Exclamation Stem Cell Treatment

I've just seen on T.v. that docters may be able to cure disabled people and maybe people with parkinsons

Its by using stem cell treatments, they have already cured a woman who had a severed spine and she couldnt move anything below her waste, and now she can walk again

EDIT: They took cells from her nose and put them in her back so that means, the cells from her nose will regenerate and make new spinal cells

Yes. But Religious people are scared that stuff like this is unholy. There is little research into it.

Personally, I think it's a great idea. Surely, a God would want us to use the technology to help us live a happier life and praise him when we get better!

Yeh, i saw this also. Richard and Judy are just a large fountain of untapped knowledge!

I don't see why Religious people period themselves over Stem Cell research. It's so idiotic. Back when chloroform and other pain repressing drugs were just being discovered they did the same then, being all "God wants us to feel pain! Not feeling pain is bad!". Idiots. Religious fanatics are holding us back. I say we cut all ties. Even the expensive ties which cost £100. Yes'ms.

Religious people have no problem with stem-cell treatment per se, rather that the stem cells used in research often come from fetus'.

EDIT: that should be 'embryos' not 'fetus'

My business [Cran-Suicide-Letterz] actually supports Abortion. Because -

"We know - the only good Foetus, is a liquidated one!"

Discuss.

Stem cells from fetus' isn't murder, which is what anti-stem cell activists usually protest.... the fetus is already dead from the abortion... I say let scientists do what they want with undeveloped tissue...

Heh, I was going to make a thread some day soon about stem cell research.
I recommend listening to this song 'The Great Debate' by Dream Theater, as this is what it's about. The lyrics show both sides of the argument, and there are lots of audio clips of people arguing their side.
"Life to save life"

My bad. I meant left-over embryos from IVF.

I've just written an essay about it in the Laws, and the Bible thread so I won't go into detail here, but basically when a couple undergoes IVF they conceive more embryos than are needed in case the first batch doesn't work and the woman fails to get pregnant. If she succeeds and doesn't want any more children the embryos (which are just clumps of cells) are defrosted and thrown away. Researchers want to take these unwanted embryos as they are effectively made up entirely of stem cells. Yet religious groups claim that it is immoral to test on what they claim is a living person, even though the embryos would be thrown out anyway.

so let the scientists be immoral and go to hell... it's their choice...

More importantly, how do you know that the disabled want to have their disabilities 'fixed'? There are a lot whom I'm sure are happy leading the life they currently do, just because we are abled doesn't mean we are any happier.

Yeah, and if they were born disabled they might not know how to walk right and that would take years.

EDIT: Well, maybe not years but it will take quite a while.

I'm sure the doctors won't force the treatment upon anyone who doesn't want it...

Their not allowed to, even if they wanted to. Because if theres a situation where someone has like a tumor the docters cant force them to have it removed

Of course, but it seems like everyone these days treats those who are disabled as under-class citizens. The common opinion I often pick up from people is that they're miserable, and that they are better off living the way abled people do.

But Alcar, if they weren't disabled anymore, they could still do what they were doing before. If someone liked a wheelchair that much, he could continue using. It's just now, if a bomb was going to blow up behind him he could run away[/veryunlikelyscenariousedtogetacrosspoorpoint]
