Sligs and Dune

I was reading a Dune novel (I forget which one now) and I realised that Frank Herbert had creatures called sligs in his book. Were they the inspiration for a slig or is it just a coincidence?

Sorry, I just realised I put the topic in the wrong section. Could someone move it for me, please?

It's possible. Herbert is one of the most influential writers of all time.

You should. He's brilliant. The first Dune book is all about how politics, religion, philosophy and ecology come togethor to create a peoples mentality. Greatest science fiction book ever written!

Seriously, look up Slig in Google Image Search, and you'll find all sorts of stuff that has nothing to do with what we know of the word. In fact, on Megas XLR, they have a species that looks very much like a slig or Big Bro Slig...

Ok, then. Maybe Lorne Lanning also called it a slig because they look like slugs?
I see what you mean by loking up slig in Google. There's some pretty random stuff in there.

The name ‘slig’ in both Dune and Oddworld comes from a combination of ‘pig’ and ‘slug’. I guess it must be a relatively simple amalgamation to come up with.

=> which is what they said in the AoOW book.

And there's no way of arguing with that.

Dune is probabally one of the most unique Sci-fi/Fantasy stories out there. I mean the movies speaks for its self. But the books are even better. Xav I think you should check out Dune.

But very interesting about the slig none the less. Sligs were based upon slugs. Only on Oddworld they are gunned up slugs in mechanical pants with itchy trigger fingers and room tempature IQ's as we all know and love.

If you go to OW.com you can check out inspirational websites that were used in createing the games.
