Gah! Slow Forums! V2.0

I don't know if anyone else has been having problems, I mean, I having been seeing any complaints. But the forums are running EXTREMELY slow and choppy for me. Then again, sometimes the forums go perfectly fast. Quite confusing.

Seriously, using quick reply is next to impossible because of the massive text/appearence delay if the topic has any large amount of posts (like the presidental election topic). Is anyone else expireinceing this, or is it some sort of spastic server load that comes in around this time of night?

Or maybe the server just hates me... Freaking demonic server from hell. I knew I should've watched my karma when I suggested any doings with EZBoard.

Thats a bit odd well not really but anyways, I havent had any problems since the change to the new server. The only time its really slow even for my dsl is when theres multiple pictures in the topic, such as the funny picture thread and the halo 2 thread. Otherwise things have been running quite smooth.

Forums work great for me. Haven't had any problems. I wonder what the problem is for you, Majic?

Only on a couple of occasions have I had a page load slowly. However, on a couple of occasions, I've known the Forums to have temporary disappeared completely - this happened when I was fooling about with the calendar, which, incidently, wouldn't accept my placing Coming-of-Age Day in there.

Every time I've been here everything has been great.

Plus the only thing running off our server space at the moment is the forums. Oddworld-Web hasn't been able to move yet, and Oddworld Universe is still down I think.

And my FF site is far away from here, so there's nothing from that site to interrupt either ... I just got it space on a semi-dedicated server because it's grown out of proportion. So that has now gone through it's second move in 3 months [which I just completed over the weekend, thus the delay in working on the style templates, as I would have blown my bandwidth if I dind't move it when I did].

I guess the only thing I can think of ... which is a disadvantage of using shared space, is that if someone else who's hosted on the same server is doing something wrong ... it can affect others. But if they are, the host would likely pick it up and rectify the problem.

Yay! I got my first problem! Gather round kiddies, and oddguy will tell ye the tale.

This morning I got on zee forums. Everything was going fine...until I replied to a certain thread. All of the sudden, a message popped up that said the database was having problems and that I should try and refresh my page. I did...like 10 times. I left, came back 20 minutes later and OWF finally came back.

I haven't had a smooth running forum page for a while now. I didn't get a chance to check at school though, because I was in a constant state of having to keep up with some stupid Excel exercises. I'll check on Thursday.

My only strang oddity I have noticed is when I clicked on a couple of user profiles, a link to www.art.com popped up. Nothing really that bad, just a bit strange.

Try running a spyware scan, your PC may have been infected, Ad-aware 6.0's a good program to try. *blatent Advertising*

I have HUGE problems with the forums' server... 85% of the time it shows me a "Gateway Timout" error type. And that's the raison why I'm not often in the GD anymore. Can someone tell me what's going on?

Ad-Aware 6.0. Ad-Aware 6.0?!?!?! I totally got that last night, and cleared off 202 things. Go me. And thus, you should do the same Al

And oh yea... forums still fine. Strange. What did I do to please the higher powers, thus making them solve my internet woes?

Xavier, I have no idea... Honestly, things have been working fine on my end, and most others. Confusing...

Although I'm getting loads of emails come into my email box about vBulletin database error. You should be getting them too Peter ... unless your oddworlduniverse email address is down at the moment.

Whoops. I haven't checked my email account (the seperate one for OWU) in yonks. I'll check it now, and see if I can make sense of it all.

EDIT: I haven't got any emails about vBulletin... But that's probably because of the Name Servers issue, and OWU's domain also being way out there, lost in cyber space.

What is really weird is that my email still works perfectly. I still get bucketloads of porn and spam every day. Even though the site is messed to hell.

The forums work fine for me Majic, I suggest that you throw your computer out of a 2 storey window, it should fix it but on the other hand it could possibly break it. Either way you wont have to worry about slow forums any more.

well, seeing this thread hasn't been posted in for about a month, one could assume that nobody is having a slow forum problem anymore (I'm certainly not, and I was at the time), therefore giving a second opinion, I would suggest Majic not to throw his computer out of a high window. If he did such a thing, the computer would be sure to fall to some sort of ground at an astonishing pace, and likely break. Which is bad. Now that they're working and all.

The reason there are some slow times across the server is because we are on a shared server. At times, the server load can be quite high. Such as now, where the load is averaging: 7, 7, 4. Whatever that means, I have no idea. I just know that the normal level is 0, 0, 1.

Not if you were wanted for involuntary manslaughter! I think that's what the charge is called when you stupidly kill someone by accident.

Anyway, I noticed a minor forum problem. When clicking on the "Log Out" button, make sure there's no moving graphic on your screen view. My browser window would freeze up when loging out sometimes. I didn't know what was wrong, but now I finally made the connection. I noticed my browser window only froze up when there was a moving avatar on the screen view as I would click "Log Out." Just thought I would warn you guys. Maybe it's only my comp, but still, I wanted to make sure you guys knew.

Are you on windows? If so, it's because the log out button at the top uses a feature of windows to turn everything grey. Maybe what windows is trying to do, is turn every frame of the animated GIFs into greyscale, which could be quite a task.

Yup! Windows 98. Your explanation does seem logical. I do like the cool grey effect though, so I wouldn't get rid of it. For now on I just go to the main page and log out there. I just brought this up to warn everyone.
