids feelings and as a result they are not learning important life lessons. This country is going to become a country of wusses if this so called 'policital correctness' and 'protect the children from every little hurtful thing' continues!
Sure...I had my share of being picked last, bullied, etc, but I am a better person/dragon for it! I know I wouldn't win all the time, that life isn't fair, so on. Such lessons need to be taught at a young age, and the best way to do that is through those games they are banning.
Sure, I got hit with the ball in dodge ball, I justed learned to dodge better...in fact I was one of the best dodgers (though my throwing skills sucked). In fact dodge ball was one of my favorite games...in High School there was a more brutal version where their were many balls being tossed around instead of just one. FUN!
But now some overprotective parents and physcologists want to protect 'little johnny' and little amy' from the 'harsh' lessons that games like those teach us...BAH! How pathitic...is this what the country is coming too? God help us all...

They listed kill the carrier and didn't spell it with k's! Damn them! Also, it is properly called Smear the Queer. And with freeze tag, who ever heard of that go through the legs to unfreeze version. Thats bullshit. You just have to tag someone to unfreeze them. And they didn't even list Murder. That game is pretty cool late at night. I am also surprised that Paintball wasn't mentioned as a corrupting social force among youths.
The best variation on dodgeball is Infinite dodgeball. Teams of two. If you are tagged out by a ball you have to sit down and wait to catch a ball or until your partner saves you by giving you a ball.
What could be more healthy than that. It fosters team work and empathy, and it was always played with very soft balls.
I would like to quote one person, I forget who and he said these immortal words
"Cant we all just get alon...Aw **** it."

This is a list of my thoughts on the 'bad' games:
Dodgeball - stupid game.
Tag - nothing wrong with it.
'Red Rover' - sounds a bit like Brittish Bulldogs - very stupid game.
Crack the whip - sounds stupid but not that bad (Edit: I mean 'not that bad' as in the fact that it doesn't harm the kids much).
Kill the Carrier - and I still can't see the difference bettween it and American Football - both stupid games.

They can't serieously take away tag, can they? What the hell else can little kids do at break? When I was iccle I remember playing tag quite a bit because there was NOTHING to do appart from play games.

I can see their logic: stop children from playing, children become too stupid to want to do anything constructive in their free time (i.e. they don't want to play games), school doesn't have to spend money on balls.

Big, long Edit:
Now here's a good idea I found in the article.
'Adult supervision is key, they say.'

What the **** usually happens in American schools? Do they tell the children to bugger off and play with sand?

It isn't political correctness and it doesn't benefit the children. It is stupidity plain and simple.

Lets see....

Dodgeball - Geebus, I've played that all my life. I've never seen someone get seriously hurt, and anyways they listed ways that can make it safe! Damn hipocrits these days!

Tag - O, my, God. Thats just, I won't say anything...

Red Rover- I think its pretty stupid actualy... I played it once, its just... stupid...

Crack the whip - Sounds stupid also. I don;t see who;d play that anyways.

Kill the Carrier - Actualy, that sounds like fun. Yipee!

Now why didn't they put some real dangerous games there. Teatherball! I've gotten hit upside the head several times... I have a big bruise on my wrist from where it wrapped around at high speed... Four square! I (luckily) have not gotten hurt, but I've seen many of my friends get hit in the balls playing Wallball! Everytime I've seen people play it, someone gets hit in the head. Or the chest. Or balls Capture the flag can also sometimes get bad. The toughest are usualy left last if its a real game, and then people jsut go crazy... Anyways, I see more kids get hurt playing sports anyways, but you don't see them taking all the balls, do you?

That's so stupid, banning games. When I was little me and my friends always played 'Brandy.' That got banned when I was in Grade 5/6. It got banned because someone fell over and got a blood nose. The ball didn't even touch them they just tripped. I think it was that.
It is just stupid to ban them games, the kids will have nothing to do. If they ban them they should ban all kid sports then. Bloody idiots.

Are you sure people play that outside of video games?

Yes, Tom. There actually is a world outside of Halo... although I haven't found it yet. But seriously, people play capture the flag all the time, especially in paintball matches.

In my primary school we used to play a game called 'bulldog'. We all lined up at one side of the playground, 'it was realeased and had to catch us before we got to the other side. Harmless. Then someone fell over and bumped their head and the game was banned.
Ban tag? Ban tag? Oh my god.... Stupid people.

Well, in grade school didn't you guys just have imformal rugby scrums? Like on a soccer field on side is a touchdown and the other is a touchdown,
captains do the XFL fight for the ball and then pick teams. No kicking of the ball is allowed, nor throws longer than fifteen yards.
that's great fun.
