Oddbox News

Via certain secret sources and with the assistance of a sect of devout, mute monks, I have managed to get some information about Oddbox from Lorne himself.

Here's the insider scoop. It's taken us longer than expected to bring these to market. Basically just production snafus.

We have Munch near finished (in final gold now) and we're still working on Stranger. Stranger has proven much more difficult as we really pushed some rendering aspects on the Xbox and bringing that over to DirectX is a bit of voodoo. So it's taken far longer than expected to convert Stranger than we had initially anticipated. We're still aiming for 2010 but do not have a set month for release.

We are working diligently on getting this done and making sure its all quality conversions. 3 down. 1 to go. Must happen in 2010.

We're also building in the Steam Achievements for the games (all four of them), so Steam players will get the added advantage as it relates to their larger network achievements. We wish we had done this upon initial release of the Abe games on Steam, but will fix going forward.

He didn't say anything about better graphics. Just about getting the existing graphics to work.


I hope they fix the shadow bug in Stranger. And the one where bushes suddenly appear out of nowhere in the distance.

I hope it comes out in April. Or even still March...at least we know they're still working on it, and have made a lot of progress. I don't know whether to be disappointed it's not done already, or happy it's still coming out.

Has he ever mentioned who's behind the porting? I'm interested in knowing whether they actually have a team of their own working on games atm, or if all their projects are outsourced to third party devs.

Hooray - You know, this the main reason why I've been checking OWF for the past couple of days despite not checking this place since the end of last year - I'd hoped to of found news about this. :P Timing is everything, huh?

Awesome news, thanks for sharing it with us - Glad OWI aren't being silent.

(And BTW - The Acheivements thing may make it worth me buying AO and AE on Steam even though I already own old PC CD ROM copies of both)

Yey! Oddworld Achievements! That would give me a reason to complete AO and AE again and buy them through Steam!

Oddworld GMod? That would be amazing! The current GMod is incredible as it is, with Oddworld stuff it would be even better!

When I heard about Oddbox, I thought of Gmod aswell. Is it possible to copy or rip the models from SW and MO if they were released for the PC? Or possibly the AIs themselves?
