The games take place at pretty much the same time. The species are different because the games take place in different places.

right i see what you mean..but what about rapture farms there was no advertisement for them and the such and the grubbs look similar to mudokons so why not the possibilty of evolution ? thas why i thought of making the thread to see what you guys thought....

Assuming natural law still applies on Oddworld, and judging by the sheer amount of devouring I'd have to say it does, then yes, everything has common descent. How? That's like solving a thousand piece puzzle when you only have two of the pieces, and they don't even fit together.

You guys have to realise that OddWorld is fictional place. Nothing happened unless Oddworld Inhabbitants said so.

All though arcording to the art book Glukkons, glocktigi and ocktigi are all related.

Mudokons evolved from birds (You want INSIDE info? How’s this…, question 25). Grubbs evolved from fish (Grubbs Profile, GameSpot).

Of course. But I hesitate to hazard any estimates ass to how they are related on Oddworld. Peculiar morphologies.

i was also wondering like the time gaps and regions the series goes through ? like are muddokons just a northern version of their southern bretheren the grubbs ( though technaicaly muds came from birds and grubbs from fish )

Emphatically no. Apart from belonging to completely different taxonomical classes and having entirely different morphologies, the reproductive model of mudokons is akin to that of termites, whereas all healthy, normal grubbs can reproduce and have apparently equal gender populations.

Ahhhh, people taking the evolutionary process of fictional creatures seriously! Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!

Edit: That being said, I did once create this thread.

No! We refuse!! (Snarl)

If anything, you could say that all the species on Oddworld are vertebrates (well, except for Octigi). Of course, here I am assuming that Octigi are made of all cartilage like octopus, but maybe they do have the beginning of a vertebrate, it just isn't as developed as that of the Glukkons. Comes from living a primitive life aquatic, I guess.

Octopuses aren't made of cartilage. And Oktigi could well be vertebrates. Certainly most of the "insects" seem to be.

That’s like looking at a small proportion of Earth’s faunal species and concluding that all creatures are vertebrates. Certainly all the larger Oddworld creatures seem to be supported by bones, but that’s generally a necessity for being large in the first place. There’s no evidence that Slurg‐ or bee‐scale critters are quite so boney.

Sorry! At the time I was typing, I was thinking of all of the more familiar species and completely forgot about all of the insects and Slurgs. In any case, I was just trying to say that if anything, many of the species on Oddworld are connected by their probable common ancestor of first vertebrate on their planet.

And sorry about assuming that octopuses are made of cartilage. I've just recently learned that their arms are muscular hydrostats and that the creatures themselves are made mainly of muscle. Thanks for pointing out my mistake.

I don't remember all that leather and knifery though. Why do creatures without hands have throwing knives anyway?

They do have all that stuff. You won't be surprised to hear that I spent a considerable time performing both observations of the living specimen from afar, and attempting autopsies.

I suppose it's to make the huge, savage, squid-like monster look intimidating by dressing it as a ninja.

I assumed the knives cause damage as the Gloktigi spins.

You'd think so, but they are not mounted in such a way to make it worthwhile, unless there's something special about those hilts.

The glocktigi spins on one leg anyway. The other leg seems to be responsible for all the damage.

Either evolving from the other would mean there is a temporal discontinuity, we didn't evolve from the modern ape after all.
