I have an idea!

I have an idea! Why not ask Oddworld Inhabitants to release the source code for the A.L.I.V.E engine. Surely, it would help with the fan-games and hey, its an old engine.

As long as they still have it in their system of course.

Also, I'm sure they'd need to spend a large amount of time and effort cleaning up the code and getting it in an understandable form for the outside developers. And seeing as they no longer have any programmers on staff, I don't see that it's very likely to happen.

They're outsourcing development of Wage Wars. What's more, the technology would be completely different, so a programmer who was working on WW would not have any experience with the AE codebase.

Another way to look at it is like this: They would need to pay someone to do this. I really don't think anyone will pay to use the engine, so they would need to consider it as a promotional tool if they wanted to release it for free. And I don't think it would be a popular enough thing to really get people talking about AO and AE again.

The ALIVE engine is probably really restrictive or difficult to use. Hence the annoying bugs and glitches, plus the lack of motivation for making Sligstorm.

I don't really think that anyone here could make as great graphics as there are in AO/AE, and those were a big part of the games' feel. I don't think neither that the old graphics would be given for free, because they are a sort of art. Of course you could rip them, like you have already done, but I don't believe that's legal...

Oddworld Inhabitants said to me that there assets from AO and AE were deeply buried in there archives and were not available for me to use.

Also the ALIVE engine would be of not use to me or any one else unless there were using the same program as OWI did. The Syntax is different in every programming language.

Thanks SpAM_CAN, if there are any improvements just post them on the game thread.

I know what you mean about Abe's Proddigy, it's just the name of the game, and it sounds good. I know it doesn't really make sense.

OWI should stop all this artsy-fartsy crap and start making proper oddworld games again. Stranger was great, but Munch... Would be if you could talk properly during possession... and the health system... and the retarded spin jump...

Lets face it, Stranger zapping Sligs would be awexome.

Even if you had a 3D studio, I doubt anyone can remake an AO or AE game to the same standard. I think even OWI would have trouble with it.

There is Oddworld for Gameboy Advance isn't there? DS is backward compatible.
