British Woman Marries a Dolphin

(Don't go getting flashbacks to Rexy's "Dolphins as sex symbols" thread just yet. )

I find this rather humorous: A woman in Britian is the first to ever marry a dolphin. Although it had no legal meaning, 41-year-old Sharon Tendler and Cindy, a 35-year-old male dolphin, "tied the net" at Dolphin Reef last week.

She claims she's loved the dolphin for 15 years, "but not in the way you love a man." Sharon and the dolphin have a prenuptial agreement of keeping the marriage open. She may someday marry someone of her own species, and Cindy is allowed to go off and father lots of baby dolphins.

Source (It's fairly short article but has a video.): http://msnbc.msn.com/id/10694972/

I don't really know what to say about it. After reading this article, it doesn't really sound perverted... only strange and silly. Your thoughts and opinions? Random comments? What would you have thought if the marriage had legal bearing?

Bah, who knows. Maybe, just maybe she has a true bond woith this creature. Something like a telepathic human-animal relationship.

Fat chance!

Not trying to sound like a little kid or anything but I don't find that right. I mean if its legal okay ok then but there is no way you would see me marrying an animal. (Like ANIMAL animal not human animal ).

Human animal? O.o

Anyway, I dunno. I don't realy give a damn about marrying someone, it doesn't hold any meaning to me whatsoever. You spend a lot of money for a piece of paper that declares you love someone? I don't need a piece of paper to do that. And I don't need an excuse to throw a party neither. So no, marrying someone will never happen with me.
As for marrying a dolphin, I'm not realy against it. But what has me puzzled is why someone would do it if the relationship stays open and whatnot. Isn't it supposed to be bonding?
I'd say she's doing it for attention as well. I'l believe that she has a very tight bond with the animal, and that she loves it a lot. But marrying it (with TV and news coverage like this) is just being an attention whore.
I have a strong bond with the tigers over at my zoo, you don't see me marrying them do you?

Human animal? Like a Bugs Bunny sorta thing? Or like a therian?

I think this woman is being a little whore, she could've done this quietly, or could've done something spectacular like give a charity [WWF or another animal charity] alot of money. I think this is the same thing as marrying your dog or cat.

I'll believe it when we learn the dolphin dialect and we can understand its pleas of "Oh God no! I do no wish to marry this most vile of wenches!".

I guess there's gonna be a lotta hubbub about LEGALIZE BESTIAL MARRIAGE elsewhere.

Woman marries dolphin...that's completely ridiculous, I mean I understand lovin' animals an' all, I mean, people love their pets right? They're part of the family...but marrying one? Someone tell me is just a giant hoax to get attention...I mean, seriously...marrying a dolphin!? What is the world coming too...

Okay, rant over...

I can't see that you can call this a marriage in any vague definition of the word, seeing as the Dolphin can't consent and say "I do".

Exactly. For all we know the dolphin wishes to kill all humans, and isn't particularly acquianted with this said Sharon.

The more reason to call it a attention whore. Then again, there are cases known of people marrieng their dogs. You can marry your dog in the US, but not the same sex. Someone tell me that isn't stupid...

Anyway, I'm drifting. There are people known for marrieng their dogs all over the place, and that is actualy seen as a life bond. I think I even remember a case where a women got in trouble for 'cheating' on her dog.
Which brings me to another thing. What if you want a deforce... how is a dog ever going to sign the deforce papers. OR, how is a dolphin going to do that?

I don't have any problem with zoophilia, but I don't see the point of engaging in a ritual which means nothing to the dolphin. Pointless waste. If you want a declaration of love, you have to do it through tangible means. Damnit, why isn't dolphinsex.org still up?

Just an idea but maybe she's uber-anti-gay (nice adjective) and is doing that to make a point on "how wrong the idea of gay marriage is" but nobody would go that far.

...Or would they? <_<...>_>

I find that people who're called sharon are usually slightly loopy, and have curly hair, funny teeth, and wear flowery mid-shin length skirts. So it makes perfect sense to me.

And dipstikk is quite right, this person is clearly an attention whore, someone who wants to be famous, and get on TV. Simple as that.

Well, only one party needs to sign the divorce papers in most countries (think about how an abused wife would get out of her marriage).

And Abeguy, if she was making a point about gay marriage it would be pro-gay, not anti as she would be saying "why can I marry a dolphin but not another woman?" But in any case she isn't as this is not a legal marriage but rather just a shallow and pretentious ceremony.

Are you talking about a serious legal marriage? Wierd.

Who says marrying a dog is legal in the U.S.? I'll believe it when the Attorney General knocks on my door and shows me the documentation.

This is pretty funny. I can't see the harm in pointing out something like this to laugh about it. If she did it to garner attention (which she apparently did), she's an idiot. Attention isn't the same as respect. People are going to be pointing at her and calling her the jackass that "married" a dolphin for a long time to come. I know I will.

Follow-up question: state your opinion of this.

I find it rather vulgar, but I find all dogs vulgar. If it were any other creature I might find it awkward but respect their emotional attachments.

Maybe I'm being naïve through trepidation, but your last post suggests some kind of “doing” on top of an emotional attachment. As in making love rather than just being in it. In which case my opinions don't change.

It does raise the question of why you were watching a video of such zoophilia, though.

Hah, this thread's subject is turning to bestiality. Why didn't I see that coming?

Um... I'm not really sure if I believe an animal can have romantic feelings toward humans. That's all I'll say on the matter.
