Oddworld RE: Horne & Corden - Pulled sketch

>> In the first episode of Horne & Corden, there was a sketch featuring two characters called Jonny and Lee Miller, a pair of West Country magicians whose dance routines are better than their magic. In the sketch, they try and "Magic away" gun crime. However, the sketch was pulled from three repeats and was edited out of the edition on the BBC iPlayer because of the Winnenden school shooting, which occured the day after the show was first broadcast. The BBC said in a statement: "Following the tragic events in Winnenden on Wednesday, a decision was taken to remove the final scene of episode one of Horne & Corden for all repeats, including iPlayer.

Personally, I did find the sketch reasonably funny. However the issue of Knife/Gun Crime is still a hot topic in England. I can't blame them for removing the clip from circulation. What do you think?

If it wasn't directly linked then I think it's a bit strange because it isn't like they are making a statement about the shootings...

Was it before or after the shooting?

No matter how weak the sketch was, there was no reason to remove it. It doesn't sound like it's making fun of anything, and it definitely wasn't directly aimed at that. That's like refusing to play a film like Airport because of the 911 incident.

I completely agree - next they're going to stop anything based in a building because someone stubbed their toe on their desk.

I refuse to watch Strawberry Shortcake due to the great strawberry famine of '01. It just brings up too many bad memories. We had nothing to dip in chocolate and rub on each others' nipples. Fucking nothing.

Yeah, it's stupid. And worse, it's censorship. As much as people talk about how great the BBC is, I have been seeing report after report of them pulling shit. And then I see reports of your Prime Minister actually commenting on media snafus, saying that people should apologize for jokes that they made. Priorities, people. Priorities.

Something like that happened to Transformers: RID when it aired. A ton of episodes weren't played because they featured buildings exploding and bombs right after Sept. 11.

A lot of Metal Gear Solid 2 had to be changed for the same reason.
Censorship is a hot topic, but I say that the BBC does a good job of censorship at the moment. They have to make sure to set a standard for others to follow.

Totally agreed.

David Hayter has the easiest voice acting job in the world. All he has to do is repeat every single word back to the person who said it to him;

"Metal Gear", "Liquid", "Ocelot", "Otacon"...

He probably only has to say it once, and then they just repeat it
BTW Metal Gear made no sense to begin with

I would just like to contribute to this thread by stating that Metal Gear Solid is the greatest game series ever.

Censorship and inhibition of free speech has been steadily growing in the UK over the last few years.

The sketch shouldnt have been pulled. It wasnt that funny but shouldnt have been pulled. Not surprising that it was though with the other stuff that gets censored/attacked by the media and bloody Ofcom.

The whole Ross/Brand thing did go a bit over the top... but we need a certain amount of censorship in all media coverage... The whole Manhunt 2 thing just blew way out of proportions... It's not even that good of a game either.

I'm glad Ofcom exist because then they can take crappy adverts off the television
