I intend to see it next week, when the movie arrives here in my town. I've only heard about Tolkien's trilogy a couple of years ago, so I'm not a die-hard fan of his books. I finished Lord of the Rings: the Return of the King yesterday (I simply loved it), so I think I'm prepared to see the film.

Besides the production pictures, and images from sets and characters, all I've seen so far, from the movie was its Trailer, and its few seconds of amazing shots and images made me stare in awe, without even blinking my eyes. I just can't wait anymore, but I will for at least another week...

In time, as a newbie fan, I thought that Richard was one of the middle names of Mr. Tolkien, but now I know that his name is John Ronald Reuel Tolkien.

An interesting thought: while reading LOTR, many times something sounded familiar to me, things like names, races, places, many of them I've seen in other books, movies and videogames. I could see that Tolkien's universe has inhabited or influenced almost every fantasy book or movie created since LOTR was published, in the mid-50's decade.

Now, the movie set a new standard to fantasy cinema, as The Matrix did to sci-fi films.

Woo hoo, I JUST got back from seeing it, and let me tell you.. it's mediocre. I mean, it's not the 'movie to end all movies' like alot of people are making it seem like. The action scenes are great, and while a few are VERY corny, most are well written/directed. If you've read the book, you'll know what to expect, but even if you haven't it explains it a little. The acting is pretty well, even though I can't STAND the Hobbit's accents (Blimey!) Besides all that, it's a pretty good movie, but still the best part of the entire time for me at the movie theator was seeing the preview for the new Austin Powers movie.
"Interviewer: Sir? Don't you hate it when people try to do Austin Powers impersonations?
Jay: Yeah baby!
Interviewer: Oh behave!" that was from Clerks: The animated series.. but it was still pretty funny.

Yeah I have seen it I like the killing parts and the graphics were good but the storyline wasn't the best I was exspecting more. I don't think they should have made three though how long does it take to finish a movie the two kids were at the place and then I see directed by why didn't they keep going it would of took 3 days to finish but still. I also thought it went to long.

I just loved that movie. In the matter of fact, it was the only movie I've ever seen that don't make you take your eyes away from the picture for entire three hours. Sometimes funny, sometimes sad, most of the time exciting... It was really cool special effects. Too bad it's a whole year left until the next movie.

Yeah, but a few scenes were horribly corny. For example: That what's-her-face-lady riding on the horse carrying Frodo.. yeash. That was cheeeeeeesey! And those Ring Wraiths had the most annoying screech EVER! It wasn't frightening, it wasn't cool, it was just REALLY loud and REEAAALLY annoying. I kinda disliked how afew things were never really explained; they just kind of appeared, then left really fast. And I didn't say the ending was cheesy (even though the whole Sam thing was), I know it's a trilogy, I've read the books. Never liked 'im, and the movie isn't really changing my mind, but oh well.

I thought the Hobbits' accents were done very well. And I'm English, so I'm allowed to judge... On the other hand, Strider couldn't seem to be able to decide what his accent was... Listening to him speak was like taking a guided tour of the British Isles...

Apart from Strider's accent, my only real complaint was that Kate Blanchett's acting was quite poor, which is a shame, because she is a talented actress, usually...

I've read the book like ten times and "the Hobbit" also and I'm such a huge fan. It's my "summer book".. I read it every summer because then I have the time for it. Coz there aint school or anything.

I didn't really like the idea of a movie because it's such a great book and I thought that a movie would destroy all my images etc.. And it's really annoying that everyone is so interested about the movie and are talking about it everywhere and are so huge fans when they haven't even read the book..

And that annoys me that it's a yankee film..
Well it's done in New Zealand but you know what I mean.. And Elijah Wood as Frodo.. Well after seeing the movie I have to say that he was quite a good pick after all..
Too cute as a hobbit thoug..

I decided not to like the film but I liked it anyway.. It was a good movie. But not really worth al the fuss.. And I still think that the book is much greater experiment. And now I don't like the idea that next time when I'm reading the book I will probably see Frodo looking like Elijah Wood and so on..

I saw it the other night and I thought it was wonderful, although I must admit my expectations of the film were neutral. I find it rare for a movie to actually pull you in as deep as Lord of the Rings did, it felt like a real place with people and creatures experiencing genuine ordeals. The visuals were georgeous, I especially liked Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, she was beautiful.

Since the Star Wars series has been destroyed with some pitiful new additions, Lord of the Rings fills a place in movies that has been vacant since the Phantom Menace.

I give The Fellowship of the Ring 9.5 out of 10.

Hobbits are also refered to as Halfings in the book, just so you know.
I agree the movie seemed to 'rush through', but remember they had to take out some events and scenes in the book in order to ensure the movie was a decent length. (they took out the whole bit with Tom Bomadal and the selling of Bags End).
I didn't like how they took out that one elf dude (I don't remember the name) and replaced him with Arwen. In the book she was never on a horse...never left Riverdale in fact (from what I have read so far that is). Another bit they changed: The broken sword was on Strider in the book, where it was in Riverdale the whole time in the movie.
ACK! I am nicpicking! Stop it! *slaps herself*
ow...thats better. Anyway...my favorite character has to be the dwarf (sorry don't remember his name either...*sigh* I am only at the council part of the book...)

Edit: one more little thing...I read in an article that to read the book outloud would take you 40 hrs...yikes...

The Dwarf Dude was Gimli, son of Gloin [which, I was annoyed to discover, was pronounced 'Gloyn' in the film, whereas I think it should be pronounced 'Glow-in'], and was played by John Rhys-Davis, I think. His name had a Rhys in the middle, anyway.

I had a set of audio tapes of the Lord of the Rings, and it filled 11 cassettes, both sides... So that's 16 1/2 hours... But then they weren't reading the story aloud on those tapes, they were acting it out, so i guess it wouldn't be as long, even though they didn't cut any out...

Another part I wish they hadn't taken out. The part where Frodo was in the river facing the Ringwraiths.

Frodo: "Go back!Go back to the Land of Mordor, and follow me no more!"
Ringwraiths: *laughing* "Come back! Come back! To Mordor we will take you!"

I don't know why...but I really liked those lines...*grin*

Gandalf didn't die. He'll come back as Gandalf the White.

I think it's really cool that J.R.R. Tolkien took influencies to the Lord of the Rings from the Icelandic sagas and from "Kalevala" wich is the national epic of Finland.

And he studied many languages wich includes Finnish. And qenya the language of the elves is based on Finnish.
J.R.R.T. on Finnish: "It was like finding a basement full of this wine, wich you had never tasted before and wich was amazing by it's quality and taste. I got drunk from it."

By the way.. did you know that while writing the book Frodo's name was for a long time Bingo Baggins.. Thank god he changed the name..

I have only one MAJOR complaint about the movie over the book. I couldn't STAND watching Arwen save Frodo! Why Arwen? But, otherwise, it was good. With Frodo's single tear rolling down his porcelain face. I especially liked the Uruk Hai, and the scenes with Saruman, but that's another story.

I saw it yesterday!! It was one of the most enjoyable movie experieces I've had in a long time. The Prologue was fantastic, the armies, Elrond in the frontline, and specialy Sauron were all made so well. I loved how they made us really frightened by the One Ring. I think it should deserve an acting nomination itself I think Liv Tyler did a very good job. I didn't bother seeing her character more than in the book, because she is simply gorgeous.

The film is not mediocre, it was a huge achievement, and I intend to see it at least another couple of times in the next weeks.

9.9 out of 10.
