The Main Problem with the internet
Did you know that over 90 percent of the content of speech is not the actual words but the intonation and body languauge. For example, let's look at a sample sentence. "That is a great idea."
Well, not too much meat on them bones is their? But...imagine the person with a big ol' grin on, hands flying about, talking in a near scream and hopping up and down, "That's a GREAT idea!" You percieve it as positive. But the person could be slyly making fun of you. Their is a lot of hidden meaning in that simple statement. The reverse is also true. Now, Mr.X is speaking in a monotone and blah voice, with a touch of sarcasm and some eyball rolling. See what I mean? You think it is bad. You have a lot of stuff to work with. But with the internet, you converse in almost pure text. Sure you can use the oddicons, but it is kind of weird to use 'em. You could say something in jest but a person may take it as an insult or affront. All you meant was a joke, but the person goes all apewire. It is very hard to get intonation across. Which is why you get a lot of problems on the 'net that you might not get in the "physical realm"
