Earthquake in San Luis Obispo County

I just wanted to alert everyone that an Earthquake of 6.5 magnitude just hit the San Luis Obispo County area. Not sure where it exactly hit but I hope everyone at OWI is ok along with their famillys and anyone else that was effected by the quake.

Yes, this was in California. Well I do hope that no one did get seriously hurt.

I live in central California, so I felt it......and like a million aftershocks. The news reported that two people have died from the quake. Fortunately it wasn't bad in my area.

Yeah they have been showing a lot of stuff on the news in the past hour or so.

I saw this on the news. You Califoinians ok mann? That must have been something. Surpriseingly here in the Great Lakes we too get Earth quakes but they are very mild and small and very rare nothing compared to you guys. Infact just last year in my area we had an earth quake that measured like a 2.0. And that was the strongest. So it must be scary to live through something like that. But of course we have our fare share of disasters here with wind and well snow. We get Tornados and Blizzards and many other freaks of nature. Well I guess the clean up now starts. Was there a lot of damage in your area? My prayers go out to those famlies whome lost loved ones.

Yeah, I know what your talking about. We may not get the quakes out here in the midwest, but we get some of the strangest weather that comes through here. It can go from pouring rain one day with lightning and thunder, to snowing, and very cold conditions. Usually in the Late October-Early December, the changes can be that drastic.

Summer thunderstorms with severe thunderstorms, can cause quite a scare still.

Yeah, I used to live in Indiana, so I've lived through some freak thunderstorms...as well as tornados. One time it was raining so hard and blowing so much the rain was going completely sideways. Weird site may I say. Oh, and when I was six I went outside and got an umbrella while it was really windy and I was lifted off the ground! Hehe. Like Mary Poppins.

According to Oddworld Inhabitants, they have their break until February. So I'd say no one was actually hurt from OWI. However, whether or not the building housing OWI was damaged is unknown. Though I doubt it.

Hehe. I know I shouldn't be laughing at a time like this, but I just remember all the times Lorne mentioned where OWI was situated and how it was far away enough to not be hit by an earthquake. Oh, the irony.

But, it is tragic that people died.

Whoa, that's a pretty serious earthquake. It's really bad that people had to die... one day, everyone will be living in earthquake resistant houses.

In Australia, we basically get next to zero earthquakes. However, a couple of weeks ago, we did get a really small one. Just a tremble and it was over. Very rare.

Hehe getting pulled by your Umbrella hehe! Anyway I remember one year Oh I believe it was the summer of 92 during the last week of July when it happened. I was once a Boy Scout and well I was at Summer camp for a week and we were staying in tents and well on the Wednsday of the last week of July it was really hot and steamy during the evening hours the sky the very air around me was omunious almost green in color. I was at a tradeing post buying some candy when I notice across this huge field Pitch black clouds moveing in the horizon moveing quickly towards me. And my troop's camp site was like two fields beyond a small brush of trees. So not only I had run across two feilds, I had to run across three fields to get to my campsite. The wind started to pick up and I knew then I had to get back to the camp site. But like I said we were in tents at the time so it was even more scary. As I started to dash across the three fields the wind started to get stronger and stronger to the point where the trees themselves were blowing sideways. I looked up into the sky before the rain and the clouds were circleing in a funnel like fashion. Right then and there I knew it was a tornado, and that I had no place to go but to my tent that surpriseingly stayed in the ground.

I was pretty much running for safty but I dident know where, I saw my trrop comming towards me. Right now it was pouring rain and extremely windy. The tress were blowing sideways and there was severe lightening and thunder and a tornado. We mainly ran into a small cabin and waited out the storm. I tell ya I can never forget that expierence.

well in the UK we only get heavy rains causing floods and a few tornados in the country side but lately heavy winds up to 80mph

Pay attention - people have been reporting this for at least a month in FS&H.

In the west of East Anglia there seem to be massive floods (by our own petite standards, that is) reported every other year. Stupid morons, that's what they get for buying a house built on a flood plain. I mean, really, isn't that just asking for trouble?

Like building in a place prone to earthquakes, or at the bottom of a snowy mountain. It beats me why people do this. Someone please explain.
