Banner rules: The mistake

After looking at the rules for a banner I discovered something interesting.
This line appears in the Rules dictating a banner in a signature:
"The image size must not exceed 35kb or 35000 bytes"

There are not 1000 bytes to a kilobyte, in fact there are: 2¹⁰ or 1024.
So that means:

35kb = 35840 bytes
35000bytes = 34.18kb

And as you can plainly see:
35kb ‚ 34.18kb
Don't know if you can see that symbol. It means "does not equal"

So, which is the maximum size?
(Well, what I realy want to know who screwed up)

We use the Optus way. Optus is a company in Australia that provides internet access. They work their megabyte downloads in the method 1 MB = 1000 kb, not 1 MB = 1024 kb. Yes it is screwed, but we find that newbies adapt to it easier.

Actually, we really screwed up... Curse you Adder... I'll change it now.

Actually I copied and pasted the signature rules thing from another forum. But I never picked up on it at all.

LOL ... well actually we thought up all the others (or should I say Sydney did at the time), and then I saw that on another forum and thought it was good to impliment as well as we were having a lot of people posting oversized banners at the time.

I always say, if you want the success of another forum, copy that forum. Copy and build on it. Use well founded, tried and tested knowlege, then take it further.

It's called exponential development and it's how the web works. If it works somewhere else, then it would behoove you to use the same technique. It's as simple as you!
