Just finished playing second time through, of course totally blown away but waiting another three years will be hard (prays for online Oddworld) but to get to the point - is there a missing level or what?

One second your paddling away in Yosemite Valley and the next its snowing, then its not snowing, then at the conclusion snow and no snow spliced together.

Was a level cut because it was problematic, one can imagine Stranger's mother or father, or whoever trained him to be a bounty hunter or that other Steef he knew about? Perhaps an evil steef no one would miss?

I don't know what conclusion splicing your talking about, but as for Yosemite Valley, I noticed it too. I just think it's hard to a transition from desert to snow, so it was a bit abrupt.
Oh well, what can you do?

The part about the grubbz fishing was on the other side of the dam, the snow had yet to hit.

In higher elevations, there tends to be snow even in summer. I believe the river was fed by glacial run off, so the dam would have been in the mountains.

The scene with the grubs fishing took place much further downstream in the praries past the foothills by New Yolk.

maybe that "missing level" was you paddling upstream for a few hours... I can understand them just skipping it.

I don't think he's talking about the ending cutscene. I think he means when you're going up the river, right before the battle of Last Legs, after you have to stop and sink a barge or two and open mini-dams to get through on your boat. I noticed the odd instant-change in the environment, but hadn't considered the possibility of a cut level.

I actually hit a glitch the first time, and the cutscene and level transition didn't work, and I just kept paddling until I reached what looked like a waterfall. Everything behind it was white, so I assumed I was suddenly very high up and I tried to go over. Turns out it was the end of that level [physically]. I fell way way way off the level into this huge white space, and as I was falling if I looked up I could see the bottom of the level way above me. Weird. I just restarted and it went normally the second time.

The River Mongo's source is Ma'Spa, a.k.a. Sekto Springs, I believe. Is there actually any glaciation in the game?

The art of Ma'Spa in TAoOI did not seem particularly snowy to me. This suggests to me that the snow seen in the upper course of the Mongo is climatic or seasonal, and not a year-long phenomenon, but I haven't played the game, so I couldn't comment on specific variations of weather during the game.

And if the dam was at a higher elevation then wouldn't the river have flowed more violently - gravity and all?

Probably the hour long paddling level is the best answer, maybe there were rapids and such? *G*

How the Grubbs moved their catapults with no other boats is another problem?

I remember in the game that there was a glacier during the lost legs level. At least I think it was a glacier. It looked like a white and blue cliff. I assumed it was made out of ice.

I suppose this isn't necessarily true. The map does not actually show the source of the river, so Ma'Spa could actually be a fair way from Sekto Springs. Again, I haven't played the game, but if Ghast's comment, “And if the dam was at a higher elevation then wouldn't the river have flowed more violently - gravity and all?” is accurate, then it seems the Tibetan region of the Mongo is not so near the source.

Incidentally, the velocity of a river's flow in the upper course is related to a generally steeper gradient. Gravity at a higher altitude would be less, although on Earth's surface this would be minimal to the point of being unnoticeable.

Do normal laws of Physics apply to Oddworld ?

No. In fact, Oddwold's theory of relativity is quite separate from ours, which allows for things such as teleportation and the planet being ten times the size but retaining a gravity of ~1G. The same biological and geographical principles apply, though, at least loosely. It's an odd world, not a surreal one.
